Who are Books Abroad?

Books Abroad is a charity based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

We help to educate children worldwide by sending carefully

chosen, second hand school books, with no charge to the

recipitants.

History

From humble beginnings in a library cupboard, Keith

Brunskill started the charity based on an appeal for help by a

Nigerian Missionary.

Since Books Abroad was founded in 1982, over 520 tonnes of

specially selected books have been sent overseas (more than

2.6 million books!) to over 1600 schools and educational

establishments in 88 countries.

Books Abroad promotes literacy, education and understanding, which

provide the means of a sustainable escape route from the plight of poverty.

We recycle used books by sending them to schools and other institutions in

developing countries. We should aspire to meet the worldwide demand for

recycled books, whilst maintaining a quality level of service.

Our charity helps anyone in need who asks, from any

country in the world. We send our books free of charge by the

best route we can find. With a few stipulations for our schools

we are able to eliminate theft and ensure what we send is in

fact suitable.
