WELCOME
In automotive development, the subject of NVH as a unique selling
point is playing a key role as vehicles become increasingly similar
in design. Engineers strive to reduce audible vibrations, i.e. noise,
while at the same time avoiding physically perceivable vibrations. The
application of numerical simulation and testing technologies enables
acoustics to be optimized at an early stage in the product development
process. Today, NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) is becoming increa-
singly important as a means of ensuring that vehicle occupants can
enjoy a driving experience without noise and with enhanced comfort.
The international Automotive Acoustics Conference presents the
current state of technology and shows how acoustics and NVH can
contribute towards the production of even more high-quality vehicles.
On 7 and 8 July 2011 at the ETH Zurich, under the patronage of Profes-
sor Paolo Ermanni, the Conference will bring together experts who are
involved in different points of the development chain, either in indus-
trial R&D or at university research institutes. Speakers and participants
come from research institutes or from OEMs, suppliers, development
service providers, software suppliers, materials science and measuring
and testing technology.
We look forward to interesting discussions in Zurich and to your active
participation.

DELEGATES
This ATZlive conference is addressed to experts working in the acoustics
departments of OEMs, suppliers and development service providers
and to experts researching at universities. They are active in different
parts of the process chain: development, design, experimentation,
calculation and simulation, testing and production.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The Automotive Acoustics Conference deals in different sessions with
the question of how development engineers can further improve the
NVH behavior of cars and trucks. Growing expectations and demands
by the end customer as well as stricter legislation require cars to
be made even quieter and more comfortable. Innovations in body
acoustics simulation and optimization can be seen in improved engine
encapsulation and optimized exterior noise protection. Transfer path
analyses and holistic approaches result in reduced sound propagation
from the powertrain. Statistical energy analysis or numerical simulati-
on enable interior noise, which is influenced by carpets or wind noise,
to be predicted more efficiently and at an earlier stage.
The experts at the Conference will also discuss the NVH behavior of
materials, components and systems. Research work on polymer foams
or load-bearing composites will be presented. The NVH engineers’ fo-
cus will also be on new electrified vehicles. The NVH of these vehicles
can be assessed more objectively with the aid of neural networks and
artificial intelligence. As electric cars are very quiet, there is a need to
find the correct signals to warn blind people in road traffic.
Simultaneous German/English and English/German interpreting will be
provided on both days of the conference. Please find the German ver-
sion of the program at www.ATZlive.de or order a copy by telephone on
+49 (0)611 / 78 78 – 132.
All participants in the conference will receive one of the E-magazines
ATZ- or MTZ-worldwide for two consecutive months free of charge
and without obligation. When registering, please stipulate which
magazine you would like to read.
