Free pattern for June 2019

Ra Ra Raffia Sun Hat by Babetta Materials: 1 100 grams skein of Wool and the Gang Ra Ra Raffia, size H hook, split ring or locking stitch marker I like to begin circular crochet with a magic circle. If you don’t know how you can look up the technique on youtube. Round 1: sc 6 into magic circle, mark last stitch (the beginning of this hat is worked in a spiral so you will be moving the marker to last stitch before starting a new round. 2sc in 1 st = inc (increase), sc=single crochet, dc=double crochet, slst=slip stitch, rep=repeat Round 2: inc in each st around = 12sc Round 3: (sc, inc) rep around = 18sc Round 4: (sc, sc, inc) rep around = 24sc Round 5: (sc, sc, sc, inc) rep around = 30sc Round 6: (sc, sc, sc, sc, inc) rep around = 36 Round 7: (sc in the next 5, inc) rep around = 42 Round 8: (sc in the next 6, inc) rep around = 48 Round 9: (sc in the next 7, inc) rep around = 54 Round 10: (sc in the next 8, inc) rep around = 60 At this point my circle measured 5 ¾” in diameter which makes a hat 22” in circumference. If your head is bigger you can do one more increase round, if your head is smaller stop at 54 sts. The fabric is slightly stretchy and the design isn’t intended to be fit tightly. Rounds 11, 12, & 13 are worked without inc At the end of round 13 sl st to 1st st to join Round 14: ch3, dc around, sl st into top ch of beginning ch Round 15: ch1, sc around, sl st to 1st st Repeat rounds 14 & 15 Repeat round 15 twice more Round 20: (sc in next 9, inc) rep around, sl st to 1st st = 66sc Round 21: (sc in next 10, inc) rep around, sl st in 1st st = 72sc Round 22: (sc in next 11, inc) rep around, sl st to 1st st = 78sc Round 23: (sc, sc, inc) rep around, sl st to 1st st = 104sc Round 24 & 25 repeat round 15 twice more

Round 26: (sc in next 12, inc) rep around, sl st to 1st st = 112 Round 27 & 28 repeat round 15 Round 29: (sc in next 13, inc) rep around, sl st to 1st st = 120 Rounds 29 & 30 repeat round 15 twice more Round 31: (sc in net 14, inc) rep around, sl st to 1st st = 128 Rounds 32 repeat around Round 33: (sc in next 15, inc) rep around, sl st in 1st st = 136 Round 34: (sc in next 16, inc) rep around, sl st in 1st = 144 Round 35: (sc in next 17, inc) rep around, sl st in 1st st = 152 Round 36: (sc in next 18, inc) rep around, sl st in 1st st = 160 Round 37: sc around, sl st to 1st st, weave in ends I used all but a yard of my yarn. Its fine to stop increasing at any point where you feel your hat is wide enough. If you want the edge to curl up just work two even rounds at the end.

July 2007 is all about HARRY POTTER. The movie “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” comes out this month and the greatly anticipated seventh book “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” we’ll be on sale July 21st. We have 20 copies coming. Get 20% off the list price if you preorder from us and we’ll be here at Midnight Friday July 20th for you to pick up your copy if you can’t wait until Saturday Morning. Meanwhile as an homage to these events, Maya has designed a fingerless glove pattern for this month’s free offering.

From “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”

Inspired by Delores Umbridge - Pink Angora Fingerless Gloves. This basic pattern can be used with any 5 stitch to the inch yarn. Of course the different house colors would make a great pair too! Encore Worsted and Dark Horse Fantasy work are great substitutes. Materials: 1 ball Pink “Princess” from Classic Elite, size 7 DPNs or size to obtain gauge, 1 yard 3/8” pink ribbon, and a yarn needle for weaving in ends. Gauge: 20 st over 4” Glossary: st st=stockinette, YO=yarn over, BO=bind off, k2tog= knit 2 together Cast on 40 sts evenly distributed on 3 DPNs, join into round being careful not to twist stitches and work 2 x 2 rib for 2 ½”. Work 1 round of (k2tog, yo). Work st st for 1”. To create thumb opening you stop, turn and purl back to beginning, then turn and knit back, work back and forth in st st for 1 ½” ending with a knit row. Join glove back into round again and work st st for 1”. Work 2 x 2 rib for 1”. BO in rib pattern. Cut Ribbon in half and weave in and out of the YOs around the wrist and tie a small bow. Of course it’s all right to change the round with the YOs to a regular knit round if you don’t want the little holes for the ribbon.
