Maryland Transit Administration (MTA)
• 5307 grants are used to support transit operating and capital requests at the local level.
• Significant uses of 5307 funds in the region include bus purchases, bus replacements, preventive maintenance and safety improvements.
• MTA is programming $1,470,000 in the coming year for Operating Assistance under Section 5307 funds.
• MTA is programming $63,258,000 in the coming year for Capital Projects under Section 5307 funds.
Air Quality Conformity
• Ensures that Federal funding and
approval are given to transportation
activities that are consistent with air
quality goals
• Ties together transportation planning and
air quality planning
• Consultation requirements
Air Quality Conformity
• NAAQS = National Ambient Air Quality
Standard
• Transportation plans, programs, and
projects cannot:
– Create new NAAQS violations
– Increase the frequency or severity of existing
NAAQS violations; or
– Delay attainment of the NAAQS

Moderate Nonattainment
• Annual Fine Particulate Matter NAAQS -

Interagency Consultation
• For the air quality conformity
determination process, BRTB consults
with the Maryland Departments of the
Environment and Transportation
• FHWA, FTA, and EPA also included in
the Interagency Consultation Group.
