Using RFID Technology
IntroductionRFID vehicle access control system with high
identification accuracy, designed to track and
manage vehicles in parking areas or gatedcommunities to allow for accurate vehicletracking as well as easy in-and-out access
fordrivers.
What is RFID?RFID:A technology that uses radio frequency
waves to transfer data between a reader and movable
item for detection, tracking or identification purpose.
RFID is also called Dedicated Short Range
Communication or DSRC.
Components An antenna or coil.
A transponder (RF TAG) electrically programmed
with unique information.
An antenna and transceiver are together called
as an
interrogator or reader.
Host computer and appropriate software.
We can have RNC’s (reader network controller).
Sequence of operation
1. Carrier signals sent by the reader (upon request
from the host application).
2. Carrier signal hits tag(s).
3. Tag receives and modifies carrier signal:
• “sends back” modulated signal.
4. Reader receives & decodes the data.
5. Results sent to the host application for further
processing.
RFID OperationTag
Operation in AVI
RFID readers Reader sends out a wave to the tag which
broadcasts back its stored data to the reader.
The data collected from the tag is uploaded on the computer.
Readers can be: Fixed Hand-held Wireless
Long Range Readers
Long Range readers have high speeddetection technique. The readers can bemounted directly onto metal surfaces
making it ideal for vehicle identification. The stylishdesign makes this reader an eye-catcher forevery entrance.
Long Range Readers
Key Features: Range up to 10metres Speed up to 200kmph Weatherproof Protected Housing Multi-channel frequency offset Highly controlled detection zone
RFID Frequencies
RFID systems are classified on the basis of frequency used: Low Frequency(30-300KHz) High Frequency(3-30MHz) Ultra High Frequency(300MHz-2GHz) Microwave(2-30GHz)
Within a frequency band the actual range will vary
widely because of factors like operating environment,
antenna design,available system power.
Frequency in AVI
AVI technology works at the 2.45GHz frequency band.
Typical qualities are: Highly directional Dense reading area eliminates 'black spots' ID-tags can be read at high speed No need for site license Easy installation
2.45GHz Frequency
Technical features: Frequency hopping(FHSS) IP 65 enclosure SQL database support Flexible Supply Voltage(10-30V DC) CE and FCC approved
RFID TagsIn an RFID system the transponder that contains the
data to be transmitted is called an RF tag.It is the core
of the RF-ID System. Different types of RF tags are:
Active Semi-passive Passive
Mainly Active tags are used
for Vehicle Identification purposes.
Active Tags Key Features:
Communicate via Industry Standard Protocol
IEEE 802.15.4• CSMA for Anti-Collision• Maximum data rate:250Kbps
Operating Voltage: 2-5V Operating Temperature: -10C to 80C Shock and Vibration Resistant 12-bit sensor precision
Active Tags Technical Features:
Active tags have Integrated Antenna • Saves size and cost• Can be read in almost every orientation
Tag Frequency: 2.45GHz Solder Contacts for connecting an externalcontact sensor Wake-up Sensor
• Magnetic Reed Switch• Vibration sensor

Types of Tags
TAGS
Vehicle Based Tags
Driver Based Tags
Vehicle Based Tags
The vehicle based tags are mounted to either
in the windshield of the vehicle or on theexterior of the vehicle itself in order to
identifyit over long range without the need to come to stop.
Types of Tags
Vehicle Based Tags
Compact Tag
Window Button
Window Button Switch
Heavy Duty Tag
Driver Based Tags
Driver Based Tags offer fast and secure vehicle
access for authorized drivers. This ensures that a vehicle
can never get access to a secured area unless occupied
by an authorized Driver. It is made up of: Booster Personnel access Badge
Electronic Product Code
Objective: To provide unique identification of physical
objects. It is of total 95 bits.
Header
0-7 bits
ECP Manag
er8-35 bits
Object Class36-59 bits
Serial Number60-95 bits
EPC Network Architecture
Savant: Middleware software system that links reader
devices and processes the information streams from tags.
Object Naming Service(ONS): It is the glue that links the EPC™ with the
associated data file. ONS system is built on the same technology
used in the Internet’s Domain Name Service(DNS).
Provides a look-up table for translating an unique EPC code into a Uniform Reference Locator.
AdvantagesLong-range identification system facilitates true
hands-free vehicle identification. The system is designed to provide:+ Convenience+ Revenue Enhancement+ Efficiency Improvement+ Automatic Data Collection+ Highly Secure Vehicle Access
Applications Toll Application
Parking Management
