Every property owner needs to maintain some type of edging to keep their garden and lawn separate. Most

property owners have used wood, plastic, brick, stone or heavy ready-made sections made of pre-cast concrete. Considerable time and effort has to be taken to prepare and lay any of these options evenly and

properly.

There are many problems with these traditional borders, such as wood decay, plastic brittleness,

irregularity, movement and discoloration.

Also, the biggest complaint with traditional edging is their rigid, straight line contour limitations and

blandness of appearance. Garden owners also have to regularly dig and trim these areas to maintain a

Landscape Curb is a continuous custom concrete border extruded from a patented

landscape curb machine creating a very attractive, extremely durable and permanent border between flower beds and lawn.

Step 1 - Preparation

While the concrete is still wet, various techniques and unique Lil’ Bubba

tools are used to add texture, color and natural looking impressions. To prevent cracking from subtle ground movement, control joints are cut

about half way through the edging every three to four feet while the concrete is still wet. In colder climates, the control joints are cut every

two to three feet and a galvanized cable is extruded into the curbing as

it is made. Finally the curb is sealed with UV CurbSeal 350 to protect the colored concrete and retain its lasting beauty for years to come.

Special formed hand trowels matching the mold are used to easily

smooth any imperfections creating a beautiful professional edging.

The concrete mixture is wheel barrowed to the Lil’ Bubba® and

shoveled into the machine to extruded a professional, continuous landscape border.

Concrete Curb Mix is prepared quickly in a Curb Mixer. Sand, cement,

water, CurbFiber, and Colorguard+ are the essential ingredients. The dry consistency of the concrete is very important in that it must have a

“zero slump”. CurbColor is added to the concrete mixture to increase the versatility and beauty of the final product.

Ground preparation is very important in achieving a professional

looking product. A trench, up to two inches deep and nine inches wide, around the landscaping beds is all that is necessary to accommodate the

machine. Ground preparation can be completed using shovels, a sod cutter or trenching machine.

Using the imcomparable Lil’ Bubba® Curb Machine, inexpensive raw materials like sand

and cement are converted into a finished product on site. This unique process means there is no retail middle man. Manufacture and installation occur at the same time for high profits.

Typical Cash Flow Examples

Revenues are generated daily and overhead for the concrete curbing business is relatively low. You do

not need office space or a showroom in order to market your product. Estimates are completed at the customer’s home or place of business. You will need a cell phone and a good voicemail set up. Your

equipment can be stored at your home or storage facility. Once you have completed a job, you collect payment immediately from your customer. The materials you purchased in the morning are paid for in

the afternoon when the customer pays for your work. The key is getting your curbing out there. When

The Patented Lil’ Bubba® EP plunger drive creates a consistent flow of concrete with each revolution.

The unique motion of the plunger scores the concrete as it packs it into the mold (unlike other plungers or ram machines) to prevent “flat spots” and “weak areas” every couple of inches that cause

cracking. The EP drive also eliminates concrete bridging* in the hopper since the plunger actually moves seven inches upward into the hopper, agitating the concrete, with each revolution. Lil’ Bubba®

is designed to create continuous decorative concrete borders and walkways allowing the user to follow

any existing landscape bed design, place borders as close as two inches to any stationary object and make turns with a radius as tight as fourteen inches. The Lil’ Bubba® EP will switch from decorative

borders (curbs) to 24” walkways with just a twist of the four bolts on the front of the machine. There

are no internal changes, upgrades or extra parts necessary. The Lil’ Bubba® EP is also equipped with an up hill ratchet brake, clutch, steering lock and a hopper safety grill.

Most Innovative Contractor’s Choice Patented Operation

The Lil’ Bubba® Auger has similar features to the EP machine with the exception of the patented plunger drive

mechanism. This machine is instead equipped with a 4” auger. The auger drive provides extremely smooth operation but requires a well prepared surface. This machine works best on asphalt or concrete surfaces. The

auger machine was originally designed for installing concrete or ashpalt curb on cart paths in golf courses. This machine is still the most popular auger driven landscape curb machine on the market. Auger machines

have a closed hopper bottom making them more difficult to use in a landscape setting. This machine will not

produce the 24” walkway.

The Lil’ Bubba® TT machine is our economy landscape curber. This machine is based on the older, “track and

trolley” technology. The Lil’ Bubba® TT machine does not contain the patented EP drive mechanism, rather a ram that travels in a back and forth motion only. This machine extrudes curb just as beautiful as the EP

machine; however lacks the power and anti-bridging properties. This machine will not produce the 24” walkway.

If you prefer a sodcutter over a trencher, this machine is

definitely the most user friendly preparation unit for landscape curbing. Light and easy to use, this machine

makes every job easy. Squeeze the throttle and off you go; release it and the sodcutter stops. It’s that simple.

(Keep in mind that when using a sod cutter the resulting

cut sod has to be removed from the area prior to curbing. This additional labor and the resulting need for sod

disposal makes the Trencher the more popular option.)

Curbing Trencher The Honda powered Curbing Trencher is the preferred

tool for landscape curb ground preparation. The 9HP Honda engine provides the power needed to cut a 1”

deep by 9” wide trench in the hardest clays. The steerable wheels make fancy curves and tree rings

easy. Unlike our sod cutter, the Curbing Trencher

mulches everything in its path. The unit then cleans the trench and piles the debris on the flower bed side

of the trench. The debris can then be bagged up or

raked into the flower bed. The Curbing Trencher will

What’s the difference between a curb mixer and a concrete mixer? A curb mixer has rotating paddles to

thoroughly combine the zero slump curb mixture and CurbColor, while a concrete mixer uses a rotating barrel to combine the same mixture and can result in an undesirable balling effect.

drum simplify the clean up process while resisting rust and dents. The

CurbFiber™ is an important additive used to reinforce the concrete; giving it

UV CurbCure 350™ is a very high solids, styrene-acrylic copolymer. This clear, solvent based concrete cure & seal has been developed to protect all col-ored and textured concrete curb. Applied as per directions, UV CurbCure 350™ will achieve a highly protective and long lasting decorative finish and will assist the concrete curbing to attain maximum mix design strength. Most importantly using UV CurbCure 350™ to seal your colored curb at the time of installation (while the concrete is still damp) ensures minimal efflorescence* as it reduces evaporation of water from the surface of the curb as it cures.

*Efflorescence is the “frost” that shows up on the surface of masonry products after they cure.

It is a residue of calcium carbonate (alkaline salts) left on the surface during drying process.

Curb Coat®

Curb Coat® is a highly concentrated colored cement mix in

powder form for use as a “slurry” or “overlay” on freshly extruded concrete landscape curbing. Sand and water are added

to create a “paint like” consistency. The product is then poured over fresh concrete curb and lightly troweled. Curb Coat® is

mostly used as the primary color in a multi-colored stamping

process, using colored release powders and stamp tools to create the additional colors.

Antiquing Powders™

Lil’ Bubba® Antiquing Powders are used to stop

the stamping tools from sticking to the concrete and these powders create a second and third

price point. Such topics as determining pricing, paying employees, and calculating costs are

also covered based on 30 years of practical experience by hundreds of successful installers.

Beginning at 7:30am on a Thursday is the Introductory Curb Installation Class. This is an absolute must for all new Lil’ Bubba®

Curb machine owners and their crew. The one day introductory class includes landscape border layouts and design, operation

of the trencher, Curb Mixer and the Lil' Bubba® EP curb machine including various attachments such as the Cable Feeder.

You will learn how to create the proper sand/cement/water mix ratio for curbing and how

to prepare colored CurbMix using the Lil Bubba® CurbColor pigments and Antiquing

Powders. You will learn how to operate the curb machine to minimize hand work with the

finishing trowels, basic and advanced stamping techniques and how to clean up the jobsite

and equipment. The class also covers important topics such as mix additives and UV

CurbCure 350. The class concludes with the presentation of Lil’ Bubba® Certified Installer

Certificates between 4:00pm and 5:00pm

Beginning on a Friday at 7:30am is our Advanced Moroccan Natural Stone Training. The Moroccan Natural Stone

Series is a complete package of custom tools, additives, marketing flyers and one full day of intensive training (see

Page 20). This will add a whole new dimension to your curbing business and open up extra high profit markets with

very attractive, unique and natural stone-like landscape curbing. Training concludes between 4:00pm and 5:00pm.

Training videos are supplied with all equipment and are quite useful to train on your own; however, there is no substitute for
