Judges

Jennifer Lumpkins studied as a Ballet Major at the University of North Texas

under the instruction of Dr. Sandi Combest and James Clouser in the areas of

Vagonova Ballet and Horton Modern with special emphasis on Kinesiology and

Choreography. She has served as lead instructor for Dominion Equippers Christian

School’s middle school and high school dance departments where she was

passionately involved as a teacher, choreographer and artist. Jennifer has also

worked as Assistant Director for The Berry Groupe, a Fine Arts Education

Company working in the Texas Public School System to empower individuals to live

up to their God-given potential, as well as Ballet Director for Destiny Christian

Academy where she received Teacher of the Year in 2010, and was Owner and Director of the award

winning performing arts facility, The Dance Gallery, in Fort Worth, Texas for over 10 years.

Meleka Simon is a native of Chicago, IL and currently resides in Dallas, TX. She

has been a dance educator for 22 years. She has studied the dance styles of ballet,

tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, modern, musical theater, and praise dance.

She's a graduate of the University of North Texas where she earned a BA in

Psychology and Child Development. After college, she joined Dallas Dance Company

where she danced and choreographed for 5 seasons. Meleka has had the privilege

to train under some of the industry’s top professionals. She has won numerous

scholarships which gave her the opportunity to train in Vegas with Thunderstruck, in LA at the Edge

Performing Arts Center, and in New York at Broadway Dance Center and Steps.. While teaching and

training dancers all over North America she has won numerous choreography awards. Meleka is

currently the owner of Destiny Devoted Dance. In addition to owning her studio, she travels the US as

a choreographer and judge.

Michael Mayes is originally from Dallas, TX He began his professional career in

1988. He has performed and choreographed professionally for Alonzo King’s Lines

Ballet Company/AKLDC, Texas Ballet Theater, Contemporary Ballet Dallas,

Company Mayes, Ballet Dallas, Dallas Metropolitan Ballet, Collin County Ballet

Theatre, BCSA School of the Arts, Texas Youth Ballet Conservatory and Ballet

Metrocrest. He has trained under the direction of Alonzo King, Ben Stevenson,

Soili Arvola & Leo Ahonen, Thom Clower, Norma Shields, Ben Houke, Joyce

Seaborne Bader and Kirt Hathaway. His credits include principal spots in Swan

Lake, The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Snow Queen, Giselle, La Bayadere,

Dracula and many others. Michael received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Journalism at the

University of North Texas. He has made acting appearances in feature films such as Dakota, Born on

the 4th of July. He has also choreographed and danced for television and commercial work. Michael

also travels nationally teaching, choreographing and judging for several top competition circuits. His

artistic ability has resulted in award winning performances and professional productions nationally.
