Parent info night: Sept 12th; 7-8 pm Duffy● Grade level and advanced (6-8)

○ Placement determined using a variety of data● Assignments are done online

SPANISH

● Conversa Spanish Program: http://conversabooks.com● Grades 6,7 & 8 will have Spanish twice a week for 50 minutes.● Conversa approach is to work on a natural transition through

repetition and reading ● Lessons Include: reading ,grammar, vocabulary, and writing through

engaging activities of TPR, games, mimicry● Classes are taught mostly in Spanish and vocabulary is conveyed

through images, real objects● Class is Pass/Fail (70%-100%=Pass; 69%-below= Fail)● Sycamore: Assignments, documents, and grades will be posted

there. Please refer to course syllabus for details.

6th Grade Literature

Autobiography- Writing will be done in class. Extra work will

be done at home- Artwork done at home40 Book Challenge- Students will have incentives to read as

many books and take AR’s as they can.

SCIENCE FAIR

- All STUDENTS complete a project- 6th: Same project (experiment in class)- 7th: Choose from list- 8th: Own project (approval req.)

- Broken down into several small assignments- Assignments start in class

- 6th: present in class (top student move on)- 7th & 8th: present at science fair

Science Fair: Thursday Feb. 8, 2018

- COST: Sci Fair board ~$4- All boards decorated at home

- Begin process this week- Most 7th/8th experiments should be completed at home Oct/Nov.

Parent Meeting: Thurs. Sept. 21st 7-8pm in Duffy- Camp Location: Running Springs, CA- Dates: Monday Nov. 13th - Friday Nov. 17th- Registration forms handed out in class- Registration Forms AND $100 deposit due Sept 29th- Remaining Balance due Friday, Oct 13th

- Camp T-shirts/sweatshirts NOT available after camp- Medical personnel (RN, LVN, or EMT.) on staff- No direct mail to camp

- Parent letters (ONE ENVELOPE) due Wed, Oct. 25th- BE POSITIVE :-)
