• An ordinary automatic room power control circuit has

only one light sensor. so when an object enters the room .it gets one pulse and the light comes ‘ON’

• When the object exits it gets another pulse and the light goes ‘OFF’. But what happens when two objects enters simultaneously into the room one after the other? It gets two pulses and lights remain in the ‘OFF’ state.

• The circuit described here overcomes the above mentioned problem. It has a small memory which enables it to automatically switch ‘OFF’ the lights in a desired fashion.

• Outputs of the two LDR sensors, after processing are used in conjunction with a bicolor LED in such a fashion that when an object gets into the room it emits green light and when an object goes out of the room it emits red light and vice versa .These outputs are simultaneously applied to two counters.

• One of the counters will count as +1,+2,+3 etc. When the objects are entering into the room and the other will count as -1,-2,-3 etc. when the objects are leaving the room . These counters make use of JOHNSON DECADE COUNTER CD4017 IC

• The next stage comprises two logic ICS which can combine the outputs of the two counters and determine ,if there is any object still left in the room or not

• Since in the circuit LDRs have been used ,care should be taken to protect them from ambient light.. If desired, one may use readily available IR sensor modules to replace the LDRs.

• The sensors are installed in such a way that when an object enters or exits the room, it intercepts the light falling on it sequentially one after the other.

Objective of the projectWe know the Demand of electricity in our

country. In order to save electricity this AUTOMATIC ROOM POWER CONTROL helps to an extent.

The main motto of this project is to count the number of persons entering and leaving the room.

And also when an object(may be a person) leaves the room the red LED blinks and the power will be automatically swithced ‘OFF’. Hence the power is saved.

NE555 IC APPLICATIONS:

It is a timer IC and can be used for triggering applications. It can also be used as a square wave generator.

However, the 555 timer application can be broadly classified into two types; astable multivibrator and monostable multivibrator.

Before we start off with the applications of this IC, let us try to understand its pin configuration. The IC 555 is available in the form of an 8 pins DIP.

The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit (chip) used in a variety of timer, pulse generation and oscillator applications

DECAD COUNTER CD4017:This diagram can be used to

get a 24 output counter, with three 4017 IC.

The 4017 is an extremely useful device for project work and is used in theGame timer and in variousDOCTRONICS construction kits including the Light chaser  and the Matrix die.
