An epic fantasy about cheating reality with imagination… and learning to fly!

The genius of Daniele Finzi Pasca shines through in this very personal piece created by the in-demand actor-director. As physically grand as Finzi Pasca’s work is in his direction of Corteo for Cirque du Soleil and the closing ceremonies of the most recent Olympics, Icaro is stunningly intimate and affecting, ranging from open laughter, to moments of tenderness, joy and elation.

Daniele has performed Icaro in five languages throughout Europe and South America, but never in the United States. The Barclay is truly honored on the occasion of its 25th season to present Icaro and its creator in its first and exclusive U.S. appearance. 5

In 1974, Irvine voters approved the first of two bond issues to support the construction of a community performing arts facility. It was finally a partnership of the City of Irvine, the University of California, Irvine, and the volunteer leadership and professional staff of the nonprofit Irvine Barclay Theatre Operating Company that refined the vision and got the job done. The city led the construction; the university provided the land; the theatre’s operating company augmented public support with millions of dollars of private contributions including major gifts from the Barclay family, the Cheng family and The Irvine Company.
