Sunseeker reports $7.5 million profit for 2016

Sunseeker International Holdings Ltd. said it returned to profitability in 2016 with a profit of 6 million pounds, or about $7.5 million, and plans to add 170 new jobs this year. The British boatbuilder said

it delivered five new models in 2016 and saw its order book increase 41 percent by volume year over year. The figures reflect a 36 million-pound (about $45 million) EBITDA profit improvement since 2014, and Sunseeker said they are the result of a significant restructuring and refocusing of its business, as well as substantial investment across new products, improved facilities and people.

DMCA reiterates call for strict safety compliance among floating restaurants

The Maritime Inspection Department of the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) continues to follow-up with all owners of floating restaurants operating in Dubai to strictly adhere and comply with the DMCA’s safety

and high quality operational requirements in light of the increasing maritime traffic in Dubai in order to ensure the enhancement of maritime safety and the efficiency of maritime navigation within Dubai waters. The initiative made by the DMCA’s Maritime Inspection Department, which is responsible for enforcing maritime safety regulations in Dubai, forms part of the Authority’s efforts ensuring that all floating restaurants in Dubai strictly conform with globally recognized standards and international best practices. It also aims to guarantee that all marine crafts observe the highest levels of maritime safety and high quality operational responsibility off Dubai waters at all times.

Icon Yachts unveils project Gotham interiors

Icon Yachts together with Bristow Holmes brokerage firm unveiled 46m

Project Gotham last November. Now the Dutch shipyard has revealed the interiors, created by Ivan Erdevicki. Built by the Dutch shipyard and designed in partnership with ER Yacht Design, she promises to be one of the most iconic yachts of the future. Ivan Erdevicki styled both the exterior and interior, whilst Icon Yachts and Van Oossanen were responsible for the naval architecture. The Gotham Project is able to accommodate 10 guests in 5 cabins, as well as a crew of 10.

ALBWARDY DAMEN delivers landing craft “Qaffay3”AlBwardy Damen in Jadaf has successfully completed

the construction of High Speed Aluminum Landing Craft “Qaffay 3” for H.H Ruler’s Office in Dubai. Designed for 25 knots at a full load, the vessel reached a top speed of 37 knots during her sea trials.

Lars Seistrup, Managing Director of AlBwardy Damen pointed out “The brief for this landing craft was very specific and as such the vessel has been specifically designed for her owners. Completely designed and engineered in-house by AlBwardy Damen engineering department. The outfitting is of a higher standard than normal commercial vessels and the vessel presents beautifully, almost like a yacht. We are very proud to design, build and deliver this vessel to such a prestigious owner.”

The vessel is of environmental friendly design and completely built in Aluminum. With a low draft and capable to carry one truck or two large 4*4 vehicles at a speed of 25

knots, “Qaffay 3” is specifically designed to operate in the coastal and shallow waters of the United Arab Emirates. The design can also be adapted to include an enclosed wheelhouse or an accommodation if needed.

“Qaffay 3” has main dimensions of 21.42mtr length overall, 5.1mtrs breath and 1.8mtrs depth with a total deck carrying capacity of 14 tons. The Vessel is powered by 4 x 350hp Yamaha four stroke outboard engines with a cruising range of 225 Nautical Miles. Design and Construction of the Vessel took 7 months and was completed on schedule.

During sea trials, the vessel achieved a speed of 37 knots, proving the optimized hull lines with minimum resistance forces and high quality construction. The vessel proved very stable at these high speeds much to the appreciation of the Captain and Owners’ Representatives. The Vessel was handed over to the client on 23rd March 2017.

T he passion and culture for boating in UAE is becoming more and more significant, as well as an important profitable business for

the region. Many marina projects are presently under development in UAE and, only in Dubai, there are 1,886 existing operating wet berths and 2,500

upcoming berths planned along Dubai coastline, Dubai offshore artificial islands and Dubai water canal.

To enhance the UAE’s competitive-ness to become one of the globe’s most important maritime hub, the UAE Government is making a significant effort to create a ‘boating-friendly’ country, facilitating the cooperation of different involved Authorities in the maritime licencing. In February 2017, the Federal Transport Author-ity (FTA) and Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) signed an im-

portant agreement in support of the integration of the UAE’s federal and local government entities. As men-tioned in the joint statement, “scope of the agreement is to establish common regulations for promoting the mari-time licensing system according to the highest international standards in order to help reinforcing the status of Dubai and the rest of the UAE among the world’s most prominent maritime and logistical centres”, and “make the country one of the world’s vital mari-time hubs”.

To further promote their partnership, both parties have agreed to jointly organize the procedures and facilitate the registration, licensing and renewing of marine crafts in Dubai by establishing a single window system for maritime licensing handled by DMCA. Moreover, the two sides expressed their commitment to jointly organize relevant conferences and workshops as well as represent the UAE in international and regional conferences to exchange experiences, expertise, and knowledge with global participants.

Although this new procedure is pres-ently applicable only to the Emirate of Dubai, it is a first important step toward the alignment of marine regula-tion of UAE.

Superyachts visiting UAESuperyacht industry is a niche market

and foreign superyachts are more and more attracted by UAE luxury’s destinations, with beautiful coasts and landscape attractions. The Country can become a successful destination stop on the superyacht cruising circuits and, most important, offer in the winter season an alternative wintering homeport to the popular established destinations (Caribbean). Owners and especially Captains will select UAE and Gulf Region as their preferred

wintering homeport only if they will find a “yachting friendly” environment and high-level facilities.

Despite the many marina projects upcoming in Dubai, which include superyachts berths and facilities, there are still important aspects to be solved to improve accessibility of foreign-flagged superyachts to Dubai and the UAE. Rules for navigation permit in UAE very often conflict with residence concessions on yachts. At present, foreign-flagged superyachts are granted to stay 21 days in UAE from the day of their first entry. In case of extension, if the yachts want to cruise in UAE waters, they will need to obtain ‘mission visa’ or ‘UAE resident visa’ for the crew on board, through a process that takes time and originally designed for commercial ships/cargo rather than superyachts, which expect more flexibility.

Furthermore, the permitted length of stay depends on nationality of yacht owners and crew. In Dubai, Dubai Maritime City Authority issues a renewable 90 days cruising permit for visiting foreign-flagged yachts, without necessity to obtain visas for their crew. However, this procedure is not federal and is applicable only to the Emirate of Dubai.

Therefore, yachts will face the same problems if they want to sail out of

the Dubai waters and through the other Emirates. In certain Emirates, yachts needs to go to commercial ports for inward immigration clearance formalities, and foreign-flagged yachts must clear in and out of every Emirate, with different rules and regulations, which is very time consuming and not ‘attractive’ for yachting traffic.

United Arab Emirates and Emirati Riviera

Ideally, in an “Emirati Riviera” within the United Arab Emirates, yachts should be allowed to sail from one marina to another among the Emirates. A designated port agent should carry out the clearance formalities at respective immigration, and, as occurring in most countries, yachts crew should be cleared in on arrival and be given “Crew Shore Pass Cards” by immigration to allow them to go ashore.

Zuccon presents the PY Heritage 45 M project

PY Heritage 45M marks the start of a new collaboration which pays tribute to Gerhard Gilgenast, one of the most important architects to work with Picchiotti Yachts in the past. The layout of the yacht leaves most

of the main deck free to accommodate two tenders (a sailboat and a motor yacht, both of nine meters in length) and two jet skis. Another distinctive feature is the layout of the interior.

The cross-section has been designed with a floor to ceiling height of three meters on the main deck and the extensive use of glass. The designer has worked to recall the classic and elegance of the lines for which Perini Navi and Picchiotti Yachts are renowned, while also incorporating an innovative approach to allocate outdoor areas for water toys.

The outdoor areas become liveable and, when the tenders

are in the water, the bow portion of the main deck becomes a large lounge area that blends in with the interiors and the bow cockpit, creating a unencumbered space dedicated to entertaining guests. The areas reserved for the owner and guests are all on the lower deck. The owner also has a large suite with a private terrace in the stern area.

The eye melting new Lexus Sport Yacht

If you are looking for luxury, Lexus is the one. Designing a luxurious yet sport yacht using the carbon fiber reinforced plastic technology. The fast and fabulous yacht is a joy to look at, the design that proofs why automakers could be leaders in the yachting industry.

The open sport yacht that can accommodate six to eight guests would be amazing for day touring. The design of the Lexus Sport Yacht concept has the upper deck and outer hull seamlessly bonded around the inner structure, each piece a single massive hand-laid composite of two-part polyurethane epoxy resin reinforced with hand-laid woven carbon fiber cloth, a composite material called carbon-fiber reinforced plastic, or CFRP. CFRP is the technology used in the structure of racecars and supercars like the 202 mile per hour (325 kmh) 553 horsepower Lexus LFA, high-performance military and civilian aircraft, competition skis and bicycles, and world-class racing sailboats.

Bulgari Resort and Residences Dubai creates a privileged lifestyle experience

Bulgari Resort and Residences has teamed up with Dubai developer Meraas to create an elite and sophisticated residential experience on a private island by Meraas located at 300 metres off the coast of Dubai. The Bulgari Resort and Residences on Dubai’s Jumeira Bay Island takes the crown of the emirate’s most expensive hotel. It’s expected to open in 2018.

The project consists of 165 apartments, eight penthouses and 15 mansions, includes landscaped private gardens swimming pools and gyms, with a variety of dining and sporting options, like the 50 berths Marina and Bulgari Yacht Club, according to Meraas. Apartments will consist of six free-standing buildings to include one to four bedroom units, while mansions will come with three to six bedrooms. Other Amenities at

the residences will include 24-hour concierge, landscaped gardens, pools, fitness centres and steam rooms and complimentary access and membership to the world’s first Bulgari Marina and Yacht club at the opposite end of the promenade from the hotel.

The project was designed by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners, taking into consideration all life and luxurious aspects to create efficient and open living spaces, with interiors finished to the highest quality. Homes have the view of natural green gardens interspersed with wood terraces, and the pristine sands of the private beaches offering spectacular views in all directions. Bulgari’s executive vice president Silvio Ursini emphasized that room rates will be “by far the highest in the market”.

Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach, offering cruise ship passengers a new and unique destination with “unmatched” tourism experiences. The facility has attracted more regional cruise operators which will play a vital role in further increasing Abu Dhabi’s cruise passenger traffic, which is estimated to grow by 9 % in the 2016-17 season.

Sir Bani Yas is a nature reserve packed with endangered wildlife collected by Abu Dhabi’s late ruler, Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan. It is home to a herd of about 400 Arabian oryx which are extinct in the wild, and there are thousands of gazelles and antelopes plus ostrich, peacocks, deer, giraffes,

hyenas and cheetahs.Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach is the Gulf

region’s only dedicated desert island cruise stopover and was developed in keeping with local culture. It extends over a 1.3 km stretch of land, and has the capacity to double in size to meet future market demands.

The official launch of Sir Bani Yas Cruise Beach coincided with the arrival of the 18-deck vessel, MSC Fantasia, which made Abu Dhabi Cruise terminal its winter-sun home and set sail to Sir Bani Yas with almost 4000 passengers. The beach is expected to attract more than 60,000 passengers from 39 stopover cruise line calls in its first season alone.
