At brighterkind we believe in living life to the full. That’s why we

do our upmost to ensure that our residents have access to a varied

programme of activities to deliver the Magic Moments that will

help them love every day.

Our Magic Moments programme also aims to encourage well-being by

concentrating in equal measure on the mind, through mental agility;

the body, through fitness and mobility; and the soul, through

entertainment and personal interests, continued learning and

emotional engagement.

Our Activities Coordinator & Assistants are the people who help make

the Magic happen here at Avery House they are there to provide a

comprehensive activity programme that will be loved by our residents

and their families. Our Activities team Laura, Bea & Debs can always

be spotted because of their pink uniforms and the fact that they are

always having fun! You can see all the exciting activities that we are

Rambling Roses Corner… Dear Fellow Residents,

Once again we enter into a New Year, and as always we are

wondering what it will hold for us.

The best thing we can do is make the year full ourselves, by

keeping our hands, minds and bodies moving as much as we

possibly can. We have so many different activities to choose

from, what with Oomph! Arts and crafts, games, books etc.

Also let’s try to help one another the best we can.

Then when the year draws to a close we will be amazed at what

we have achieved!

Did you know? Katherine of Aragon’s tomb in Peterborough Cathedral

became associated with miracle cures, which attracted the ill

from far and wide.

Until next time…Rambling Rose xx

Photos of the Month!

Wise Words…

Quote of the Month from Resident Volunteer

Bryan Barnes…

“Common sense is not very common.” Voltaire

“A little water never harmed anyone. Too much can

be fatal.” Fred Cave.

“Happiness is not doing what you like. It is liking

what you do!”

“Truth is beauty. Beauty is truth. That is all ye know

on earth and all ye need to know.” John Keats.

“No man is completely useless. He can always serve

as a bad example!”

Meet Brian! (Brian the Snail

as he likes to be called) we

couldn’t just pick one

photo of the month as there

are so many that make us

laugh! Brian you’re a little

ray of sunshine, and make

us all smile, every day, Thank you for being you!

myself I would…

I would like to have my legs back so I can get

out and about and drive my car again.

Question? The most random thing I have ever

done is…

I had a tea party at The Ritz!

Question? My Previous Jobs Included…

Catering, Tupperware Manager and

Hairdressing.

Question? Not a lot of people know this but I am

good at…

Flower Arranging.

Question? Not a lot of people know this but I am

not good at…

January Nature Notes…

January is our main winter month, bitterly cold and grey, the dead of

winter.

But by the end of January, the first signs of new life will appear;

snowdrops pushing through the cold earth and in the field’s newborn

lambs.

But for now, it is only the dead remains of last year that can be seen.

On the trees and in the hedges, dried beech leaves cling on and rattle

in the wind. Beside roads and in ditches, last years seed heads stand

tall-the dried remains of hogweed, cow parsley and teasels.

Elsewhere, animals hibernate or put on thicker coats to withstand the

cold. Highland cattle and Galloways look warm beneath their shaggy

coats.

Happy Retirement to Gwen &

Sue!

January Words…

A smugglers Song

By Rudyard Kipling

If you wake at midnight, and hear a horses feet,

Don’t go drawing back the blind, or looking in the street,

Them that asks no questions isn’t told a lie.

Watch the wall, my darling while the gentlemen go by!

Five an twenty ponies

Trotting through the dark-

Brandy for the Parson, Baccy for the clerk;

Laces for the lady, letters for a spy,

Watch the wall, my darling, while the gentlemen go by!
