WELCOME

This is my bid document, outlining the plans for Aviemore to host the 2018

Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Aviemore is situated in the north of Scotland close to the city of

Inverness. Under my proposals, the games will be held from the 10th

February 2018 until the 26th of February 2018 with the Paralympic Games

being held the 10th to the 19th of March 2018. Inverness will host the

Opening/Closing ceremonies, as well as the ice hockey and the skating,

Aviemore will host the remaining sports as well as the medal ceremonies.

We have a vision for the Games that we want the world to share. Imagine

a Games which inspire everyone involved to achieve more than they

thought possible. Celebrating the very pinnacle of sporting and personal

achievement.

Our plans for 2014 will create an environment where all athletes who take

part will have the performance of their lives. Our Games will not just be

about the winners on the medal podium; we want everyone to push

themselves to their limits, to achieve the extraordinary.

AVIEMORE

This beautiful part of the Scottish Highlands is totally accessible by road,

rail or air and however far you have to travel, nothing beats the warmth

(Scottish weather permitting!) of a traditional Scottish Highland welcome.

Aviemore and the Cairngorms are entirely accommodating in every sense;

the Scottish Highlands is the place to find adventure and discover that

true perfection really does exist. With some of the best snow holding

records in Scotland, CairnGorm Mountain has all you would expect from a

modern ski area, from lessons and equipment hire to the UK's highest

restaurant and bar. Aviemore offers peace and tranquillity as part of the

package, adventure comes as standard and everything lies at the heart of

the Cairngorms - an area of true Scottish perfection.

INVERNESS

Inverness lies at the mouth of the River Ness, and it is from this that the

city derives its name: Inbhir Nis is Scots Gaelic for "mouth (or confluence)

of the Ness". Inverness is twinned with three other European cities. The

city is home to numerous sporting and cultural groups and events,

including the annual Highland Games and football club Inverness

Caledonian Thistle F.C., who play in the Scottish Premier League as well

as Clachnacuddin F.C. who play in the Highland League. Inverness College

is the hub campus for the UHI Millennium Institute. City status was

granted in 2001.
