Protective Barriersfor Concrete and SteelManufacturers define coatings and linings in several ways. At Sauereisen,we offer protective monolithic barriers of many thicknesses.Thin-film coatings are classified in 10 to 20 mil thickness ranges.Theseare specified as additional topcoats or stand alone barriers. Trowel orsprayed polymer linings range inthickness from 30 mils to 1/4 inch.Within this family of linings we offer a multitude of options.

Fiber-ReinforcedLiningsThis category of linings includesfibers that are encapsulated in chemical-resistant resins to providereinforcement and flexibility.Sauereisen FibreCrete epoxy andFibreLine vinyl ester linings exhibitoutstanding durability and extremelylow permeance. At a thickness of 40 mils, these systems are proven tolimit permeability to thresholds lower than 0.0008 perm-inches… and that’s without adding one of several optional topcoats.

Another major advantage afforded by fiber-reinforced technology is theinstallation method. These systemsare spray-applied. Production ratesgreatly outpace the alternative glassmat reinforced linings that require alabor intensive, multi-step process.Consider the impact of this on facility downtime and cost.

Extending Fiber-Filled Polymersto Several Industries

Sauereisen’s alternative for the Pulp & Paper industry is theFast-Trak series. These liningsprovide a means of restoringcompromised tile chests in away that requires minimalrepointing of mortar joints. Vinylester or novolac epoxy variationsof Fast-Trak are sprayed directlyover the tile substrate. Knowingthat tiles are supplied with onlya thin glaze to resist aggressivewood pulp liquors, a Fast-Trakapplication improves the entirestructure.

The Municipal Wastewater market is another area where the resin/fiber technology offersutility. Sauereisen SewerGard isan epoxy polymer specifically

formulated to resist the corrosiveenvironment originating frommicrobiological sources. Thesprayable version of SewerGardis fiber-reinforced and commonlyapplied at a 60 mil thickness.It is most appropriate for protecting structures at the treatment facilities.

Variations of SewerGard appliedby trowel or spincast equipmentcontain traditional fillers and aremore suitable for less accessibleareas like manholes, wet wellsand lift stations. SewerGard is one of only a few products to have passed the study conducted by the City of Los Angeles simulating the corrosion environment.

Applications of these linings arediverse. Holding tanks for processfluids and ducts subject to corrosiveflue gas are ideal structures for theseproducts. In general, the need forabrasion resistance while allowingfor structural movement can add tothis challenging environment.

Primary and secondary containmentalso benefit from low-perm, fiber-reinforced linings. Whether condi-tions involve immersion or simplyincidental spills, the ramifications offailure dictate selection of only thehighest quality materials.

Scrubber modules are ideal structures forfiber-reinforced linings.

Sauereisen has formulated innovative elastomeric compounds forniche lining applications. Fib-R-Thane is an asphalt-modified ure-thane material that may be specified as a membrane beneath otherproducts or as a stand-alone lining. Its uses are broad, consideringthe product’s ability to maintain nearly 100% recovery to mechanicalstress while tolerating temperature swings from –30°F to 300°F.Specifiers of Fib-R-Thane should think versatility. This membrane/lining may be applied to concrete, steel, brick, or block by trowel or spray to resist acids, alkalis, salts, and solvents. It is used placespreviously reserved for rubber linings.

For Those with a "Bend butDon’t Break" Mentality

Sauereisen linings are specified for floors where a paint is simplyinsufficient and a troweled top-ping is considered excessive. Weoffer a "happy medium" in theform of polymers applied bypour-and-spread methods.

ConoGlaze SL is a self-levelingepoxy that can be applied bymost applicators familiar withfundamental surface preparationtechniques. As far as the floor-ing installation goes, it’s easy andfast. This system typically uses a broadcast of sand to build preferred thickness and skid-resistance.

A better choice in physical dura-bility is ConoSpread. The majordifference is that ConoSpread isa heavier slurry distributed usinga screed rake. The viscosity and thickness of ConoSpread iscustomized by project allowingfor the convenience of bulkpackaging. This also minimizescost for large areas.

Linings For Floors

The DifferenceBegins withQuality ResinsNot all resins are created equal,especially when it comes to chemical resistance. The one-size-fits-all concept doesn't work withlinings. At Sauereisen, we employ a variety of chemistries. Sauereisenuses only the highest grade resins.We offer two primary Bisphenol AEpoxy formulations, differentiatedas general purpose or chemicaland food grade.

Where a novolac epoxy isrequired, our Epoxy NovolaK is a thoroughbred, not a watered-down hybrid. And for higher temperature or strong oxidizingenvironments, Sauereisen vinylester linings meet temperaturechallenges as high as 250°F.We commonly modify our coreformulations and pursue new tech-nologies to assure an exact "fit."

Reinforced toAssure LowPermeabilitySauereisen doesn't compromisethe effectiveness of the high-quality resins in its linings by overloading them with sub-standard aggregates. Rather, wereinforce them with proprietaryfibers, glass flakes and/or fine-grain powders. This permits the permeability of our lining prod-ucts to be extraordinarily low.And after all, that's the most basic requirement of a lining.
