In addition to the no-till drills available for rent at Carroll SWCD,
we have added a cone spreader to the collection. This spreader can be
used for frost seeding, cover crop applications, and deer plot installa-
tion. The small size of this spreader takes a smaller horse power to
use compared to the grain drills.
The spreader will be rented on a first come, first serve basis. Use of
fertilizer in the spreader is prohibited. Rental rate for 2018 is $25 per
day, including weekends. Call 330-627-9852 ext. 3 for more infor-
mation or to be placed on the rental list today!
No-Till Grain Drill Rental
New: Cone Spreader Available
We will be offering two different machines this spring. The equip-
ment is rented on a first come, first serve basis and will have a mini-
mum rental charge of $50. Rental rates for 2018 are $15 per acre with
discounts available for utilizing various conservation efforts:
Have you Updated Your Conservation Plan Lately?
Fields with a plan written and approved by Carroll SWCD
within the last five years receive a $3 per acre discount.
Have You Measured Your Residue Lately?
Acres with greater than 40% residue are eligible for a $2 per
acre discount.
Have You Tested Your Soil Lately?
If you have current soils test for the field being planted you
can receive a $1 per acre discount.
If you are interested in renting one of the drills this season please call
Joe Mayle at the Carroll SWCD office at 330-627-9852 ext. 4093
Did you know? No-till causes little disturbance to the remaining crop residue, therefore, we see lit-
tle run-off or erosion from no-till crop fields. Other benefits include less time in the field, improved soil
quality and as good or better crop yields. Something else to consider is fuel savings. Did you realize it
takes approximately 500 gallons of diesel fuel to plant 100 acres of corn using conventional tillage meth-
ods? Remember that in addition to every dollar saved in fuel, there is approximately another $5 to $10 per
acre in additional savings in labor, machinery investment and related costs.

Cover Crop Cost Share Program The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District
(MWCD) will be continuing their cover crop cost share
program for 2018. Fields that are located within the Musk-
ingum Watershed in Carroll County can receive approxi-
mately $12 per acre cost share regardless of seeding meth-
od or termination method. The Muskingum Watershed
includes both the dark green and light green areas on the
map. The red area is not in the MWCD.
Participants may attend one of the scheduled sign up days
to fill out applications so that fields may be ranked to de-
termine funding. Please allow at least two hours to attend
an informational meeting about the program requirements
and to complete applications. Be sure to bring field maps or location information to sign up. The sign up
days will be held at the Carroll SWCD office at 613 North High Street in Carrollton on:
June 1st, 2018 at 9:00AM or June 8th, 2018 at 9:00AM
No RSVP is necessary for above dates. If you are unable to sign up on one of these days, please contact
the Carroll SWCD office at 330-627-9852 ext. 3. All applications must be in by June 15th, 2018.
Big Tree Contest: White Oak Carroll SWCD is looking for the biggest white oak in Carroll County! Do you have it on your property?
“White Oak is found throughout all of Ohio, in habitats ranging from dry forests and fields to mesic
woodlands and down slopes. Like many members of the White Oak group, the undersides of its leaves
are white-green, and its wood is a light-colored beige that is almost white when freshly cut; hence its
common name.” — ODNR Division of Forestry
If you are interested in entering the contest, please call our office at 330-627-9852 ext. 3. All trees entered
in the contest will be measured for size and the winner will be announced at our Annual Meeting in Oc-
tober. Entries are limited to one per family. The deadline for entries is August 20, 2018.

DETAILS: A new soil testing program is now open
to the Carroll County agriculture pro-
ducers through the Carroll Soil and
Wat e r Co n se r va t i o n D i st r i c t
(SWCD). Over the past two years,
Carroll SWCD has been working with
48 producers to conduct Solvita soil test
on their crop fields and pastures. The
Solvita soil test measures the carbon-
dioxide produced by the soil and is an
indicator of the health of the communi-
ty of micro-organisms living in the soil.
This year, Carroll SWCD is expanding the program and opening it to additional producers across the
county. 50 additional fields will be accepted into the program on a first come, first serve basis. Individual
producers may have up to one crop field and one pasture field enrolled in the program.
PROGRAM INCLUDES:
For those producers who participate in the program, Carroll SWCD staff will be making field visits with
the producer to take a soil test of the field. The test will include phosphorus, potassium, pH, and organic
matter testing, as well as the Solvita soil health test. Producers are encouraged to share their results with
their local agronomist. All of these tests are being made available at no cost to the producer, thanks to the
Carroll SWCD Board of Supervisors.
SIGN UP NOW!
Producers who are interested in applying for the soil testing program, or for more information about the
program, should contact Carroll SWCD by April 31st. Carroll SWCD can be reached in person from
8:00AM-4:30PM, Monday through Friday at the SWCD office located at 613 High Street NW in Carroll-
ton or by calling 330-627-9852 extension 3.
