  • 2. Part/Part Whole Problems Show: Two or more parts together equal a whole amount We show this using two or more connected bars to show a whole. Part Whole
  • 3. So here are some examples:Dylan does his homework for 14 hours onMonday and 17 hours on Tuesday. How manyhours does Dylan work on his homework onMonday and Tuesday? Monday Tuesday 14 17 ? Total Hours of Homework
  • 4. So we add14 (Monday) + 17 (Tuesday) = 31 Total Hours of Homework
  • 5. Sometimes we use models to show subtractionThere are 24 students in the class. 7 studentsdo not bring in their homework! How manystudents bring it in? Do Not Do 7 ? Total Students So.. 24
  • 6. We subtract24 (all students) - 7 (students who did not do homework) = 17 students who did do homework
  • 7. So Bar models are used to show, in picture form, how parts are related to the whole. Can you show a very simple model of 2+2=? Be ready to practice more challenging ones tomorrow in class!
