Dual Credit Programs

• Provides opportunities for students to obtain high school and college credit simultaneously.

• Dual enrolled courses eases the transition from high school to college.

• Provides students an early start on their college careers.

• Saves students and parents money.

Dual Credit Programs

ACCEL• Allows students to take college-level

coursework for credit towards both high school and college graduation requirements.

• Courses are available only in the core academic areas – English, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Modern Language

Program Eligibility Requirements

• The student must be entering the 11th or 12th grade and spent the prior year in a Georgia public high school.

• The student must be a US citizen or an Eligible Non-Citizen for the 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the first day of classes of the school term for which ACCEL Program payment is sought.

• The student must meet federal Selective Service registration requirements.

Academic Requirements

• Student must have a 3.25 Academic GPA

• Student must have minimum test scores of:– SAT – 480 or higher CR and 440 or higher

math with minimum combined score of 970– ACT– 20 or higher in English, 18 or higher in

Math and a minimum composite score of 20

Participation Requirements

• Students must be enrolled in a minimum of five classes between the high school and post-secondary institution.

• Students enrolled in ACCEL are expected to complete all coursework, GHSWT, and GA Milestones assessment requirements as defined by the GADOE.

• Courses can be taken beyond the regular school hours and/or through virtual courses.

Extra-Curricular Activities

• Students are allowed to participate in high school competitive and other extracurricular events. They must pass all five classes the semester prior to the activity and be on track for graduation to be eligible as required by the GA High School Association and Rule 160-5-1-.18 Competitive Interscholastic Activities Grades 6-12.

• Conflicts with class requirements and scheduling could prevent the student from being able to participate.

ACCEL Expenses

• Expense varies based on institution of enrollment

• An eligible student enrolled in an eligible institution for secondary credit shall not be eligible for any other state or federal student financial aid at an eligible institution for courses taken under the program.

• Remedial and developmental courses are not available for ACCEL.

• Students are responsible for their own transportation and any food costs.

Impact on HOPE Scholarship

• As of fall 2011, hours paid under Accel will NOT count against the 127 paid hour cap for the HOPE Scholarship

• GSFC will use the high school HOPE GPA and not the attempted-hours at college for determination of future HOPE eligibility.– ACCEL courses receive a 10 point weight on

transcript but it is removed for HOPE calculation.– GSFC adds .5 weight for Dual Enrolled Courses.

Impact on Graduation

• Student’s high school graduation could be affected by course incompletion, and/or failure.

• Student must notify the high school if his/her enrollment status changes at any time at the eligible postsecondary institution.

• Upon completion of the courses, the student shall be responsible for requesting an official transcript be sent to the student’s high school.

Move on When Ready(MOWR)

• High school juniors and seniors are able to enroll full-time (minimum 12 semester hours, but up to 15 semester hours) in college to earn both high school and college credits at the same time.

• All classes are taken through the college.

• May take approved academic, career technical, fine arts and elective courses.

Program Eligibility

• Minimum GPA of 3.5• Student must have minimum test scores of:

– SAT – 530 minimum Critical Reading and 530 minimum Math

– ACT – 23 minimum English and 22 minimum Math. Be a high school junior or senior seeking a high school

diploma from an eligible GA high school and have spent the prior year in a Georgia public high school.

Maintain satisfactory academic progress towards fulfilling applicable high school graduation requirements.

Meet all college admission and registration requirements.

Additional Requirements

• Move on When Ready students must meet all state assessment requirements, including GA Milestones Assessments and the GHSWT as referenced in State Board of Education Rule 160-3-1-.07 Testing Programs-Student Assessment.

• Students will need to participate in required state testing at the same time and locations their local system conducts the testing.

Extra-Curricular Activities

• Students are eligible to participate in competitive interscholastic activities in grades 9-12, following the provisions of State Board Rule 160-5-1-18.

• It is the student’s responsibility to be able to meet all the requirements, schedules, and conditions to be able to participate. In some cases this may not be possible.

MOWR Expenses

• Tuition and mandatory fees are the only expenses covered. The student and/or parents/guardians are responsible for all other expenses.

• An eligible student enrolled in an eligible institution for secondary credit shall not be eligible for any other state or federal student financial aid at an eligible institution for courses taken under the program.

Maintaining Eligibility

• Students, who drop below full-time enrollment status at the post-secondary institution for any reason during the term, forfeit their eligibility to continue in MOWR and will return to their local high school.

• If a student fails a course a decision would have to be made by the parents of the student and the high school counselors to determine whether the student could continue and be successful and still be able to meet graduation requirements.

HOPE Grant

• A non-need based grant program for students seeking technical certificates or diplomas from a technical college.

Program Requirements

• Be a legal resident of Georgia• Be accepted in an eligible college or

university or public technical college as a dual credit student taking approved courses leading to a Certificate or Diploma.

• Maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the college

HOPE Grant Funding• The HOPE Grant covers 90% of

tuition. There may be mandatory fees and book costs that are charged to high school students.

• The hours used during high school do NOT go towards the total number of credit hours for which they can receive Hope Grant payment which is 63 semester hours.

College Credit Now & Impact on Graduation

Transfer of Programs• Students who are admitted under the College Credit

Now programs will not be permitted to switch to another dual enrollment program (MOWR, ACCEL or HOPE Grant) once they enroll in classes.

• Students cannot transfer to another USG institution during an academic term and receive credit.

• College credits earned while in College Credit Now programs are transferable. Students should be advised to consider the requirements of their post-high school institution when planning dual enrollment coursework.

RemindersA. A MOWR student cannot take additional
