Special exhibition
The current special exhibition at Ballenberg Open-Air Museum is dedicated to Switzerland’s most well-known livestock ani-mal: the cow. Learn about other side of the country’s unofficial national animal at the Farmhouse from Ostermundigen, Berne (331). How has the cow influenced traditions and festivals? How did the cow make its way from the stall to the living room? What did a farming family need in order to take care of its cattle? And how was butter and cheese made from milk?
Listen to the sounds of historical cowbells, wonder at the wide variety of wooden cows and get to know real cow dung and its value.

The kiosk and the products on sale are presented as they would have appeared one hundred years ago, when it used to sell souvenirs, keep-sakes and snacks to tourists from all over the world. Follow in their footsteps and experience the kiosk’s cosy flair. In addition to woodcarvings and handmade objects from Ballenberg, sweet treats and toys, you will also find a selec-tion of souvenirs from days gone by.
