A Note on Colorfastness. Peaches & Creme is pure cotton, and it is both soft and durable. It fades, though. Some shades fade a lot. We’re very comfortable with burp cloths, towels, bibs, and washcloths fading. Fading is part of their charm as everyday objects. But if you’re not comfortable with fading, use a premium cotton yarn.

G A U G EIt doesn’t really matter! Approx 20 sts + 40 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) over garter st.

P A T T E R N

CO 40 sts.

Next and all rows: Knit.

Continue until you have 32 garter ridges (64 rows).

Next row: Begin the neck straps. K10, BO 20 sts, k final 10 sts. Leave first 10 sts on needle to be knitted later. Turn work, k10 sts until strap is 5 inches (12.5 cm) long. BO.

Return to the 10 sts being held on needle and make the second strap. K10 until strap is 4 inches (10 cm).

Make a buttonhole in the following manner:

First row: K4, BO 2, k4.

Next row: K4, CO 2 using backward loop method, k4.

Next row: Knit. Continue knitting until second strap matches the first in length. BO. Sew on button. Decorate bib if you’re so inclined.

Repeat. Make a bunch of ’em. Babies are a mess!

S O L I D V E R S I O NCO 50 sts. Row 1 (WS): K2, *p1, k4; rep from * to last 3 sts, p1, k2.

Row 2 (RS): K2, *sl 1 purlwise with yarn in back, k4; rep from * to last 3 sts, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in back, k2.

Repeat these 2 rows 60 more times, then repeat Row 1 one more time. BO.

S T R I P E V E R S I O NNote: For this version, use 2 colors of your chosen yarn, A and B.

Using A, CO 50 sts.

Row 1 (WS): K2, *p1, k4; rep from * to last 3 sts, k1, k2.

Row 2 (RS): Join B. (Do not cut A.) K2, *sl 1 purlwise with yarn in back, k4; rep from * to last 3 sts, sl 1 purl-wise with yarn in back, k2.

Row 3: K2, *p1, k4, rep from * to last 3 sts, p1, k2.

Continue to work 2 rows using A and 2 rows using B throughout.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 60 more times ending with a WS row. BO.
