Welcome to the autumn and winter walks programme!

This booklet includes walks of different lengths and styles -

read the information about the partners involved then

find walks to suit your own interests.

Get Active in The Forest Welcome to a new season of family friendly walks which form part of the

Get Active in The Forest Project to help you get active, stay healthy, enjoy

friendly company and beautiful countryside. In our guide you will find a walk

to suit everyone at all times of year. So get out, get active and discover

some great walks in South Derbyshire and The National Forest.

The walks last between 45 and 60 minutes and are led by trained walk leaders. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring some waterproof clothing.

Environmental Education Project

Please join us for led walks on an environmental, cultural and/or heritage theme. Each walk lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours and is between 1 and 6 miles long—see individual listings. Each walk leader will have interesting anecdotes and places of interest to describe along the route. We also run wildlife events and school visits around the District. Contact us for more information.

There is no need to book (unless stated): just turn

up 5 minutes before the start time

Dogs are not allowed unless they are a support

for someone with a disability

South Derbyshire District Council/Get Active in

the Forest or the walk leader cannot accept

responsibility for any damage, loss or injury which

may occur during the walk, nor cancellation due

to adverse weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Please come prepared for the weather, and

consider bringing something to drink.

Strong shoes/boots with a good grip are essential

The group aims to improve rights of way around Melbourne and neighbouring villages and to promote Melbourne as a ‘Walkers

A walk of heritage interest to visit Grangewood & recent landscape restoration. Half the route is on The National Forest Way. We return via Top Wood and the colliery cottages of Linton Heath. Terrain – field paths & woodland rides

Follow in the footsteps of the Danes, visit an ancient river crossing & Foremark Church where little has changed since its construction. Panoramic views over the Trent Valley too. Terrain – a mix of woodland and field paths.

A circular route to view Dimminsdale snowdrops and return through Calke Abbey estate. Terrain – good surfaced paths

We begin along part of the National Forest Way and then continue to the villages of Caldwell and Linton. Return is via Top Wood. Panoramic views & spring flowers should add interest. Terrain – Woodland rides & field paths.

Saturday 20th February, 2pm Winter Wonderland Walk,

at Rosliston Forestry Centre

Enjoy a brisk walk around Rosliston Forestry Centre, and take in the beautiful scenery on display on a winter’s day. Afterwards, warm up with a hot chocolate in the Bulls Head pub in Rosliston village.

Your little ones will love this Teddy walk. Follow Bertie Bear on his adventures around Maurice Lea Park at Swadlincote. This guided walk takes you through the park, whilst reading the story of Bertie Bear on his trail.
