People: Nepalese are friendly & hospitable people. It has a population of around 26 Million people made up of various races and tribes. There are more than 40 different races and tribes in Nepal. Food: The main staple diet of most Nepali people is Dal, Bhat and Tarkari – translated as Lentils, Rice and Curried vegetable. A meal of those three is generally eaten twice a day. Arts & Crafts: Nepal is rich in traditional art, craft and architecture. Nepalese art and craft has been strongly influenced by religious beliefs of the country. The art work is decorative, delicate and beautiful. The most typical forms of art are paintings and sculptures of Nepalese artists. The handmade Buddhists crafts, thankas and metal and wooden crafts are important part of the Nepalese architecture. Architecture: Nepalese architecture can be classified into Pagoda Style - style of having more than one roofs with a broader base and gradually narrowing tops (Pashupatinath Temple); Stupa Style - style of architecture having a broad base and gradually tempering upwards (Swayambhu Nath & Boudnath) and Shikhar Style - They are broader at the lower portion and becomes narrower at the top (Mahaboudha Temple, Kathmandu). Living Culture: The festivals of Nepal have their roots in Hinduism as 82% of the population of the country is Hindu. Buddhism, the second-largest religion of the nation which accounts for 9% of the population, has influenced the cultural festivals of Nepal. Dashain or Dusshera is the longest and the most important festival of Nepal.

GETTING TO NEPAL By Air: Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International is the only International operational airport in Nepal. It is connected by flights from all over the world via the 30 international airlines that operate there. All the major carriers including Air India, Jet Airways, Indigo, SpiceJet and many more fly to Kathmandu. Domestically the airport is also connected by airlines such as Buddha Air, Nepal Airlines, Yeti Airlines and many more. By Road: All visitors coming to Nepal from India by land must enter only through one of these points (i) Kakarbhitta (ii) Birgunj (iii) Belhiya, Bhairahawa (iv) Nepalgunj (v) Dhangadi (vi) Mahendranagar. The overland tourists entering the country with their vehicles must possess an international carnet or complete customs formalities. A Carnet is an international customs and temporary export-import document. It is used to clear customs in 87 countries and territories without paying duties and import taxes on merchandise that will be re-exported within 12 months. By Rail: There is no rail line to reach Kathmandu. However, there’s a train originating from Jainagar, India to Janakpur, Nepal. From Janakpur, it’s a 6 hours’ drive to the city. Alternatively, one can also take a train to Raxaul (Border Town in the state of Bihar and the c losest railway station to travel to Nepal). From here one can go to Kathmandu via Birgunj which is around 8 hours drive.

IMMIGRATION FORMALITIES FOR INDIAN TOURIST

A valid Indian Passport or an Election ID is the only valid document for adults to enter Nepal if flying to Kathmandu. For Children below the age of 18 years the school or college ID together with Birth Certificate suffices. The ID should clearly reflect the travelers picture, school or college name, date of birth and class in which the student is studying.

SIGHTSEEING PLACES IN NEPAL

Kathmandu (Altitude: 1,400 Metres): Kathmandu is the capital and the oldest metropolitan city of Nepal. Inspite of being metropolitan city, inhabitants of the city have retained the traditional culture, rituals, festivals, food, and of course the architecture. Ancient temples in a medieval atmosphere sit side by side with Internet cafes. Surrounded by hills on all sides it is connected by roads and by air. It is the home only international airport in Nepal. The city boasts of luxury hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and casinos. Swayambhunath Stupa: Swayambhunath, located on a small hillock offering fantastic view of Kathmandu city. It lies about 4 km west of Kathmandu city center and is one of the most recognizable symbols in Nepal. It is a World Heritage Site and the golden spire of the 5th-century (Swayambhu stupa) is adorned with a colourful fluttering of prayer flags. On each of the four sides of the main stupa there is a pair of big eyes watching those who ascend the stone steps. These eyes are symbolic of God’s all-seeing perspective. Boudhanath Stupa: Located at a distance of about 6 km from the Kathmandu city, Boudhanath Stupa is one of the most important pilgrims for Buddhist and is also a World Heritage Site. It is the biggest stupa in the Valley and is well known as Khasti. The Stupa is 100 meters in diameter and was built on an octagonal base. The stupa rises to 36 meters above the base including the spire, “all seeing eyes” and the pinnacle represents the stages of enlightenment, symbol of royalty, compassion, knowing and nirvana. Pashupatinath Temple: Pashupatinath Temple, located on the banks of the Bagmati River 5 kilometres north-east of Kathmandu Valley in the eastern city of Kathmandu the capital of Nepal, is considered as one of the most important pilgrimages sites for Hindu devotees all around the world. According to the Hindu religion, Pashupatinath is considered as the protector of the universe, savior of all human beings and is the patron deity of Nepali people. Literarily Pashupatinath means Lord of all the Living things. The sacred temple has been part of UNESCO's world heritage site since 1979. Thamel: Thamel has been the centre of the tourist industry in Kathmandu for over four decades. Generally, all the tourist coming to Nepal visit Thamel. This area has number of hotels ranging from budget to luxury and restaurants. The environment becomes really romantic in the evening with lights, the movements of tourist on the road from various countries gives it a look of tourist town. There are many shops selling antique items in Thamel for example, thangka, music, tea, organic coffee, sculpture, paintings, souvenir items etc.

Short Excursions from Kathmandu: Patan: Patan is situated on the southern bank of the holy river Bagmati (a tributary of the Ganges) some 5 Kms and 15 minutes’ drive southeast of Kathmandu. The ancient name of Patan is Lalitpur, meaning city of beauty. Lalitpur, the city of beauty is separated from Kathmandu only by the Bagmati River and is the second largest town in the valley. The town dotted with artistic Temples, Monasteries, Stupas, Pagodas and other religious sites has become an important destination for the tourists. Its most photogenic center of attraction is its Durbar Square complex, situated right in the middle of the market place and is one of the bst architecture sites of Nepal. This whole square is a cluster of fine pagoda temples and stone statues; it is at the same time the business hub of the city. At every step one comes across a piece of art or an image of a deity, testifying to the consummate skill of Patan's anonymous artists. Bhaktapur: Situated at an altitude of 1,401 m, Bhaktapur or "the City of Devotees" covers an area of four square miles. The city lies about 14 km east of Kathmandu on the way to Nagarkot. Popular for its religious, culture and historical heritage, Bhaktapur is also known as Bhadgaon. It has a cluster of temples, pagodas, monuments, courtyard, squares. traditional houses, artistic stones, taps, Buddhist shrines and monasteries built in different times of the history. Nagarkot: Nagarkot, located about 35 Kilometers east of Kathmandu and 20 km from Bhaktapur, is one of the most scenic spots in Bhaktapur district and is renowned for its spectacular sunrise view of the Himalaya when the weather is clear. It has become famous as one of the best spots to view Mount Everest as well as other snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan range of eastern Nepal like the Langtang range. The Nagarkot View Tower is a magnet for nature lovers who reach there to capture the scenes of rising sun in the morning and when it is setting in the evening. Pokhara (Altitude: 827 Metres): Pokhara valley is one of the most picturesque destinations of Nepal. It is Nepal's tourism capital and the second largest tourist destination after Kathmandu. It is also adventure capital of Nepal. The beauty of Pokhara with the mountains in the vicinity is enhanced by its lovely lakes. It is not a historical or heritage site but it is a land of natural beauty with lakes and mountains. With its soothing climate, the balmy atmosphere of a resort town and the raw beauty of an exotic, untouched landscape, Pokhara offers an unusually blissful break away from the frenzied pace of city life. It is most famous for its natural beauty and close view of Himalayas. Seti’s Gorge: Seti River originates from beautiful mountain, the Machhapuchre. The water is milky white and cool. The river before entering into the Pokhara city disappears into a narrow natural tunnel and appeares in some places. Its width is hardly 2 meters and the depth is more than 20 meters but one can not see the bottom of the river. Mahendra Pul (bridge) is the right pace to view the dreadful rush of the river through a narrow gorge.

Devi’s Fall: This is the famous waterfall of Pokhara called Devi's Fall. Water coming from Phewa lake vanishes into the earth at the Devi's Fall. Locally known as Patale Chhango, it is an attractive waterfall lying about 2 km south-west of Pokhara valley. Patale Chhango (or Devil’s Falls) is a mysterious hole in the ground in Pokhara’s southern extremity. Here the river flowing out of Lake Phewa is sucked into the deadly vortex of a dark cavern that plunges into the depths of the earth. Although the waterfall is open to visitors throughout the year, the best time to visit is during the monsoon season when the floodgate of the Fewa Lake barrage is opened to ease the water level. Gupteshwar Cave: South of the Pokhara valley there is a beautiful cave. The main part of the cave is some 20m down and the bottom is wide and spacious. Inside the cave, there is an image of Lord Shiv. This cave is a religious site for the Hindus. Many Hindu devotees visit the cave in different occasions. This cave is popular for the different natural forms made from limestone deposits. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the cave. Bindebasini Temple: The old Bazaar is also home to one of Pokhara’s most important shrines. Locally called the Vindyavasini Mandir, this white dome like structure dominates a spacious stone – paved courtyard built atop a shady hillock. It is the focus of religious activity in the old bazaar. It is dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati, yet another form of Shakti. The main deity of the temple, Goddess Durga, was bough from India. Lake Fewa: Lake Fewa is the largest and finest of seven lakes of Pokhara. It is 41/2km long and 200 m to 1 km width. One can enjoy water sports like swimming, boating, fishing, etc. in the lake. Eastern bank of the lake, which is popularly known as Lakeside, is the main tourist residence area in Pokhara. Hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, banks, etc. are conveniently located in and around Lakeside. Short Excursion from Pokhara Sarangkot: The most popular mountain destination in the area is Sarangkot, which is nestled high up on the north ridge of Phewa Tal. Apart from chilling out and taking in amazing views of both the mountains and Phewa Lake on the other side, Sarangkot offers a nice glimpse into the peaceful, slow village life and more. Most people come here at dawn, when the sun picks out the peaks, transforming them from a purple-pink to a celestial gold. It is also the popular location for paragliders to launch from in Pokhara. Chitwan National Park (Altitude: 932 Metres): Chitwan (which means heart of the jungle) lies in the southern belt of Nepal and is popular for its National reserves. It is about 170 km south west of Kathmandu. Chitwan National Park for a country known for its beautiful mountains provide a wholly different experience. A visit to Nepal remains incomplete without seeing the beauty of the Terai and Chitwan is the best place to do so. It is the oldest parks in Nepal and has diverse species of flora and fauna. Owing to its rich adornment of nature, Chitwan National Parks was declared UNESCO Natural Heritage Site in 1984. Approximately 70% of the park vegetation is sal forest. The remaining vegetation types include grassland (20%), riverine forest (7%), and sal with chirpine (3%). The grasslands form a diverse and complex community with over 50 species. The Saccharum species, often called elephant grass, can reach 8 m. in height. The shorter grasses such as Imperata are useful for thatch roofs. There are around 600 plant species, 56 mammals, 539 birds and 49 amphibians and reptiles found in the in the park. The swampy areas and numerous oxbow lakes of Chitwan provide a home for marsh crocodiles. In a stretch of the Narayani river is found one of the few remaining populations of the rare and endangered fish-only eating gharial, or Genetic crocodile. One of the last populations of single-horned Asiatic rhinoceros lives in the park, which is also one of the last refuges of the Bengal tiger. A rare attraction of the park is the world’s fresh-water dolphin sometimes seen in River Narayani. An elephant-back safari in the jungles of the Royal Chitwan National Park is a must for every visitor to Nepal. Other activities are Canoeing, Dugout canoe, Nature Walk and Bird Watching.

Day 03: Kathmandu – Chitwan

(Distance: 170 kms. Approx / Driving Time: 6 hrs.30 Mins) After breakfast transfer to Chitwan National Park, one of the oldest parks in Nepal. Chitwan means "heart of the jungle" and is a pure

retreat for the jungle lovers. It is famous for its rich flora, fauna and wildlife. On the way you have an option of going for River rafting or

visit the Manakamna Temple, the holy goddess of Aspirations or Devi of all wishes, by taking the cable car ride on direct payment basis.

The Cable Car covers around 2.8 kilometers stretch up to the temple in less than 10 minutes. On arrival in Chitwan National Park check in

at the hotel. Overnight stay at Chitwan National Park.

Day 04: Chitwan National Park Sightseeing

Early in the morning proceed for jungle safari on Elephant back penetrating through dense grasslands which are favorite habitat of

rhinoceros and other animals. Later breakfast, take the Dugout Canoe Ride along with Dungre / Rapti River to view marsh mugger and

gharial crocodiles. Post the canoe ride, visit elephant breeding farm & then drive back to the lodge/resort. In the late afternoon Village

Rest of the day free for leisure. Overnight stay at Kathmandu. Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing After breakfast visit Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most important pilgrimages sites for Hindu devotees all around the world and Boudhanath Stupa, the biggest stupa in the Valley and a World Heritage Site. Rest of the day free for personal activities like shopping at different super market & departmental stores, explore the tourist hub “ Thamel “ on your own. Overnight stay at Kathmandu. Day 03: Kathmandu Sightseeing After breakfast visit Swayambhunath Stupa, one of the most recognisable symbols in Nepal located on a small hillock offering fantastic view of Kathmandu city; Patan Durbar Square famous for its ancient architectures and finally Patan Tibetan Rufugee Centre which is located on the outskirts of Patan. Rest of the day free for leisure. Overnight stay at Kathmandu. Day 04: Kathmandu - Chitwan (Distance: 170 kms. Approx / Driving Time: 6 hrs.30 Mins) After breakfast, transfer to Chitwan National Park, one of the oldest parks in Nepal. Chitwan means "heart of the jungle" and is a pure retreat for the jungle lovers. It is famous for its rich flora, fauna and wildlife. On arrival check in at the hotel. Overnight stay at Chitwan National Park. Day 05: Chitwan Sightseeing Early in the morning proceed for jungle safari on Elephant back penetrating through dense grasslands which are favorite habitat of rhinocerous and other animals. Later breakfast, take the Dugout Canoe Ride along with Dungre / Rapti River to view marsh mugger and gharial crocodiles. Post the canoe ride, visit elephant breeding farm & then drive back to the lodge/resort. In the late afternoon Village walk will be organized in the nearby Tharu village. After the completion of the walk, you have the option of either driving back or walking back to the lodge/resort. In the evening enjoy “Tharu Tribal Dance” presented by the local Tharu villagers. Overnight stay at Chitwan National Park. Day 06: Chitwan – Pokhara (Distance: 205 kms. Approx / Driving Time: 6 hrs.30 Mins) After breakfast transfer to Pokhara, the most picturesque destinations of Nepal and the second largest tourist destination after Kathmandu. From here the world highest peaks like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Manaslu can be seen very close. The beauty of Pokhara with the mountains in the vicinity is enhanced by its lovely lakes. There are more than seven beautiful lakes which are linked by a trekking trail. Overnight stay at Pokhara. Day 07: Pokhara Sightseeing In the morning visit Sarangkot, the most popular mountain destination in the area nestled high up on the north ridge of Phewa Tal. It is the best place to view the sunrise. Many tourists come here to view the sunrise in early morning and then go back. It is about 45 to 60 minutes drive from Pokhara and a popular location for paragliders. Later in the day visit Bindebasini Temple, one of Pokhara’s most important shrine which is dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati; Devi’s fall also known as Patale Chango where water coming from Phewa lake vanishes into the earth; Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, a mysterious, 3-kilometre-long cavern that houses a sacred stalagmite and cow statue that is worshipped as a representation of the Hindu God Lord Shiva (Photography is strictly prohibited inside the cave); Seti Gorge, a deep gorge made by the turbulent flow of white water like milk of RIver Seti. In the evening you have an option of enjoying boat ride on Lake Phewa. Overnight stay at Pokhara Day 08: Pokhara – Nagarkot (Distance: 245 kms. Approx / Driving Time: 8 hrs.) After breakfast transfer to Kathmandu. Continue drive to Nagarkot. The panoramic view of the major peaks including Mt. Everest can be seen from here. This place is also famous for viewing sunrise and sunset. Overnight at Nagarkot. Day 09: Nagarkot – Airport (Distance: 26 kms. Approx / Driving Time: 1 hr.15mins)
