Purpose of water purifier

"BARRIER PROFI Osmo" water purifier is designed for fine after-purification of potable tap water from most of contained harmful substances. Reverse osmosis membrane is main element of water purifier and purifies a water from impurities on molecular level, passing water under pressure via impalpable pores. The water stream flows along membrane surface with high-velocity during filtering process, washing out soiling into drainage to prevent occluding of pores by impurity. Three levels of primary purification installed inside the water purifier to extend a lifetime of reverse osmosis membrane. The activated carbon of the 5th purification level is for additional guarantee of perfect purity and taste of obtained drinking water.

A high pressure of water on inlet of the purifier is required to overpass of hydraulic resistance of membrane. A booster pump

Attention!Despite the fact that reverse osmosis membrane is capable to capture bacteria and viruses, there is no decontamination or disinfection process during purifying of raw water. in order to avoid a bio-fouling of prior-purifying filter cartridges, do not use the water purifier to purify microbiologically unsafe water.

configuration "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" is provided for working of water purifier within low water pressure in water-supply system.

Stabile and effective purifying from hard-to-remove impurities such as nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, fluorine and hardness salts in domestic conditions is only possible with using of reverse osmosis membrane.

Attention!All works on water purifier in "BArrier osmo Boost" configuration must be realized only when electrical power is off. to avoid electric shock, do not allow water or other conductive liquid directly on electrical wiring, terminals and AC adapter. in case of contact unplug AC adapter from power supply and remove all water. Plug and turn on power supply only after ensuring the terminal surfaces are dry.Avoid contact of children and people with disabilities with electrical components during operation of the water purifier.

General requirements for raw water

Attention!Water purifier is for after-purification of potable tap water from centralized water supply systems. if install the water purifier out of centralized water supply systems (e.g. country houses, cottages) we recommend previously make an analysis of raw water.

1st LeveL – BArrier ProFi sediment 5 µm − filter element is sputtered from polypropylene alimentary grade. Mechanical removal of suspended solids (sand, scale etc.) larger than 5 µm.

2nd LeveL − BArrier ProFi sorbtion − sorption purification of chlorine, organic and organochlorine contaminants by coconut granulated carbon. Owning to its branched surface, the granulated carbon has high efficiency and long operating life of purification.

3rd LeveL − BArrier ProFi sediment 1 µm − filter element is sputtered from polypropylene alimentary grade. The last level of pre-filtering prior to reverse osmosis membrane: fine mechanical purifying of fine suspended solids with particles size of more than 1 µm.

4th LeveL − BArrier ProFi osmo −is general element of purifying, the reverse osmosis membrane removes almost all organic pollutants, hardness salts, ions of heavy and toxic metals. Thin film composite polyamide pore diameter of 0.0001 µm is a material that membrane made of. Pores diameter is so small that they can pass water molecules only, and any impurities are washed off to drainage. For comparison, the diameter of pore in membrane is up to 200 times smaller than virus’s size, and 4000 times smaller than bacteria.

Attention!All works performing on water supply system must be performed by qualified technician. in case of self-supporting connection works it is necessary to be familiar with actual rules and follow them. it is recommended to perform work associated with connecting to water supply system, joining of tubes, fittings installation and replacement of filter elements by clean hands wearing thin rubber gloves.

Before installation works please read this manual and familiarize with water purifier connection diagram, and check completeness. Previously define an installation place of water purifier, reservoir and pure water faucet to provide daily using of it and possibility to replace cartridges.

Attention!Before you start to install the water purifier close the cold water close valve, and then open the cold water faucet on mixer to relieve water pressure in pipe.

1. Working With quick disconnect fittings.

All connections in the water purifier and its components are made using quick disconnect fittings and plastic tubes. Quick disconnect fitting consists of three major parts: housing, collet, sealing ring.To connect a plastic tube to fitting it is enough to insert a tube on fitting with distance 15-17 mm.To remove a tube from fitting it is necessary to press a collet to fitting housing by thumb and forefingers of left hand. Then, holding a collet, pull a tube by right hand.

As a rule, it is not required to make a significant effort. If the tube does not come out of fitting, do not attempt to remove tube, making great efforts. This will cause to breakage of fitting and / or rupture of tube. Consult with hotline BARRIER specialists.

2. instAllAtion of reverse osmosis membrAne.

Disconnect a tube from inlet fitting of membrane housing cover.Turn out membrane housing cover by plastic wrench.Release the membrane from packaging and insert it into the housing and push until it stops.Screw the cover on the housing.Insert tube into inlet fitting of membrane housing cover.

3. instAllAtion of pure WAter fAucet.

Choose a location for installation of faucet so that there were easy to use it, and there is sufficient space under sink for mounting and connecting the faucet. Drill a 12 mm diameter hole. Install the faucet as shown in figure. Tighten the nut.

Screw the straight fitting by hand. Install one end of the WHITE plastic tube into fitting.

4. connecting to WAter supply system.

Ensure that cold water close valve on apartment’s entrance is closed. Disconnect a water tube of kitchen faucet from cold water pipe. Screw nut of ball valve on water pipe.

Fix the ball valve in most comfortable position for joining of plastic tube and closing of valve. Tighten the nut until the ball valve cannot be rotated around pipe axis. Screw the water tube on the ball valve.

Remove the nut for a plastic tube from the faucet. Put the nut on the BLUE plastic tube. Firmly pull the plastic tube to the ball valve and tighten the nut.

5. drAin clAmp instAllAtion.

Drill a hole of 8 mm diameter in drain pipe.Check seals on inner side of the drain clamp bracket.

Secure the bracket with a seal so that the hole in the drain pipe matches with the drain clamp hole.

Install the second bracket and tighten fixing bolts evenly so that the two brackets are parallel to each other. Install one end of the BLACK plastic tube into the fitting of drain clamp.

Follow the Rules of safe use of electrical appliances (for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration).Water Purifier can be installed on a flat surface or mount on the wall with screws*. Note that the water purifier, reservoir and connecting tubes are not in contact with hot pipes.

6. instAlling the fAucet of reservoir.

Remove protective plastic cap from the thread on top of the reservoir.Wrap the threads 2-3 times by sealing PTFE tape (or other sealing material).Screw the faucet of reservoir by hand until it stops. Gently pull by wrench. Do not apply excessive force to avoid damaging the faucet. Install one end of the RED plastic tube into the fitting of faucet of reservoir.

7. instAllAtion of the WAter purifier And reservoir.

Install the water purifier and the reservoir in such a way that they do not block access to the ball valve and other communications, while providing opportunity to inspection, removing the filter for cartridges replacing. Route the connecting tubes from the ball valve, pure water faucet, drain clamp and the reservoir to the water purifier with no kinks, strong tension and contact with heating pipes and hot water pipes.

If necessary, cut off excess plastic tubing carefully by construction knife. Shear must be perpendicular to tube, with no jams and burrs. Insert free end of the BLUE plastic tube into inlet fitting of the water purifier. Insert free end of the RED plastic tube into tee-fitting on entrance of the 5th level of purifying.

If you have a plug in tee-fitting, remove it before handling. Insert free end of the BLACK plastic tube into flow restrictor fitting of water purifier. Insert free end of the WHITE plastic tube into fitting on output of the 5th level of purifying. If you have a plug in tee-fitting, remove it before handling.

to install the water purifier to install the water purifier

Attention!Pipe section, which the drain tube is connected, should not be filled with water. therefore, it is necessary to install the drain clamp on the vertical part of drain pipe before a siphon. if installation before a siphon is not possible, contact the specialist to rework a drain system.

Attention!service air valve is placed on bottom of reservoir. Do not use it if the reservoir is in order and without consultation with a specialist.

Attention!Using of electrical extension cords in space below sink is strictly prohibited and may result a short circuit and fire.

Attention!Do not use water for drinking, which was obtained by first two filling of the reservoir; because of there was a flushing of system from preservatives. During first week of operation, check on a daily basis water purifier for leaks. As necessary, tighten connection. in the first few weeks of water purifier operation may appears small air bubbles. it is absolutely safe and is not a malfunction of the filter.

Attention!it is necessary to disconnect the AC adapter from electrical outlet before replacing of any filter elements for water purifiers of "BArrier ProFi osmo Boost" configuration.

Low voltage booster pump uses to increase water pressure in the water purifier, complying with directives on electromagnetic safety of European Union.AC adapter with 1.5 m connecting cable is used for power supply.

If cable length is not enough for connecting to existing standard outlet, it is necessary to call an electrician for the installation of additional outlet in compliance with the requirements for electrical safety.

9. checking And stArt of operAtion of WAter purifier.

Open the pure water faucet.Close the faucet of reservoir.Open the cold water valve on entrance to apartment.Switch on the power booster pump for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration.

Apply water to the water purifier; open the ball valve on the water pipe.Wait a few minutes until via pure water faucet starts to flow water, air will come out from pure water faucet at this time.

since the faucet of reservoir is closed, water flow rate will low at this stage. this action is necessary to flush the system.

- For a complete displacement of air from the water purifier allow it to run for 5-10 minutes.- Close pure water faucet.- If the water purifier properly connected and adequate water pressure on its inlet, a water flow to drainage will stopped few minutes later.- The booster pump will automatically switches off for "BArrier ProFi osmo Boost" configuration.

- Allow the water purifier under pressure for 10-15 minutes, ensure there are no leakages in system, and gently tighten leaking connections if necessary.- Open the faucet of reservoir.- Once the reservoir will fully fill (water flow will stop to drain / booster pump will stop), open the pure water faucet and drain off all the water.- Re-fill and empty the reservoir.

Replacement cartridge pack life is designed based on testing in various model solutions and matched so that was provided irreproachable quality purified water during whole lifetime. However, quality of raw water (insoluble particles pollution, concentration of inorganic and organic harmful impurities, hardness of water, etc.) in different regions can be varied within wide limits.Pre-cleaning levels filters are carrying the maximum load. If you have a high content of mechanical impurities and insoluble compounds of iron in water, pre-cleaner filter elements are intensively polluted.

Lifetime and performance of reverse osmosis membrane is significantly reduces at higher hardness of raw water (more than 7 mg-Eq / L) and iron concentration over 3 MAC.The main characteristic that is determined the need to replace filter elements, is reducing of water purifier performance (reservoir cannot to fill or not completely filled, filling time is increased).To determine the recommended frequency of filter elements replacement, use the table below.

Replacement intervals are listed in table on basis of average daily water consumption (15 liters) and quality of raw water complying with parameters in "BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR RAW WATER". If

performance will be worse, it is recommended to replace filter elements more often.

1. replAcing of filter elements of pre-purifying.

Close the ball valve on inlet of water purifier.Disconnect power supply of the booster pump for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration.Close the faucet of reservoir.Open the pure water faucet to relieve pressure, then close the faucet.Follow actions for replacing of each level sequentially, ensuring not to mix flasks.Remove the flask of pre-cleaning level by plastic wrench. Remove used filter element.

Clean inside surface of the flask running hot water. If necessary, use a brush and detergent for dishes, then be sure to thoroughly rinse off any soap solution. Inspect inside surface of the flask cover, wipe with a damp clean cloth, repeat this procedure if necessary. Free new filter element from its packaging and place in the appropriate level flask.

replacing of filter elements

Attention!the filter element must be installed vertically with no sags. the filter element "BArrier sorbtion" has a pointer of water purification direction, being properly installed indicates on flask cover.

Attention!Angular fitting on membrane cover is fixed in position, convenient for installation, with correct position of the membrane housing (output fittings directional down). Do not turn the angular fitting unnecessarily, it may result of loss of seal compound.

Carefully screw the flask into cover by hand until it stops and tighten by wrench. When properly tightened, stickers on flask will be placed on middle with respect to front side of the water purifier.If necessary, repeat the above described steps with other pre-purifying levels.Remove the plastic tube from the corner fitting of 3rd level of pre-purifying.The fitting placed on rear side of the bracket for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration.Turn down the angular fitting. Set a vessel for 4 - 5 liters below fitting closely to the flask. Slowly open the valve on inlet of water purifier for

about one-third turn and wash the new filter elements by 3 - 4 liters of water. Close the valve, return angular fitting to its original position and insert a plastic tube.Open the pure water faucet and the ball valve on entrance of water purifier. Switch on power supply of the booster pump for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration.Wait a few minutes until the pure water faucet begins to flow water. After 2-3 minutes, close the pure water faucet. Ensure there are no leaks in the water purifier, tighten the connections if necessary.Open the faucet of reservoir.

2. replAcing of reverse osmosis membrAne.

Close the ball valve on inlet of the water purifier.Switch off power supply of the booster pump for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration.Close the faucet of reservoir.Open the pure water faucet to relieve a water pressure, then close the faucet.Remove the tube from inlet fitting of.Remove the membrane cover by plastic wrench.

Holding the diaphragm housing with one hand, remove used membrane by second hand, using round pliers or tight pliers.Note direction of installation of the membrane.Extract the new membrane from its packaging and insert it into housing and push until it stops, holding a housing of displacement.Screw the cover on housing and gently tighten by wrench until inlet fitting on the cover has returns to its original position.Insert the plastic tube into the fitting of membrane housing cover.

Attention!it is recommended to carry out additional flushing of water purifier in same time with replacing of filter elements with filling and discharging reservoir once time for it.

Additional maintenance of water purifier

Open the pure water faucet and the ball valve on entrance to the water purifier.Switch on power supply of the booster pump for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration.Wait a few minutes until the pure water faucet starts to leak water.

Wash the membrane for 15 minutes and then close the pure water faucet. Ensure there are no leaks in the water purifier, tighten the connections if necessary.Open the faucet of reservoir.

Attention!Do not store filter elements at low temperatures at any time. storing of filter elements in refrigerator is not recommended longer than 1 month. storage time in refrigerator is taken into account in calculating of replacement intervals and operating life of filter elements. Do not store filter elements close to odorous substances. it is strictly forbidden to store filter elements close to toxic substances.

3. replAcing of bArrier osmo postfilter filter element.

Attention!Before you install the water purifier using out of centralized potable water supply systems (cottage villages, country houses, etc.) we strongly recommend to make analysis of water, and call technical support for advice.

Attention!Close the ball valve on inlet of water purifier before breaks in work more than 3-5 days. it is necessary to wash out the filter before using. to do this, fill reservoir with water and then drain.

Close the ball valve on inlet to the water purifier.Switch power supply for the booster pump for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration.Close the faucet of reservoir.Open the pure water faucet to relieve a water pressure, then close the faucet.Prepare the new filter element for installation: extract it from its packaging, remove transport seals from it and prepare seals for installation on the used filter element.Disconnect fittings from the filter housing using a fork-shaped plastic wrench.Install transport seals on plastic tubes of filter element to prevent spreading of water during dismounting. Holding the water purifier, remove used filter element from clips. Note a direction of water flow indicated on label of the filter element.

Possible faults and its solving

Water is not flowing when opened faucet.- The ball valve closed or partially opened on inlet of water purifier.- Closed or partially opened faucet of reservoir.

- Open the valve.

- Open the faucet.

Leakage between the flask and cover of level of pre-treatment.

- Flask is not enough tightened by wrench.

- Sealing ring of flask is damaged or displaced.

- Filter element is installed incorrectly or inappropriate size.

- Pull flask by wrench.

- Disconnect water supply to water purifier. Replace or install sealing ring to its place.- Disconnect water supply to water purifier, check for correct installation of filter element. Compare with used ones, replace if inappropriate size.

Leakage on connection fitting.

- Plastic tube installed improperly.

- A solid particle places on sealing ring surface.

- Fitting sealing ring is damaged.

- Remove tube from fitting. Make a mark by marker of 15-17 mm from tube edge. Insert tube until it stops to a mark.- Remove tube, pull out a collet from fitting housing. Gently remove debris from sealing ring using tweezers. Reconnect.- Please contact technical support to replace the sealing ring / fitting.

Fault Possible cause means of elimination

Install the new filter element into clips, observing direction of water flow.Install angular fittings to its stop on tubes of filter element.Open the ball valve on inlet of water purifier.Switch on power supply of booster pump for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration.Open the faucet of reservoir.Open the pure water faucet and wash the new filter element with 5 liters of water. Choppy air can escape from the pure water faucet at beginning of washing. This is not a malfunction.Close pure water faucet and faucet of reservoir. A few minutes later, inspect the water purifier for leaks, tighten the connections if necessary.

It is necessary to carry out periodically disinfection of inner surfaces and reservoir additionally with timely replacement of filter elements, to provide efficient work for a long time. Recommended frequency of work - not less than 1 time per year, and every 6 months in case of suspicion on biofouling of internal surfaces pre-treatment levels.Only qualified specialist can carry out work for system disinfection system. Please use BARRIER hotline for consulting and maintenance request preparation in a convenient time for you.If you plan not to use the water purifier for more than 2 weeks, it must be disabled. For this do the follow steps:1. Close the ball valve on inlet of the water purifier.

2. Switch off power supply of booster pump for "BARRIER PROFI Osmo Boost" configuration.3. Open pure water faucet and drain all the water from reservoir.4. Remove filter elements of pre-treatment levels, reverse osmosis membrane module and filter element of 5th level of purifying. Drain water from them, tightly pack every filter element in clean plastic bag and place them in refrigerator. 5. Drain remaining water from flasks and membrane housing. Wipe them dry.6. Close faucet of reservoir.7. Install filter elements into appropriate levels of purifying after storing, and then flush the water purifier.

Use the water purifier for its designed purposes only. Keep the water purifier clean and protect it from shocks and other mechanical damage. Do not use the water purifier to clean a hot water.Do not allow of tension or bend of plastic tubes. Do not operate the water purifier in proximity of heating devices. Do not allow elements of the water purifier to touch hot water pipes.

Do not freeze of water in the water purifier and filter elements.Do not forget timely to change filter elements of pre-treatment levels. This will allow maximizing the life of reverse osmosis membrane module.

High rate of salinity level of purified water. - Reverse osmosis membrane module is damaged. - Replace reverse osmosis membrane module.

Weak water pressure / no water pressure from the pure water faucet.

- Low sub-membrane water pressure in reservoir.

- Water leakage under membrane of reservoir.- Check valve is not works properly.- Lifetime of 1st and/or 3rd level filter element has expired.- Reverse osmosis membrane module is polluted.

- Drain all water from the reservoir. Fill air into sub-membrane cavity by pump. Pressure should be in limits 0.25 to 0.5 at.- Replace reservoir.- Replace check valve.- Replace filter element(s).

- Replace reverse osmosis membrane module.

Pump runs after filling of reservoir.

- Check valve is not works properly.- High-pressure valve is not works properly.

- Diaphragm loop of pump has out of order.

- No power supply.

- AC adapter is out of order.
