Poland is a country in the Central Europe.
In Poland live 38.2 million people.
The total area of Poland is 312,679 square kilometres (making it the 69th largest country in the world and the 9th largest in Europe.
The capital of Poland is Warsaw.

THE SYSTEM OF EDUCATION IN POLAND Polish education system includes pre-
school institutions, primary schools, gymnasia and post-gymnasium schools.
A child at the age of 3 to 5 may receive pre-school education, which is not compulsory, but all six year-old children attend either kindergartens or pre-school classes organized in primary schools
In 2013 pre-school classes are going to be obligatory for children at the age of six
Pre-school education The main aim of pre-school education is:
• to support children in the development of their talents and skills needed to cope with everyday life and further education
• to build a system of values (e.g. recognizing what is good and what is wrong)
• to build emotional resistance,
• to development social skills and shape the sense of belonging in a community and family.
• to create conditions for playing and learning for children with different physical and intellectual abilities in one group,
• to care for children’s health and their physical development.

Distribution of responsibilities The Ministry of National Education is responsible
for nearly the whole system of education, with the exception of higher education which is under the supervision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education.
Only the national educational policy will be developed and carried out centrally, while the administration of pre-schools and other educational establishments are decentralised. The responsibility for the administration of public kindergartens has been delegated to local authorities.
Financing schools As from 1999 all educational tasks are financed
from the State Budget.
The territorial self-government unit is responsible for the design of the budget (i.e. a plan of expenditure) for all schools and educational institutions in its area.
