Presentation of the Baranivka Volunteer Programme, 2011TRANSCRIPT
Mission The creation of a meeting place, open to everyone that is aimed at the harmonious development of individuals and a community of people who will work to improve society.
THE HOUSE IS: • a community of people who share the philosophy “Be the change you want to see in the world” and are putting it into practice. • resource for all-round development through various programmes and exchange of knowledge.
• a place for spiritual, psychological and physical healing through simple work, healthy foods, fresh air and life in harmony with nature.
Our vision
• a place to inspire and implement a variety of initiatives, which are beneficial to society: cultural, ecological, educational, peace-building, social, etc. • an initiative, inspired by the activity of the international NGOs “Initiative of Change” and “Foundations for Freedom”. We follow the principles and philosophy of these two organisations.
Our vision
is situated in the Poltava region of Central
Ukraine, between Ukraine’s two biggest cities,
Kiev and Kharkiv.
Baranivka village
We are active young people who
are ready to give time and energy
not only to building a House, but
also to practising and spreading the
philosophy of “improving the world
by improving ourselves”.
WHO ARE WE?
From the start of the project in
April 2010 we have managed to:
• Purchase a small house
constructed of clay and wood and
the surrounding 0.93 ha of land.
• Start the construction of an extension to the existing
house to enlarge the living space from 40m2 to 160
m2. So far, the foundations of the extension have been
laid, the foundations of the existing house have been
strengthened, the wooden frame erected and the roof
has been covered. The walls will be built with straw
bales.
Our achievements
ти • Drill a bore hole and lay a pipe to provide
drinking water to the house. Provide a suitable electricity supply with a stable voltage to the house as well as Internet access to the house.
• Increase the project core team from 3 to 12 people. A wider circle of Baranivka supporters is now over 150 people.
• Help the House to start functioning - more than 220 people from 19 countries have visited it over the last year; 9 major events have taken place in Baranivka.
• Take the first steps towards making the House self-sustainable by rejuvenating the garden, planting a vegetable garden and producing «Baranivka» souvenirs.
Our achievements
• All activities (including building the extension) have been carried out by volunteers. • So far, 50% of the building and maintenance costs have been covered through private donations – from ourselves and our wonderful friends; the remaining 50% have been covered through the generous support of different funds: the Frits Philips Fund, Irene Prestwich Trust and Initiatives of Change Norway, Australia and Sweden.
