Dear Graduands,

A childhood song, “The Wheels of the Bus” kept playing over and over

in my mind as I reflected on your theme, “Success is a journey, not a des-

tination”. I saw images of the ‘bus’ chugging through the town to the

beat of lyrics that tell a happy tale of unitive experience between

transport and travellers. The wheels, doors, motor, wipers, signals and

horn worked together to create a safe experience for the passengers. The

bus driver worked to secure a comfortable environment for the passen-

gers, and the parents worked to restore peacefulness to their baby.

As you pause today to reflect on the past and plan the future route,

graduands, I urge you, if you want success, take up this stance of mutual

service every day of your lives no matter where the journey takes you.

This is possible when you focus on the NOW and call on the Lord. Re-

member:

When rough terrain threatens your safety, rev the engine, settle the

wheels, shut the door and ask the Lord to save all.

When stormy weather blinds your view, swish those wipers, honk that

horn and click those signals and ask the Lord to guide all.

When crotchety fellow-travellers disturb the peace, silence the rebuff,

cover all with loving words and ask the Lord to love all.

Dear Graduands,

The journey through life allows you to gain experiences that will mould you

into the person you are destined to become. Your journey brought you to

this institution where you have continued to grow and develop. As you step

onto the platform of another stage in your life’s journey remember your

possibilities are limitless once you continue to believe that success is a jour-

ney not a destination.

Congratulations graduands on a job well done.

Give to us open minds, O God, minds ready to receive and to wel-

come such new light of knowledge as it is your will to reveal. Let

not the past ever be so dear to us as to set a limit to the future.

Give us the courage necessary to live our lives as they should be

lived – in our families, among our friends, and in our professions.

Help us to overcome all temptations we may meet on the way.

May our choices in life be always those which please you, O God.

Grant that we may be the consolation and pride of our parents,

teachers and country. May we all be faithful to you, O God, and

may we all here present today be with you for all eternity. Amen.
