INTRODUCTION A ball mill is a type of grinder used to

grind materials into extremely fine powder. It’s a cylindrical device used in grinding (or mixing) materials like ores, chemicals, ceramic raw materials and paints.Different materials are used as media, including ceramic balls, flint pebbles and stainless steel balls.

CONSTRUCTION A ball mill consists of a hollow cylindrical shell rotating

about its axis. The axis of the shell may be either horizontal or at a

small angle to the horizontal. It is partially filled with balls. The grinding media is the

balls, which may be made of steel (chrome steel), stainless steel or rubber.

The inner surface of the cylindrical shell is usually lined with an abrasion-resistant material such as manganese steel or rubber.

The length of the mill is approximately equal to its diameter.

After crushing the sample is sent to ball mill for even more finer particle below 1mm.

CONICAL BALL MILLSA cone-shaped tumbling pulverizer in which the steel balls are classified, with the larger balls at the feed end where larger lumps are crushed, and the smaller balls at the discharge end where the material is finer.

The Conical Mill is most efficient when the maximum feed size is less than 2" and iron contamination is not a factor.

CYLINDRICAL BALL MILLS

Introduction to cylindrical ball mills. The cylindrical ball mills is key equipment for re-crushing materials after being primarily crushed.

CYLINDROCONICAL BALL MILLS

This is the upgraded version of cylindrical ball mills.

VIBRATION BALL MILLSIt is such a method of grinding, it is very faster than a all other ball mills.

PLANETARY BALL MILL

This ball mills are smaller than common ball mills and mainly used in laboratories for mill. Planetary grinding sample material down to very small sizes.

HIGH-ENERGY BALL MILL

It’s a ball milling process where a powder mixture placed in the ball mill is subjected to high-energy collision from the balls.

APPLICATIONS The ball mill is used for grinding

materials such as coal, pigments, and felspar for pottery.

Grinding can be carried out either wet or dry but it should performed at low speed.

ADVANTAGES OF THE BALL MILL The cost of installation and grinding medium is

low. It is suitable for both batch and continuous

operation. It is suitable for open as well as closed circuit

grinding. It is applicable for materials of all degrees of

hardness. High production capacity and crushing ratio. Low power consumption, uniform particle size. Simple structure , easy to operate.

CONCLUSION A ball mill is a type of grinder used

to grind materials into extremely fine powder.

It can be carried out either wet or dry materials.

Low investment cost, big profit.
