7) Excess baggage rate calculation for OAL

• Baggage Rules

Excess baggage charges where Interline and Codeshare itineraries are involved is governed by IATA Resolution 302 which states that the Most Significant Marketing Carrier (MSMC) rule is used to determine correct baggage allowances and charges.

Below are the guide lines for determining the MSC in regard to itineraries involving Interline Flights:

• For travel between two or more IATA TC areas, the carrier operating the first sector that crosses from one area to another.

• For travel between TC Sub-Areas, the carrier operating the first sector that crosses between one sub-area to another

• For travel within a TC Sub-Area, the carrier operating the first international sector

Applicable free baggage allowance is automatically updated on the ticket when it is issued.

Exceptions: Airlines do have the option to follow the baggage policy as per Most Signification Operating Carrier (MSOC). In such cases, tickets shall reflect the baggage allowance as per the rules of the operating carrier.

• Excess Baggage rate calculation

Excess baggage rate calculation is made as given below. An Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) cannot be issued for itineraries involving other airlines as EMD is not yet Interlineable and hence guests are advised to pay and a manual Excess Baggage Ticket (EBT) is issued at the airport.

a) Excess Baggage rate calculation for Weight concept

Where Etihad Airways is the Most Significant Marketing Carrier (MSMC), apply the Etihad excess baggage rates as per the excess baggage rates table shown above for the entire journey.

Where another airline (interline) is the MSMC, the other carrier’s excess baggage rule should apply. Since the rates offered by other carriers are not automated, apply 1.5% of the highest IATA (YY) economy class one way fare per kilogram for the entire journey as per the IATA ruling.

Example

Ticket on EY stock (607) booked on operating carrier (interline) – (MSMC 9W)

Apply 1.5% of the highest IATA (YY) economy class one way fare per kilogram for AUH-BOM

12

b) Excess Baggage rate calculation for Piece concept

When Etihad Airways checks-in the guest, always apply the excess baggage charges as per Etihad table.

Procedure

The below procedure shall be followed to calculate excess baggage charges:

Step 1: Determine the Most Significant Marketing Carrier (MSMC) Step 2: Check baggage allowance/ excess baggage charges of MSMC Step 3: Issue a manual Excess Baggage Ticket (EBT) with applicable rate

Example for weight concept: A guest is travelling on EY from AUH-BOM and 9W from BOM-BKK with 5kg excess baggage, holding a 9W document.

Carriage of Sporting Equipment

Page 13: BAGGAGE - Etihad Globalagents.etihad.com/Documents/PDFs/RevisedBaggage... · The agent needs to enter only Form of ... Excess Baggage in Sabre/Abacus GDS Step 1 ... hence guests are

d) Musical Instruments To be accepted as checked baggage only. Charge the applicable excess baggage rate if in excess of checked baggage allowance.

For guests who wish to carry their musical instruments along with them in the cabin, an extra seat can be purchased.

d) Wheelchairs Incapacitated guests may carry one wheelchair and/or other assisting devices free of charge. Acceptable dimensions and batteries of wheelchair are as follows:

Height – 120cm (47 inches) Weight – 60 kgs Lithium battery operated – 1 battery at 300Wh or if multiple each 160Wh Wet cell operated – Inform guest that the battery needs to be removed and packed separately. If the height and/or weight exceeds above measurements, contact Etihad Airways and check if acceptable on the aircraft that the guest intends to fly on. e) Golfing & Scuba Diving Equipment

• Weight concept and Piece concept

Golf equipment and Scuba Diving equipment is accepted as checked baggage and described as:

One set of golfing/scuba diving equipment each consisting of 1 golf bag (containing golf clubs and 1 pair of golf shoes) OR (Scuba Diving Set) weighing maximum of 15kgs to be accepted as checked baggage free of charge up to 15kg in addition to the ticketed checked baggage allowance.

Where the journey involves interline travel carriage on the Etihad sectors shall be as stated above while charges on the other airline sectors shall be as per the standard IATA procedure.

Lost Baggage

Guests who have arrived at their destination and whose baggage has been lost/delayed or damaged or not arrived must report to Baggage Service Desk before they leave the customs hall. Once they have given all the necessary information a passenger report shall be made and they shall be given a file number. This file number is required for any status checks/follow-ups to be carried out on a file.

If the guest has left the station where the report was filed, they can contact the nearest Etihad Airways airport office (provided that the incident is reported earlier).
