All commodes MUST be cleaned after use or after contact with patients1. Wear gloves and apron2. Remove any faecal matter and urine with soap and water3. Clean commode with Chlor-Clean/ Clinell sporicidal wipe or similar (To activate Clinell wipe,

hold it under running tap, then squeeze to remove excess water, followingthe 1-8 step technique)

4. Dispose of gloves, apron and wipes into clinical waste bag5. Date and sign the green decontamination label and apply to commode6. Wash and Gel hands.

4. Wipe lid top

6. Wipe under lid

7. Wipe and clean the commode seat including the underside. *

Wipe underneath

8. Wipe the remainder of the frame and legs. Re-assemble commode.

* Ensure the underside of the seat is thoroughly cleaned, unclipping the seat where possible. If this is not possible apply the breaks, tip the commode against a wall whilst cleaning the underside (see picture on the right)
