Binder Organization: Students have three binders Math, Language Arts and a combined Science and Social Studies

binder. There will be binder quizzes to check organization.

Personal Dictionary: Develop skills that help students learn new words on their own--at their independent reading level. Due Fridays

Encourage at-home discussions about words. (Word of the Week) Word of the Day : included in the Personal Dictionary

Daily Paragraph Editing: (D.P.E.) Punctuation and grammar will be taught and then reinforced in written work for all subjects.AnalogiesQuizzes: There will be quizzes for the Word of the Day, D.P.E. and analogies.

Homework Board: Student PlannerMaking Meaning: Reading Instruction Independent Reading: Our goal is to foster an

environment where students find reading enjoyable and easy to do.

Students keep track of their reading in the Reading Log. Due Mondays. The goal is 125 minutes per week (about 25 minutes per night).

Word Study: Spelling new words and learning spelling patterns.

Word Study Packets: Practice how to spell the words and use them correctly in short writing assignments.

Class Reading: (Novel Study/Literature Circle Discussion Groups.) Students will practice, and then show mastery of reading skills and reading strategies taught in Making Meaning.

Skills: Making inferences, synthesizing information, determining word meaning using the context.
