1.0 Introduction to Bungalow

In this project, we were required to design a 2-story bungalow which consist of the following components:1) 1 master bedroom with attached bathroom2) Minimum 3 bedrooms3) 2 bathrooms4) Kitchen5) Living hall6) Dining area7) 1 store room.

We then had to carry out structural framing and prepare necessary structural drawings for the bungalow. Structural theory is involved in this project which includes force calculation and basic structural proposal. This project is designed to enable us to test our knowledge and understanding of building structure.

3.0. Design Brief

Assumptions on dead loads acting on structure

a) Slab self-weight= 0.15 x 24kN/m3

=3.6kN/m2

b) Brick wall self-weight= Wall thickness x Wall height x Brick wall density= 0.15m x 3m x 19N/m3

= 8.55kN/mc) Primary Beam self-weight

= Beam size x Concrete density= 0.2m x 0.3m x 24kN/m3

= 1.44kN/md) Secondary Beam self-weight

= 0.1m x 0.2m x 24kN/m3

= 0.48kN/me) Column self-weight

= Column size x Concrete Density= 0.225m x 0.225m x 24kN/m3 x 3m= 3.645kN

Assumptions on live loads acting on structure

a) Bedroom :1.5 kN/m2

b) Living room : 4.0 kN/m2

c) Dining room :2.0 kN/m2

d) Kitchen :2.0 kN/m2

e) Corridor :4.0 kN/m2

f) Bathroom :2.0 kN/m2

g) Study Room :1.5 kN/m2

h) Car Porch :2.0 kN/m2

i) Stairs :1.5 kN/m2

j) Family Area :2.0 kN/m2

- All other areas not mentioned above will be assumed as 1.5 kN/m2- Live load for roof is taken as 0.5kN/m2 and 1.0kN/m2 as dead load
