Expressions of Interest

2018 Formula SAE-Australasia Competition

6-9 December 2018, Winton Motor Raceway, Australia

Expressions of interest are now open for the 2018 Formula SAE-Australasia competition; the premier student design event in

the Australasian region. This year’s event will be held from 6 -9 December at Winton Motor Raceway, near Benalla in Victoria,

Australia. To qualify for the event, you must represent a University or TAFE college.

To register your team’s expression of interest, please use the online form (https://goo.gl/forms/IQh2IlCvP5ifpoQz2). By

registering you are not committing your team to making any payments or competing at the event. Final attendance is

confirmed by payment of your university’s registration fee by 6 July 2018 for Australian and New Zealand teams, and 3

August 2018 for international teams.

Competition Entry Fees and SAE-A Membership

The team entry fee is AU$3,800* per team. Additionally, teams are charged a registration fee for each student of AU$50, in lieu of membership, if paid by the due date (refer to Key Dates). The student registration fee can be paid by the university or privately by the student. This fee entitles each student to SAE-Australasia membership at the grade of “Student.” Late payment of the student registration fee will attract a penalty of AU$30 (total cost AU$80).

University staff and/or academics are also eligible to purchase 3 SAE-Australasia memberships at the grade of “Affiliate” for the discounted price of AU$150 each (total cost AU$450). The regular fee is AU$450 per membership. Teams can opt-out.

All fees are non-refundable, and exclude GST for teams located in Australia. Memberships are valid for 12 months from receipt of payment. Please note that your team’s entry will not be confirmed until all fees have been paid in full. The number of teams may be capped at the discretion of the organisers, with entry being determined on a first come first served basis.

Insurance

The Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) will be providing the event permit. CAMS regulations require all drivers to obtain

Level 2S CAMS licenses. Drivers are required to complete the license application/renewal form (available from

http://www.cams.com.au) and return it to SAE-A before October 26, 2018. All participants must obtain individual medical insurance

and sign a disclaimer. Individuals concerned about personal injury should arrange cover prior to the event.

Site Admission

The site will be accessible during the times outlined in the event schedule. Outside of these hours the site will be guarded by

security. All visitors are welcome to attend the event, but must wear closed-toe shoes. Alcohol, animals (including dogs), scooters

(motorised and non-motorised), skateboards, go-peds, bikes and drones are not permitted onsite.

Travel, Accommodation and Onsite Camping

Teams are responsible for organising their own travel and accommodation. This year, onsite camping will be available at a small additional cost through Winton Motor Raceway. More information will be provided prior to the event.

Workshops, Equipment and Vehicle Repairs

Teams are required to provide their own parts and equipment. However, an onsite workshop and welding booth will be available to

assist with vehicle repairs. A list of tools/equipment available in the workshop will be provided prior to the event. Participants will also

be able to access the Wangaratta TAFE workshop to complete major vehicle repairs. This facility is located approximately 30

minutes away from Winton Motor Raceway. All electrical equipment must be tested and tagged before coming onsite.

Pit Area

All teams will be provided with a 6m x 3.5m garage to use as their pit area. Each garage will be equipped with a single phase

230VAC (10amp, 50Hz) Australian power outlet.

Fuel and Electric Vehicle Recharging

Vehicles in the internal combustion engine (ICE) class will be provided with either RON 98 or E85 fuel. Electric vehicles (EVs) will be

provided with onsite charging stations. For recharging, teams in the EV class must use an AS3123 compatible 32 amp, 5 pin

connector. Chargers must be Class 1 devices.

*Post-Competition Driver Swap and Vehicle Practice Day

The event organisers are examining the feasibility of hosting an additional day of track testing at Winton Motor Raceway

immediately following the competition (Monday 10th December) and all teams will be advised of the final decision prior to registration

fees being due. This non-competitive day can be used for vehicle testing and/or interchanging drivers between teams ("Driver

Swap"). Please indicate your preference for participating in the Monday track testing day when completing the Expressions of

Interest web form. The cost of participating in the Monday track testing day (circuit hire, insurance, etc.) is estimated at $300 - $400

per team, and will be added to the entry fee should the Monday event proceed (total AU$4,100 - AU$4,200).
