•  The goal of Bamboo Science Group is to develop technology for the use of bamboo as a resource for clean fuel, water purification and beneficial organic chemicals. The innovative bamboo charcoal air freshener concept presented here, develops a minimum viable product for retail sales to “jump-start” a green and altruistic company.

Problem: Air Fresheners are Unhealthy

Common air fresheners like Febreze are problematic because they release a sickening artificial scent that mixes with existing odors. Plus, the chemicals in the artificial scent aggravate asthma and allergies. In a recent independent study conducted by the EWG on the P&G brand, Febreze, 89 air contaminants were detected in the product, yet the label on Febreze only included 5 ingredients. Many of the 89 air contaminants cause immunotoxicity, neurotoxicity, cancer, developmental/reproductive toxicity, and allergies.

Solution: Bamboo Charcoal

Refined at over 800°C, this high purity carbon adsorbs odors because of it vast surface area - up to 400 meters squared per gram of charcoal !

Business Model:

The business model is to subsidize bamboo fuel with Western retail product sales and is both green and altruistic. Green because bamboo is a vital, sustainable and renewable resource. Rapid growing bamboo capable of absorbing 30% more CO2 than a hardwood forest. The charcoal is a dense energy source, clean burning and can be grown locally Altruistic in that for each product sold, one bamboo charcoal fuel briquette will be donated for cookstoves to the poorest Cambodian Families.
