A fashion manifesto for women with a firm grip on feminin-ity where, black is the singular palette of power. Silhouettes show more body conscious, strong shoulders, cinched waists, echoes of a black tie affair with aspects of tailored tuxedos. Clean lines appear in contrast to layers of texture inblack, black and black adding drama, ele-gance and richness. Beautiful draped blouses with ruffles, flounces and frills add a subdued softness, accompanied by bows, heavy laces and pearl decorations.

Designers like to mix references, styles and codes and have an architectural approach to the construction of clothes. Traditional couture techniques are combined with sharp cutting to obtain a very personal style built-up of con-trasting volumes and proportions. They do not believe in a specific inspiration for a collection. They design modern clothes with a soul and believe in moving ahead with the times and influences. The interplay of shape and fabric, technology combined with ancient handcrafted skills are values intrinsic to all their collections.

MiharayasuhiroMIHARA YASUHIRO’S autumn/winter 2009-10 collection seemingly trod the Silk Road, with models kicking up white dust as they advanced in worn, sunburnt garb inspired by ancient mer-chant travellers. Distressed silk and laddered wool suggested clothes that had been weath-ered on many long journeys, with faded greys, browns and corals providing the colour palette. Jewellery was designed by Marios Schwab’s regular collaborator, Husam el Odeh, and hung like a collection of incidental souvenirs from necks and lapels.
