Background Refresh
BACKGROUND REFRESH: STOP AUTOMATIC APP REFRESHING
Many apps can refresh their content in the background. This means they’ll always be up-to-date when they’re opened. Of course, this can affect battery life. To stop this, open the Settings app, select General, then Background App Refresh. You can turn it off for all apps at the top of the screen, or turn it off for individual apps from a list below. If you use an app that requires your location, then leave Background App Refresh on for that app in the list so it can continue to track your whereabouts.
46
Location ServicesLOCATION SERVICES: LIMIT YOUR LOCATION USAGE
To see which apps are using your location, open the Settings app, select Privacy, then Location Services. To turn off all location services toggle the option at the top, or select an app to control it individually. Location usage can be set to Never to stop the app’s access to your location permanently, or While Using to limit the app’s ability to use your location only when open

Nest Cam is a high-
definition Wi-Fi video camera with remote viewing and two-way sound for your home or business.
Nest Learning Thermostat is an electronic, programmable, and self-learning Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat that optimizes heating and cooling of homes and businesses to conserve energy.
iGrill gives you peace of mind that your food will be perfectly cooked, at target temperature and safe for consumption. iGrill communicates with your iPhone, iPod, or iPad via a secure, long-range Bluetooth connection.
72
Egg Minder If you were going to put all your eggs in one basket, you’d want it to be this one. Part of the Quirky + GE line of products, the Egg Minder tells your Wink app
the number of eggs left in your tray, and when the oldest one got there. You can
check your egg tray while you’re at the store, so you’ll never be in a scramble for a
good egg again. A light sensor detects when you open the fridge door, and an LED
light highlights the oldest egg. Now that’s over-easy!
