As your newly elected State President, I am
humbled and excited to serve the 6,500 Air-man and Soldiers of the Arizona NationalGuard. It is with great appreciation that I
wish to thank the previous AZ President,MSgt Dave Morgan, for his exceptional lead-ership for the past year and a half. Dave
leaves office having achieved a significantgrowth in membership and having forgedstronger relationships with the Arizona Com-mand Staff, Unit Commanders and Enlisted
Leaders, the National Guard Association of Arizona, and junior enlisted. As your newPresident, I want to continue the legacy thatDave started and expand EANGA’s reach
even further. I believe it’s possible to reachthe goal of 1,500 members (double our cur-rent membership) by the close of 2013.
EANGA’s objective is to represent ArizonaAirman and Soldiers by influencing federaland state politicians to support new legisla-
tion for better benefits. We are also workinghard to communicate with you more and keepyou updated and aware of critical issues. The
Arizona Association also serves the enlistedforce by providing scholarships to our mem-
bers, and by hosting an annual State Confer-ence and other social and morale-buildingactivities. We hope we will be able to pro-
vide enlisted professional development at our State Conference again this year.
As an association, we want to meet your de-mands and support the needs of our diverseenlisted force, but frankly, we need the sup-
port of more than just 10% of the 6,500
Arizona enlisted personnel. Although our membership has increased to approx 650members, this is much less than what we
need to make an impact and get the atten-tion of our National and State congressionalrepresentatives. With potential cuts to the
defense budget being considered, member-ship in professional organizations is moreimportant now than ever before. I encour-age you to write to your elected officials
and let them know what’s important to you!
The Enlisted Association was formed in the1970’s in order to give our enlisted mem-
bers a voice. One year ago, I joinedEANGA just to learn about the issues thatSoldiers and Airman face. At that time Ihad no idea the impact EANGUS has had
on the history of the National Guard and the benefits we sometimes take for granted. Now, I understand the importance of work-
ing to help the organization grow. We havea core group of Arizona members who have
become a synergetic group, full of passion, and working hard for you. If you’re notcurrently a member, please consider becom-
ing a member…and talk to others about joining. With this year coming to an end anda new year beginning, I am excited to move
into the Centennial celebration of Arizonain 2012, and look forward to meeting many
of you. Best wishes to each of you and
your family for the New Year!

The Call 11-9: Guard Empowerment
Act under attack!
Long time champions of the National
Guard, Senator Patrick Leahy andSenator Lindsey Graham, have gar-nered 70 Senators in support of theirGuard Empowerment Bill, S.1025.Two vital aspects of this legislationwill make the Chief of the NationalGuard Bureau (CNGB) a full member
of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) aswell as reestablish the post of theVice-Chief of the NGB at the three-star rank. The bill was offered asamendment SA 1072 to the FY-12NDAA and unanimously passed the
full Senate on Nov 28 th.
Even with 70 United States Senatorssupporting the Leahy amendment,
Senator Jack Reed and Senator JimWebb will offer amendments SA1321 and SA 1201 as second degreeamendments intending to undermine
and gut Senator Leahy’s Empower-ment amendment. This opposition to the CNGB being added to the JCS isnot only against the will of 70 Sena- tors, but also reflects the institutionalbias present against recognizing theproven contributions of the National
Guard.
This is unacceptable and all EANGUSmembers must answer this call. Please take the time to have yourvoice heard by going to http://capwiz.com/eangus/issues/alert/?alertid=57322516 and answer Call11-9. Ask your Senators to voteagainst SA 1321 and SA 1201.
Speak loudly for our National Guardof today and of tomorrow- We Are
Guard! Always Ready, Always There !!
