Welcome to the Fair!

If you’ve never been to our little festival, a special hello - we hope you find the weekend as invigorating as we do! We are an affiliation of like-minded individuals from all walks of life who choose to express our artistic tendencies from within the borders of the South Country Fair Association. More of a cost/time-share scheme than an event in the conventional sense, feel free to immerse/submerge yourself in the special & unique qualities only to be found at folk ‘n’ roots festivals -- dance, sing, have fun, but be harmless and take care of each other.

On page 7 there is a list of rules; take the time to read and observe them. Please help us continue the tradition! Don’t forget...

Getting involved with SCF isn’t hard

We like to meet like-minded people to share the matchless beauty that is embodied by the word ‘festival’.

If you want to volunteer or have a special talent you would like to share to help us continue to improve our little fair, talk to April at the Info/Volunteer Lounge.

In exchange for your time, you get a reduced rate on the cost of your ticket and you get to experience a level of conviviality known only to those who take ‘the plunge’ plus you get a snazzy teeshirt in the bargain, not to mention the free volunteer BBQ Thursday evening apres the volunteer orientation, followed by a concert at East Stage, with performances from our Mayor Washboard Hank and Woodpigeon.

If the Fair is already over and this short missive finds you nostalgically thumbing through the, by now, well-worn pages of a SCF program book, you can email our Volunteer Coordinator and set yourself up early for next year - [email protected]!

South Country Fair gratefully acknowledges the financial support we receive for programming from the Government of Canada through the Canadian Heritage Canada Arts Presentation Fund, and indirectly through the participation of Canada Council For The Arts. We also thank the League of

Canadian Poets for their tireless work and finally the people of Alberta for the perennial support we enjoy, designed to benefit all Albertans, from Alberta Lotteries and the Arts Organization Operating Grant through the Alberta Foundation For The Arts.

Alexis Kelly, also known as ARK, published her first chapbook of poetry in the fall 2016 entitled Still Growing. She has been an active poet in the Calgary area for the past two years, competing in the Can You Hear Me Now? Alberta Provincial High School Slam on the Rogue Poets slam team. She has recently been accepted into the University of Lethbridge where she will be attending this fall.

Bad Pop Melodic power punk that somehow doesn’t repeat itself. I know that’s hard to believe but bear with me. Let’s say your friend told you that The Pixies were the greatest band ever, but that it would take you some months to “get it”. Well Bad Pop takes that learning curve and throws it into the front row. They are the type of band that people love to love until the secret gets out - then they just hate to love it whilst hiding out in the back of shows. Bad Pop grew out of a single called, curiously enough, “Bad Pop,” recorded by Hot Banana who then decided to re-brand. This is not Indie Rock for basement dwellers - this is Edmonton Indie right here, dragged out into the light of day. – SAbadpopband.com

Ben Rogers tells his stories in a classic western fashion, but from the side that people don’t always prefer to speak of. Inspired by the dark side of life and the lost souls that wander it. His whiskey-soaked ballads are emphasized by his raspy, smoke-lined delivery. Ben’s latest album The Bloodred Yonder is a snapshot in time

when country was at it’s finest. Daringly steering wide from exhausting stories that have been retold too many times, you’ll see through the other side of the looking glass. Having an older brother in music came in handy when it came to producing. Ben has also been featured in songs by the

Harpoonist & The Axe Murder. More Recently, Ben released the single, Highway of Tears, to which all proceeds go to Battered Women’s Support Services Indigenous Women’s Programs available on Bandcamp @ benrogersmusic.com – CC

Blackfoot Medicine Speaks We are grateful that Blackfoot Medicine Speaks are joining us again this year. They are here, not only to entertain us, but

also provide an educational experience, sharing their culture and connection to the land and their ancestors. They tell their Indigneous stories using First Voice, which is an ownership statement. Interpretation of the Blackfoot culture since colonialism, has often been done by non-Indigenous people, but First Voice requires that the custodians of the culture be heard and respected. We are honoured to provide them with a platform to do so.

Chicken-Like Birds is the combination of Ari Lantela who is known for his refined sloppy blues guitar picking and Jasmin Frederickson, who plays a mean double bass. Together they sing their original country blues and ragtime songs about adventure, independent women, how to cook a mean batch of cornbread and the pair’s strange relationship. Slap in some on-stage antics, a few funny stories and some strangely endearing awkwardness and you’ve got Chicken-Like Birds. Their second year as a duo has seen them opening for blue’s legend Curtis Salgado, playing at festivals and shows throughout Western Canada and putting out a full length album. The Canadian Pacific Blues Society has called their performance a “fantastic, old- school acoustic experience.”

10 11Circus Act Insomniacs These ladies are serious magic – fair- stopping performance which includes aerial performances, choreographed dances, poi displays, juggling extravaganzas, hula hoop spectacles and astonishing acrobatics. These performances communicate to the audience how music and dance are universal forms of communication. By using this form of communication these performers become kinetic storytellers and embrace the space around them and the culture within that space.

Coig This band of East Coast Music Award winners features an electrifying line-up of accomplished musicians – including Darren McMullen, Rachel Davis, Jason Roach, & Chrissy

Crowley. Fiery traditional and contemporary Celtic styled driving tunes, haunting songs and airs with all the infectious energy of Cape Breton. Busy solo schedules make Còig appearances quite rare, so be sure to thank our SCF artistic director Jana Mackenzie for this experience, especially if you aren’t going to be able to make it to Celtic Colours anytime soon! – SAcoig.ca

Copperhead Based in Calgary and formed in 2014, this four-piece folk-soul band has been making waves. Capable of an energetic, full sound or a stripped down and raw delivery, definitely a group to put on your, “to catch list.”

Dana Sipos Originally hailing from Yellowknife, Dana Sipos will inspire you with songwriting that moves you to the bone, reminiscent of far off places. If you listen carefully, you’ll find yourself drawn to the beauty in her voice and the haunting lyrics that leave you breathless.danasipos.com

Eden Middleton is an eighteen year old poet from Calgary, Alberta with an affection for metaphor, musicals and martial arts. She’s been writing stories since she was five, and writing slam poetry for five years after a happy incident signing up for the wrong workshop at Wordsworth Youth Writing Residency. As a poet, Eden has had the privilege of studying under Sheri

D Wilson, Johnny MacRae, Dr. Derek Beaulieu and Paul Zit, amongst others. She has performed at Flywheel, the Single Onion, and the Can You Hear Me Now Provincial slam, and is the reigning Wordsworth Poetry Slam champ. Outside of poetry, Eden is a theatre kid, a martial arts instructor, a queer activist, and a tea enthusiast. She starts her first year at the University of Calgary as an English major in the fall.

Eliza Mary Doyle From being stuck in the music city (Nashville), to being a regional finalist in CBC’s “Searchlight Canada” competition, as well as being a past winner of Bell Media’s contest, The Next Big Thing. You could say that Eliza has had quite the success in the last 15 years and it’s not going to just stop there. This remarkable artist will grab your attention during her performance with her skillful playing and wonderful lyrics. Her voice is unlike any other and will bring you to the stage. – BCelizamarydoyle.com

Em Williamson wasn’t that into poetry until she learned, through spoken word and slam, just how dynamic it could be. She started slamming two years ago, participating in the Can You Hear Me Now? Alberta slam championships, helping her team win the competition and landing herself the award for best individual performance. Since then, she has grown to love poetry in all forms. She has performed at Say Word, the Inkspot, Woolf’s Voices, Raw Voices and the Single Onion, and coaches her own team every year at the Can You Hear Me Now? finals. She started her poetry journey out with comedy, but she is now expanding her horizons to include every genre she can manage to conquer, including poems that are just plain weird.

Entangados might be one of Argentina’s most unique and exciting bands. Combining ska, rock, cumbia, salsa and Balkan folk music. Artistically,

in each of their functions, they seek to bring the state of happiness to the spectator who is active and connected through laughter, play, music and dance. Powerful catalysts to create a dance party!https://soundcloud.com/entangados

Gordie Tentrees & Jaxon Haldane If hipsters were to start selling artisanal moonshine at the Farmers’ Market, it would be the distillery equivalent of Gordie Tentrees & Jaxon Haldane. These two will play anything that has a string,

Page 7: Autographs . . . Inside - southcountryfair.comsouthcountryfair.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/SCF2017Program... · guitar picking and Jasmin Frederickson, ... Fiery traditional and

or so it seems - with a straightforward storytell (EDIT: I just made up a word, I think) that grows, stunted and slowly, from places where it’s usually too cold to go outside. These are strangely personal songs that seem to tell stories about ones we love, have loved, or wish we had and still might. This is a must - it may change your life. – SAtentrees.ca jaxonhaldane.bandcamp.com

Joe Joe Nolan & The Dogs While it’s not every day that a songwriter makes it from the shadows of open mic nights to the high wattage, real deal scene, Joe Nolan’s old soul lyrics and striking vocals suggest that the odds of breaking through are in his favour. Joe’s

distinctive and intimate vocals stack the deck. From theramin tremors to raw howls, his range of expression reaches extremes. He delivers bandaged fragility and raw rage with equal impact. The songs are fervent, pressing and intense, attuned to the world of youthful melodramas in which Joe, an artist in his early 20s lives, and an older, deeper level of human experience. With his band of all-star heavy hitters backing him there is no stopping, or denying this emerging Edmonton-based musician/songwriter.joenolanmusic.com

The Johnny McCuaig Band How would one describe the music? It’s not Celtic. It’s not Pop. It’s not Alternative. It’s everything brilliant. To truly get the full Johnny McCuaig Band experience, you HAVE to see them live onstage. Long time SCF goers will attest to this. Patiently waiting for the return of a stage show extraordinaire (without the rain this time please), makes this a wish come true for some. – SAthejohnnymccuaigband.com

12 13John Williamson has been writing for most of his life and, after needing forty years or so to work up the courage, has been performing on the Calgary Spoken Word scene for about two and a half years. He has performed on open mics and as a featured artist at venues, including Can You Hear Me Now, The Ink Spot Collective, Say Word, Expressions, and YYC Speak as well as presenting poetry as research at the Canadian Disability Studies association conference and the Canadian Hermeneutic (Philosophy) Institute. He is the executive for the Can You Hear Me Now provincial youth slam and recently earned a spot to compete at nationals with the rest of the Ink Spot Collective’s Calgary slam team. His specialties are satire and all things that are awkward. To get a sample of John’s writing in another genre please see his serialized novel in the Journal of Applied Hermeneutics.

Junkman’s Quire parle français aussi et est capable de faire des prestations dans les deux langues officielles! A six-piece line-up from Lethbridge, AB, JQ boasts a unique blend of influences. Equally comfortable with driving twin-fiddle and cello, Celtic traditional tunes, sax-powered jazz and rocking originals, The Quire has a sound you really won’t hear anywhere else. Junkman’s Quire make music that is beautifully paired with summertime sunshine and encourages the audience to get out of their chairs and shake it. George Fowler (guitar, cello, balalaika, vocals) won SCF’s songwriting competition in 2013 and placed second in 2017!junkmansquire.com

Justin Lacroix is a bilingual singer-song writer and when accompanied by his bandmates Joël Perrault (guitar), Joel Couture (bass) and Ivan Burke (drums), they deliver a genuinely great live performance. Solo or not, the music is a mix of folk, rock and blues tunes of highs and lows.justinlacroix.com

Kitty & The Rooster is a rock n’ roll duo from Vancouver, BC featuring Jodie Ponto banging on the cocktail kit and East Van guitar wizard Noah Walker (previously performed at SCF with acts such as C.R. Avery, Steve Brockly Band, and The Broken Mirrors). This gruesome twosome are known for their surf-tastic hooks, clever lyrics, and ridiculously fun shows. The bio may be short but the performance says it all. Don’t miss this wild and crazy display of hilarious, witty, and undeniably edgy musical indulgence!

Campfire Jam!After the South Stage closes on Friday & Saturday night the hosted jam session will again take place continuing the magic of the evening for those who want it. So come hither from out of the woodwork all ye musicians, bearing harps of all manner, harmonicas, shakers and voices into the The Firelight - share your sounds with good people who want to enter and be entered into by someone else’s stories and sounds.

Gaven Moore is an artist, actor, and musician who lives with his wife and kids just up the road in Claresholm. No stranger to acoustic campfire sing-alongs) He looks forward to keeping the music going on towards

the dawn, and (if it’s too late and you don’t catch him there by the campfire, Gav also has a major role in a one act comedy playing at the Empress Theatre Fri at 7pm and Sat at 1pm and 7pm.

14 15Lindsay Beaver & the 24th Street Wailers Lindsay Beaver and her band carry the straight-ahead rockabilly torch with ease... brash and sassy but savvy to the jazz it is cut with. The 24th Street Wailers chug along with all the weight of a B-Train led by Lindsay’s pure, line voltage vocals. But they can turn on a dime too, suddenly wheeling down some secondary road that isn’t even on the map. To say Lindsay’s voice packs a punch would be an understatement – her performances

are peppered with head-turning vitality and spunk shot full of spontaneous, infectious joie de vie. This band is bound to make your feet want dance their faces off!lindsaybeaver.com

Mariel Buckley Few performers combine the lyrical heartfelt authenticity of classic country music with a steely eyed intensity that compels an audience’s attention

like Calgary, Alberta’s Mariel Buckley. Amidst a sea of neon-Nashville superstars, Buckley offers a crunchy, roots alternative. An emerging live performer, with appearances at the Calgary Folk Music Festival and its winter subsidiary (Block Heater) Buckley deftly matches her stark and haunting narratives of real-life struggle with a brassy wit that sets her apart from her contemporaries. Currently post production for her sophomore album Driving In The Dark with producer Leeroy Stagger, Mariel’s skills as a singer-songwriter and performer continue to impress new listeners while her long-time supporters look on with an assured understanding that they knew the depth of her talents from the beginning. marielbuckley.com

Micheline Maylor is the 2016 – 2018 Calgary Poet Laureate. Her newest collection, Little Wildheart, was recently short-listed for the Robert Kroetsch award for experimental poetry and deals with the question: What does it mean to be human? It is due for release in spring 2017. A certified poetry fanatic, she teaches creative writing, poetry, fiction, non-fiction and composition at Mount Royal University where she won the Teaching Excellence Award in 2015. Her poetry has been published in over 85 journals in five countries. Her latest works can be found in Partisan, The Literary Review of Canada, and she is a regular poetry reviewer at Quill and Quire.

KIDS’ ROCK CAMP V 2.0 In 2016, with the help of Chinook Financial, we launched an outreach we dubbed KIDS’ ROCK CAMP -- a week long, hands-on, collaborative workshop for children 8-16 years of age. Friday at the head of The Fair the fledgling bands that were formed presented their very own songs to us to open SCF #30, to wild applause – this year the plan is for more of the same!

Facilitated once again by seasoned performer/musicians Kris Demeanor and Sherry-Lee Herschel and joined this year by Lethbridge chanteuse and SCF veteran Shaela Miller. By the time you read this they will have nurtured and guided seventeen emerging artists through the process of creating, arranging and performing their own original works.

Be up front Friday at 5:15pm to witness the first steps of the next generation of Canadian festival artists, and who knows... maybe even Juno winners!

16 17Munya Mataruse finds the inspiration in those every day experiences for his music. He also uses his music to take a critical stance on social and cultural issues while maintaining his African values. Mataruse is travelling from Edmonton, Alberta to share his experiences, thoughts and express his values.

Sam Tudor grew up at a forest research station, developing an affinity for both plants and outdated technology. He wrote songs

throughout his childhood, and his last album The Modern New Year, has become a staple of campus radio stations across Canada. Now living in Vancouver, Sam performs with Tegan Wahlgren, Jasper Wrinch, Craig Aalders and his brother Harry Tudor. The idiosyncratic approach of each instrumentalist - in combination with Sam’s unique songwriting - has turned the once quiet acoustic project into a psychedelic folk experience. The live show is communal, intense, kind of weird and also “poignant as hell” (Discorder Magazine). Think Sheryl Crow meets Elliot Smith meets Chad Vangaalen. And there you have it.

Scott Nolan The songwriter’s songwriter, Scott has had more experience in music than many will ever get. Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Treaty One Territory he is a multi-talented, multi-instrument musician, singer and songwriter. Also he has recently produced albums for Lynne Hanson, Watermelon Slim and William Prince. Hopefully, no coincidence that William will be at the fair as well this year! Some of Nolan’s music seems to be a carefully constructed work of art that stands proud on two feet and some must have randomly formed by some stroke of coincidence. Either way, emotion is sewn deep within all of his works and you’ll find it hard to listen without feeling it. – CCscottnolan.ca

Slocan Ramblers Since releasing Coffee Creek in 2015 it’s been nothing but onward and upward for these roots based musical brainiacs. Frank Evans, Darryl Poulsen, Adrian

Gross and Alastair Whitehead are serving up an energetic style of bluegrass that will take your toes for a ride. These gents have both a respect for traditional bluegrass music and the genius to take it where it rarely wades. In 2015 after wowing everyone within earshot they received the “Emerging Artist Award” at the Edmonton Folk Festival. If you’re wondering, they are named after the Slocan mines in B.C., a word that belongs to Sinixt First Nations meaning “to strike or pierce on the head”, a rather popular word given their ancient practice of harpooning salmon. If you were to close your eyes and block out the crowd it would be easy to picture yourself in one of those silvery Slocan mining towns living on the edge of the silver rush, and tapping along with the rhythm of the Slocan Ramblers – CCslocanramblers.com

Spencer Murray & Pipeslinger Make no mistake, this Celtic all-star lineup is a foot-stomper fit for a proper scuff around the kitchen. Spencer Murray already has quite the collection of awards and accolades but it’s not the technical prowess that draws his crowds. Irish flutes, bagpipes, and tin whistles all get their turns as Pipeslinger ploughs through reels as old as your grandmother’s boot then spins you on your heel just as you’re about to sit back down. Jigs infused with enough jazz to cross over provide ample cushion to flesh out the sets and give the dancer a chance to (possibly) grab a breath or two before the next lift. I dare you to try and remain seated for this.– SAspencermurray.com

18 19 Tyler Perry Calgary poet Tyler B. Perry is known for his visceral imagery, unflinching gaze and darkly comic take on the pain, fear and small triumphs of everyday living. His first collection, Lessons in Falling (2010 B House Publications) is based on his experiences as a junior high teacher. In his latest collection of thematically linked poems, Belly Full of Rocks (Oolichan Books, 2016), Perry picks up where the Brothers Grimm left off. In it, Perry explores the stories of fairy tale characters as their lives unravel past the thresholds of their happily ever afters, their cautionary endings, and their sometimes viciously delivered justice. His poems have also appeared in Canadian literary magazines such as Arc, Descant, The Prairie Journal, NoD, Labor: Studies in working class history, and Grain. Perry was the captain of the Calgary poetry slam team, and has travelled as far as Japan to perform his work. He is now one of the lead organizers of the Alberta provincial youth poetry slam competition, Can You Hear Me Now.

Viper Central displays virtuosic chops on fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo and dobro, ripping through

classic and original bluegrass pieces at barn-burning tempos. But perhaps the thing that makes this band the most unique and exciting is how far they’re able to wander from their home as a bluegrass band, turning the genre on its ear, while remaining true to their roots as such. The spirit that emerges from their latest album is as strong, unusual, original, and self-assured as the figures it celebrates in its songs. This spirit is reflected as much in the brilliant performances by band members, guests (John Reischman, Miles Black, John Raham), instrumentation, arrangements, and vocal harmonies, as it is in the songwriting itself. vipercentral.ca

William Prince William writes about love, fighting and the adventures of his friends—but he doesn’t want to put out the same old song and dance. Come be a part of the story, the song, the dance, the difference. 2016 Western Canadian Music Award winner for Aboriginal Artist of the Year! 2015 “ The Carny” is the Number 1 song on the National Aboriginal Music Countdown. Prince’s most recent album was produced by Scott Nolan, (who is also performing this year). William is a Singer - Songwriter from Winnipeg. – SAwilliamprincemusic.com

PETER G's TECHNICOLOUR DREAM QUILT

Last year a group of friends who have been meeting for years for coffee on Sundays with our dear friend Pete – eventually and with much ceremony and ado I'm sure, dubbed The Church Of

Immaculate Misconception – decided to collect tee-shirts from past Fairs to fashion into a quilt for Pete to keep him toasty on those winter mornings when he was out and about and on his way to and from communion. Jack Burger and his partner Debbie Neitch took it upon themselves to collect enough shirts and though Pete didn’t quite get to use it needless to say a lovely work it is. The quilt has since been passed on to us for safe keeping, as a relic of sorts... although we are not, as Keepers Of The True Quilt, authorized to sell small bits of it for obvious reasons, Jack has taken time to render some of Pete's poster images into clocks, so we may be mindful of

the Important Things, and the current time of course. The quilt is on display in the Volunteer Lounge, and sample clocks are also on-site and available for purchase by pre-order at the Merch Tent.

P. CIGAR TREEJanuary 8, 1955 – May 6, 2017

Back when the Fair was young we all carried many loads, and so did our friend Pete Craig. In the spirit of friendship and solidarity he was willing as were we, to do whatever it took to allow us crazy diamonds to be able to sit in the dark and listen to weird music together. On top of everything else Pete contributed his beautiful mind,

bending it gently to the rhythms of the newly-minted, fledgling South Country Fair -- many a graphic was not only conceptualized and consummated but then painstakingly rendered into posters and garments by hand, one at a time. Also known as The Artist Formerly Known As Peter G. he would don sunglasses and the volunteer shirt of la saison to feign incognito stardom and open our wee festival with a single G chord, always played on a stranger’s guitar. To know him was to love him. Even after falling ill and suffering the devastation of multiple sclerosis his spirit remained here with us while his racked body was elsewhere. Pete’s energy and sense of humour carry on, imbedded into the heartwood of SCF. Feel that peculiar buzzing, warm fuzziness? It wants to rise in you too. May the fifth be with you!

THE APOLITICAL BLUES“It’s the meanest blues of all.” – Lowell George We would like to take this space to formally apologize for our decision last year to use a tipi as the base for our anniversary patchwork project without appropriate permission and recognition of its indigenous symbolism. There has been a great deal of conversation and contemplation that has occurred within our core group of volunteers since last summer and we have taken this error in judgment as an opportunity to learn more about who we are and how we project our organization to others. This is even more relevant in the context of the growing dialogue regarding cultural appropriation nationally.

We fully recognize that our knitted tipi project was executed inappropriately and we apologize to our Kainai and Peigan neighbours.

A key mistake we made was

taking the same stance we always have because of our local climate – which was to keep doing what we do and being who we are, but to keep our heads low to avoid the criticism we were routinely targeted because of our inclusive world view and cultural curiosity, and the playful nature with which we chose to express ourselves, especially in the early years of SCF. But the times have changed and so has how our festival is viewed and regarded by the public in general. Things remain which need to be said at this late juncture, things that have really needed standing up for all along.

We meant no disrespect, but it remains that at SCF #30 we appropriated from a culture whose practices, symbols and languages have been subject to legalized oppression until very recently, and are still subject to daily discrimination in far too many contexts. In doing this we created a misconception that there is a level-playing field in racial relations within society today. We must remind ourselves that a free exchange of practices and cultural markers cannot exist when one group has more privilege than another.

If you’re reading this and would like further conversation please ask at our volunteer lounge.

Strawberry Rhubarb CrispFor the filling:1 16 oz package of strawberries sliced2 stalks rhubarb sliced thin1/2 cup water1/4 cup maple syrup Juice from 1/2 a lemon1 tsp lemon zest1/4 tsp sea salt 2 T chia seeds

For the crumble topping:1 1/2 cup gluten free rolled oats2 T coconut oil 2 T maple syrup 1/2 tsp almond extract 1/2 tsp c innamon

1. In medium sized saucepan , add the sliced strawberries, sliced rhubarb, water, maple syrup, lemon juice, lemon zest and sea salt. Bring to a boil and then turn down to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the rhubarb looks softened. Mine took about 10 minutes.

2. Once that mixture is softened, add the chia seeds and stir well. Take a taste. If it’s too tart for you, you can always add a little more maple syrup. Set aside for 15-20 minutes.

3. Preheat oven to 350.

4. In a food processor , combine all the crumble topping ingredients and pulse a couple times until everything comes together.

5. Add the fruit mixture to a greased baking dish. I used an 8x8 glass dish .

6. Sprinkle the crumble topping on top of the fruit.

7. Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until the topping looks golden in color.

Notes

Store this strawberry rhubarb crisp in the fridge. It should keep for at least a week. I highly suggest warming it up and adding a little ice cream. I think it would be awesome with my strawberry ice cream. Enjoy!

The Umpteenth Annual and Ongoing In Perpetuity

Name That Camp Dealie-O

Continuing into the Future as it always has, however we have taken the competition part out. So if you would, make and put up a camp sign, be creative! Deck your camp and yourself out if you want... because you get to be who you are here.

How to get ‘er done:

Step 1: Name your camp (as blank signs defeat the purpose)

Step 2: Create your camp’s sign

Sounds simple, but the sign doesn’t have to be. In fact we’re looking for anything other than ordinary.

We will do our best to catch everybody with a token of recognition and appreciation, in the spirit of the first ever one way back -- could be hack saw blades, or Ragu sauce. Or sardines, or motel soap, or gum, or jiffy pop. Who knows?
