Think of a dream – it can be a dream that you have had or one that you have made up!

Now analyse the symbols and possible features – think about Condensation, Displacement, Secondary elaboration and any other ideas you might have about the dream and its meaning………

What does this dream mean??I was sitting in an English exam but I was still wearing my pyjamas. I finished the exam and realised that everybody else had left the room but I was stuck in my seat because I had a seat belt on and I couldn’t undo it. Suddenly I was on a roller coaster that was moving really quickly and people were screaming. The roller coaster stopped but I still couldn’t undo the seat belt…then I woke up…what does it mean??

What is psychoanalysis?

Your task:

Draw a poster which describes psychoanalysis.

Make sure you include the three methods used in psychoanalysis –slips of the tongue, free association and dream analysis – what are they and how might people benefit from undergoing psychoanalysis………?

Definitions

Copy down the following definitions:

psychoanalysis – Freud’s therapy, designed to help release unconscious thoughts.

free association – a method used by Freud in psychoanalysis where the patient is encouraged to express a flow of consciousness. The process helps to uncover links which can then be interpreted.

Definitionsslip of the tongue – when someone uses the wrong word for something. Freud analysed these slips to help uncover unconscious thoughts.

dream analysis – a method used by Freud to help uncover unconscious thoughts, by analysing dreams and uncovering symbols.
