Animals in a Farm
Goat● Female Goat is called a

● When the baby is first born it is called a foal.
● Most foals are born at night and within 1-2 hours of birth a foal is able to stand up and walk

Cow● Young cattle are called calves. A
young male is called a bull calf; a young female before she has calved the second time is called a heifer
● They can stand and walk on their own very quickly after being born.
● Calves have teeth when they are born, but they are very small and soft. The mother cow chews their food before giving it to the baby cow so they have an easier time and can start practicing.

Pig● A baby pig is called a piglet● A group of young pigs are called a
drift, drove or litter ● A mommy pig, known as a sow, can
give birth on average to up to 12 piglets at one time
● Piglets tend to be born with a pink color and are generally very light skinned when compared to their pig parents
● As they get older and bigger, their body and markings tend to darken and their tiny tail curls will grow!

Black Panther ● Female panther is called she-panther ● A baby panther is called a cub ● A group of panthers are called a claw
of panthers ● Panther is known as black jaguar in
Latin America, as black leopard in Asia and Africa, and as black cougar in North America.
● At age of 2-3 months, cubs learn how to hunt from their mother.
● Around nine months, young panthers can catch medium-sized prey.

Lion ● A baby lion is called a cub ● Female lion is called a lioness ● A group of lions is called a pride ● A group of tigers is called a streak ● Lion cubs are born blind and don’t
open their eyes until about a week after birth. They start walking and crawling within just 2-4 days of being born
● By the age of 4 weeks, they can run. The mother lion starts teaching her cubs to hunt when they are approximately 3 months old.

● Baby elephants stay very close to their mothers for the first couple of months.
● The calves drink their mother's milk for about two years, sometimes longer. They drink up to 3 gallons of milk a day

pounds (36 kilograms), their mothers stop nursing them.
● The pups go without food for about six weeks and can lose about half their body weight until they dive in and begin to hunt for themselves.
● The young seals are famous for their snowy white coats.
