Have you ever attempted to put some- thing together without following the directions? Why do we do this? Pride? Sometimes we try to do something on our own without following God’s directions given in the Bible. God will for- give the arrogance which we sometimes have and will help us to seek His guidance and wisdom freely. All we have to do is ask. As usual the rain came along with The Hay- wood County Relay For Life, which was held Fri- day, May 14. The Relay was cut short due to ap- proaching bad weather. I know there were a lot of disappointed people but keeping people safe was the number one priority. Please keep Tiffany Goodman and her fam- ily in your thoughts and prayers in the loss of Mr. Herman “Buddy” Mat- lock. Mr. Matlock was called home Saturday, May 15 after a lengthy illness. Mt. Pleasant’s Home- coming was held Sun- day, May 16. There was a great turnout for this event as well as a great feast. People traveled both near and far to at- tend this annual event. Ronald Bruce was the guest speaker and might I add did a wonderful job. The Mt. Pleasant choir, Mrs. Alice McCla- nahan and Wilson Pow- ell brought the special music. Mrs. Alice played the marimba which is al- ways a very special treat during Homecoming. On the way home from church, I stopped by and visited in the home of Justin and Kim Hill who have recently purchased a home in the Eurekaton community. I enjoyed visiting with them and also with Keith and Sandy Campbell, Scott Campbell, Roger and Tonya Kirkland and Eugene and Billie Kirk- land who were also visit- ing with the Hill’s. Congratulations to all of Haywood High Class of 2010 graduates, to the Haywood Jr. High grad- uates and to all of the Kindergarten graduates. Thank you to Mrs. Marvin Reed who brought the residents lots of good magazines this past week. They’ll have some good reading now. Sue MacPhail had lunch with Mary Ann Halbrook Monday. She picked a good day – we had a little steak, baked potato, salad and coca cola cake for dessert. Ev- erything was delicious as usual and we all enjoyed having Sue join us. Early voting is about to start so won’t be long now before we have a new city mayor. The can- didates will all do good to remember that old saying “People will forget what you said, they will forget what you did, but they’ll never forget HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL.” Anticipate your bat- tles; fight them on your knees before temptation comes, and you will al- ways have victory. R. A. Torrey Russell and Kay Talia- ferro welcomed their son, Bill, who came from his US State De- partment duty station at Bratislava, Slovakia, last weekend for a few days visit. His visit also prompted visits from daughter, Pam, from Wisconsin and from son, Matt, of Johnson City, TN. Ashley’s parents, Ricky and Vicky Long, and her two sisters were special guests. It was also Marshall Stoots’ 25th birthday. Rachel Cook Free- man and her baby, Katie, were in town for a visit with Kathy and David Cook over the weekend. Allen and Patsy King had a family get-together at their home after Hay- wood Jr. High Gradu- ation Thursday night. Our mystery girl’s identity has not been guessed. The second clue is that she has three chil- dren. To guess, call 772- 1192. Send your news to [email protected]. Memorial Day will be celebrated on May 31, but how many of us re- ally think about the rea- son for that day? We take our freedom for granted, never realizing the price that was paid for free- dom. I hope everyone en- joys their long weekend. A bridal shower honor- ing Elizabeth Lovell and Kevin Lovelace was given last Saturday in the home of Patsy Climer. Family and friends wished this couple best wishes on their upcoming wedding on June 26. Parents of the bride are Danny and Don- na Lovell. Jackson Christian School’s Softball team went to State Competi- tion in Murfreesboro this week. It is the first time in the school history that JCS has progressed this far in the softball compe- tition. Laura Kendrick is a player for this team and is the daughter of Jay and Libby Kendrick. Congrat- ulations, Laura! Rebecca Grace Green celebrated her birthday with family and friends last Sunday af- ternoon. She had a “trop- ical” theme with those at- tending wearing tropical attire. I am happy to report that Phillip Sullivan re- turned to work a few weeks ago and is do- ing fine. Phillip under- went brain surgery a few months ago and recovery was great. Hummingbirds are swarming around my feeders and every morn- ing it is amazing to sit and watch them. It is getting harder and harder to keep the feeders full, but we need something to enjoy in our life. A spider bit James Har- old Haynes on the arm last week and he had to go to the doctor. All this rain will probably make bugs bad this summer. I heard the county has over a hundred roads that were damaged by the rains. Kenneth Sargent went to the doctor last week because his leg was swol- len, but is doing fine now. Betty Scott had eye surgery and is also do- ing great. The left eye will be done on June 10. Thought for the week: Were you to break off with friends who sin, you would be friendless. I must start by saying we had such a delight- ful time during morning worship this past Sun- day. Our Male Chorus truly blessed us in song as well as pastor Harden with the word! The day didn’t end there. Willie and I wor- shiped with my daughter Marketta at their annual women’s day prayer pro- gram that evening at De- liverance Cathedral with Bishop Nathaniel Bond. They had a dynamic speaker from Memphis and I found out she is a former member of Bran- don Porter’s ministry. Our choir worshiped with New Hope on their choir day. Bernadine Hill-Love had a surprise birthday party for her daughter Nikki, over the weekend. Plenty of food, family, and friends were all pres- ent to celebrate this occa- sion. Janice and Lonell Rog- ers gave their daughter Danyell a graduation dinner over the weekend. Danyell recently gradu- ated from TSU. My son Lambert re- turned to work this past Monday after several months of recovering from his accident last year while on duty. He can finally enjoy being a Lieutenant, which he was promoted to last year with the Memphis Police Dept. We want to keep the Robinson family in prayer during the pass- ing of Elvis Robinson. He worked at the courthouse for many years and drove a school bus. Sick and Shut-in: Mol- lie Walker, Emma Lue “Goldie” Graves, Pen- sacola “Pinky” Barbee, Sammie Hines, Hubert Hines, Martha Bond, Shirley Rogers, Levada Nicholson Bond, Iola “Toot” Love, William C. Wilson, Rev. J.H. Fuller, Steve White, Joyce Pirtle, Willie Herman Robinson, Reverend J.V. Carney, Mack Shaw, Nannie Sue Perry, Pearl Gray,Charles Cole, and Katherine “Madea” Maclin. Thought for the Week: “ Its yours for the Ask- ing” There are times when it seems that God deals with us on a need to know basis. Perhaps if we got too much too soon, we wouldn’t know what to do with it. If we got it too easily, we wouldn’t appreciate it properly as in too much, too soon. If we knew too much in ad- vance, we might engage in self-sabotaging activi- ties. John records in his gospel that Jesus did many more things but they were not recorded in his book. Jesus told the disciples that if he told them everything, they would not be able to bear it. All Moses knew was that he was told to tell Pharaoh to let my people go. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives gen- erously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5) You get this wisdom by first confessing your lack of it. You receive this wisdom by asking God for it. Then believe you’ll receive it. (James 1:6) So when you feel you are at a need to know moment, remember the wisdom of God. It’s yours for the asking.
