Attractive Tax Rate Sought; Factor of 1.5 to Spur Growth Brockton is the hub of the Metro South Region (south of Boston). With Brockton’s extensive infrastructure, ample workforce and strategic location it is a natural hub of business. “We want businesses to think of Brockton when contemplating business growth and expansion. We want Brockton to equal value in the minds of decision makers. We want key indicators to all point to Brockton as a place that has everything a business needs to thrive”, said Christopher Cooney, Chamber President and CEO. Among top indicators business people consider, aside from location, infrastructure and workforce, the commer- cial tax rate is perhaps the most obvious. This is particu- larly true when comparing a nearby community or a sim- ilar sized “gateway city”. When combining the com- mercial tax rate with water and sewer rates, a city like Brockton can gain a significant strategic advantage by pricing to attract and retain business. Brockton, with its new water supply and recently renovated waste water treatment plant is poised for growth. In order to achieve growth, Brockton must be deter- mined to attract business. Setting a tax rate of 1.5 is a clear sign, Brockton means business! The Brockton City Council will set tax rates within the next few weeks.
