Hello CES Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! To say the least, it will be one of the most unique years educators

and families have ever experienced. We are so

grateful for the outstanding support our parents, students and staff have provided to CES beginning this past March.

EMAIL OR CALL ME. The beginning to this school year will be different than any before, and we hope all parents know they can call or email me at any time with questions and feedback. Our teachers and support staff have been working hard to make sure we establish strong relationships with students and continue to provide rich instructional opportunities for all.

OPEN HOUSE | BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT. Our Open House and Back to School Night activities will be conducted virtually by grade-level teachers. Please pay close attention to the details for day/time and instructions for how to attend on page 2 of this newsletter.

GRADE LEVEL SCHEDULES. In addition to Open House and Back to School Night information, you will notice we have included grade level schedules for families (pages 6-13). This fall semester will have more opportunities for students to engage daily in synchronous instruction (live teaching).

GRADING. Students will be receiving grades in all subject areas including special areas and increased synchronous instructional time will greatly support student achievement while we are engaged in virtual instruction.

SURVEY. Our Technology Services Department has sent a survey to all parents in order to gather impor tant information that will help us in making sure all students have the necessary tools for virtual instruction. Please make sure to complete this survey for each student in your home so that we have accurate data to move forward. In addition to needed technology supports, we plan to provide students with materials that will assist them in ELA and STEM instruction. A designated pick up date will be communicated soon to all families.

YOUR CHILD’S INFORMATION. You can access your child’s classes/teacher assignments through our Home Access Center (HAC). Please see page 5 of this newsletter if you haven’t already signed up.

RETURN AND RECOVERY PLAN. Please take some time to review the details of the return and recovery plan for students posted on the CCPS website at https://www.carrollk12.org by clicking on the reopening and recovery tab on the left and reviewing the most recent plan dated July 29,2020.

GENERAL INFORMATION

JOIN THE CES PTA! :)

Please help support Carrolltowne Elementary School: Join the PTA!

HOME ACCESS

Home Access Center is Carroll County Public Schools’ parent portal. It allows parents/guardians to login and view information pertaining to their child. The Home Access Center is provided for the express use of the parents of Carroll County Public School District students to assist in the communication of important educational information. The goal of the Home Access Center is to assist you in effectively communicating with the teachers, staff, and administration about your student.

Go to the Carroll County Public Schools’ website at www.carrollk12.org and click the Home Access Center link located in the ‘Students and Parents’ section at the bottom of the home page.

CES’s PTA supports students and teachers through

their school and community events, fundraisers and

tremendous number of volunteer hours. Please

support their efforts by joining this year! The cost is

$9.00 for a single membership and $14.00 for a

double membership. We need support from all our

families.

Visit CarrolltownePTA.com and download the

membership form to learn more. You can join online

or by printing the membership form.

The PTA meets on the first Thursday of the month.

Join us for our first meeting of the 2020-2021 school

year! Look at www.carrolltownepta.com for the

date.

Follow the PTA Facebook page: search

FROM THE NURSE Greetings from Health Services. As a School Nurse I am committed to helping ensure the safety of students, staff, families, and communities, during this Public Health Crisis, mid-pandemic. Since March, School Nurses have been busy in an active role in the response to COVID-19. As we continue in this virtual learning environment, we will be here to assist with any needed plans for continuity of teaching and learning, for students with health concerns, which may affect the educational process. Please make sure that your child has all the required immunizations for starting school. These immunizations are required for enrollment. We are currently busy checking immunization records on all new Kindergarten and new grade level students. Parents of kindergarten students should make especially sure that their students have received 2 doses of MMR and Varicella. Further information about practices and procedures will be forth coming as the learning year evolves. Please check the CDC website for all the latest guidelines and best practices for COVID 19. Thank you

Please review your (updated on 9/4) child's Enhanced

Virtual Learning Schedule on the following pages.

(Pages 7-13).

Teachers will be reaching out to parents during the

week of August 31-September 4 to introduce

themselves and answer questions regarding virtual

learning.

As you can see, each grade level has one hour

designated for STEM instruction and one hour for

Humanities / ELA instruction, as well as 30 minutes daily

for Special Areas.

Also, there is an additional one hour block of

“synchronous student support time” during which

teachers will reach out to individual students, groups of

students, and parents for additional support,

instruction, and collaboration. Teachers will

communicate when students are invited to attend the

synchronous student support time, as this will vary

based upon student need.

It is the hope that students are online during their STEM,

Humanities / ELA and Special Areas block.

As always you may contact Principal Becky DuPree via

email at [email protected]

CONSENT AND RELEASE

Permission to Photograph, Videotape or Audiotape

Throughout the school year, the Carroll County Public School System frequently covers school activities and may

use your child’s photograph, video image, or voice for educational, informational, or public relations purposes, with or

without identification by name.

If you do not wish to have your child’s voice reproduced on tape or to have his/her image appear in such things

as a video or a photograph, or on the school or school system website or social media, please notify the school principal

in writing. It is assumed that parents and guardians consent to their children being audiotaped, photographed,

videotaped, or having their image placed on a school website or social media by the school system unless such

notification is received.

There are also occasions when the media cover certain school events (such as when a government leader visits a

school). If you do not wish to have your child’s name or likeness published by the media, you should address your

concerns directly to the school involved so that the media is so advised. Please be advised that the school system has no

control over the media when they are covering activities such as sporting events and musical programs that are open to

the public.

Use of Student Work on Websites or in Publications

There may be times throughout the year when the Carroll County Public School System wishes to display student

work on school websites, social media, or in publications. If you do not wish to have your child’s art, poetry, writing, etc.

appear on school websites, social media, or in publications, please notify the school principal in writing. It is assumed that

parents and guardians consent to their child’s work being displayed on school websites, social media, or in publications

unless such notification is received.
