Introduction

Brian Daubs has maintained membership with the American Veterinary Medical Association for more than a decade. Since 2013, Brian Daubs has provided veterinary services to the Animal Specialty and Emergency Clinic in Rockledge, Florida.

The newly elected president of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Dr. Ted Cohn recently announced his goals for the national nonprofit and its 85,000 members in an interview with Steve Dale’s Pet World, a nationally syndicated program.

Dr. Cohn

Dr. Cohn was quick to point out that only about half of the nation’s pets see a veterinary care provider at least once a year, a dangerous trend that has resulted in an increase of preventable illnesses. He specifically singled out kidney disease in felines as an affliction that can be treated early to significantly extend the life of a cat. Further, he shared a personal story that involved discovering a fatal tumor in a dog that had not been taken to see a veterinarian in more than four years.

Conclusion

Cohn hopes to lead the AVMA in encouraging owners to take their pets to a provider for regular care, thereby reducing the incidence of fatal, yet preventable disease.
