Term 1Update
From our Secondary Leader…Mr Roy Webb Term 3 is now complete and for our Year 12 students they will finish their educational journey at Avenues early Term 4. At the same time we begin to welcome our new 2020 students on their orientation visits.
Our new facilities continue to take shape and are still on track to be ready for our Early Years and Primary Years students and families for day one 2020.
All students need to focus next term on completing the year on a positive note and being fully prepared for 2020.
Giancarlo Stanton (USA athlete) had this to say about his high school experience
“High school is what kind of grows you into the person you are. I have
great memories, good and bad, some learning experiences and some
that I'll take with me the rest of my life. “
I wish you all a safe and refreshing break!

PEDAL PRIX 2019
On the 21st and 22nd of September the Pedal Prix team participated in the annual 24 hour Murray Bridge race at Sturt Reserve. The weekend proved to be both a fun and challenging experience. Over the 24 hours the Pedal Prix team was able to complete 334 laps of the 1.7km circuit with the fastest lap time being 2 minutes and 44 seconds. The distance travelled could have reached past the Victorian border or Roxby Downs. We would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication over the year of the students involved in the Pedal Prix team. A big THANK YOU to all the staff and families who came out to show their support for our students. Our team would also like to acknowledge our sponsors High Gloss Solid Plastering, Apex Steel Supplies and Vernocchi Painters who have supported us throughout the year with generous donations. We look forward to Pedal Prix in 2020!
Held each year on the last Friday in October, National Bandanna Day is the major fundraising and awareness
campaign for CANTEEN Australia. McKay Ave students (Years 8 to 12) are invited to wear their house coloured bandanas in the first two weeks of
Term 4 leading up to Friday 25th October, National Bandana Day.
Bandanas in Avenues College House colours will be available for $5 out the front of the Resource Centre, at
lunch times during Week 1 (Wed Thurs & Friday) and Week 2 (Mon & Tues) of Term 4. The house that sells
the most bandanas in their colour will receive 2000 points. The winning House will be announced on the Gym
stage at lunchtime on Friday 25th October.
Ready to go crazy and raise
awareness about cystic fibrosis?
Crazy Hair Day is an annual
fundraising event held in schools
across Australia. Our Reception to
Year 7 students at Beatty Avenue
are invited to ‘GO CRAZY’ with
their hair on Friday October 25th.
For a gold coin donation show your
support for those in our
community who are living with
and affected by Cystic Fibrosis.
On Wednesday 18th September, students at our McKay Ave site celebrated
’HAPPY DAY’ and the contributions that Kickstart for Kids make to our school
community.
Stickers were worn, sausages consumed, music played … smiles all around.
Thanks to Kimberly Walker (Wellbeing Leader) for making all the arrangements.

Love and War
During Term 3, some of our secondary English students attended two live
performances.
The year 9’s watched Bell Shakespeare perform a mash-up of Romeo & Juliet
and Macbeth. They also learnt the features of the language used such as
iambic pentameter and antithesis.
The year 10’s viewed Poetry in Action’s Words of War,
introducing students to famous war poems such as
Disabled by Wilfred Owen by bringing them to life. This
tied in nicely with History this term as students are
studying WWI.

UNIFORM DONATIONS
Have you any uniform items which are in good
condition that do not fit your child any more or
perhaps have been replaced with more
suitable items?? We would like you to
consider donating them to the school for us to
use as ‘loan’ uniforms, when students require
them for unforeseen circumstances.
If you have any items, please deliver them to
the Front Office at either the McKay Ave or Beatty Ave
site, freshly cleaned and ready to wear. Dirty, stained
or damaged items are not suitable. Your cooperation
in this matter is appreciated, as indirectly, you are
supporting other students and families who might
have a short term need to borrow items.
