Autobiography

by

Chen Yi-Husan (陳怡萱陳怡萱陳怡萱陳怡萱)

I, Chen Yi-Husan, was born in Fengyuan (豐原),“the plain of plenty” in

Taichung, Taiwan. I have received most of my education in Taichung. There are four

people in my family, including my parents, younger sister, and me. My father works

as a structural engineer whereas my mother is a housewife. My family have always

been my good companions in joy and in sorrow. Materially we are not very rich, but

spiritually we are.

I like to be with people. I believe everyone has their own potentials and styles for

me to learn and follow. Helping people is my value to live by. When I was a freshman,

I volunteered to feed foods for the disables in Huei Ming (惠明) School as my service.

The people there are with multiple disabilities but they are all simple-hearted. This

experience have made me realize how blessed I am, and cherish what I have. It has

made me decide to assist people and help them to live better lives.

I was admitted to Providence University in 2004 with a major of English

Language, Literature and Linguistics. During these years of acquiring language

learning and Teaching Program, I’ve made good academic records and I am trained

broadly on the application of English and Japanese as well as basic computer skills

such as MS Words, Excel, and PowerPoint. Before entering Providence University, I

studied in Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology, where I was

responsible for the finance and art decorations.

As for the certificates in English abilities, I passed the Intermediate level of

GEPT (General English Proficiency Test) and TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test).

Regarding the extra-curriculum activities in the school, I participated in Skit (stage

play) contests in school. In addition, I was a volunteer of a study project of Taichung

Folklore Park in 200, and attended the 21st International Conference on English and

Teaching and Learning in Chaoyang (朝陽) University of Technology, Taichung in

2004. I have been a volunteer teacher in elementary schools for almost three years. My

working experience was also related to English teaching. I have been the tutor of

elementary and middle high school students since I was a university student. Due to

these experiences, I met many kinds of teachers and students and also learned a lot

from them. I have found what to do to improve myself, understood how to handle

things in mature ways, and realized how to be more considerate to others.

Through these various kinds of extra-curriculum activities, I not only have

improved my English abilities but also have expanded my views and enriched my

experience. As an English major, I have realized the cultural diversities of the Western

and the Eastern. I have broadened my views and understood different cultures. I have

the honor as a student in the Department of English Language, Literature and

Linguistics at Providence University so that I can learn and acquire more about foreign

languages and teaching programs. I expected myself to become a professional teacher

in the foreign languages field

I am enthusiastic, responsible and experienced. Also I’m willing to learn. I

like to do things in efficient and effective ways. Whenever I am assigned a task, I

always accomplish it as soon as possible. Because I understand how priceless time is, I

seldom put off what I can do today till tomorrow. And these positive personalities are

suitable for working at your schools. To sum up, according to these reasons that you

may consider I am qualified to be an English teacher in your school. I sincerely hope

that you can consider me to be one of your faculties.
