Weekly Worship

This term we are looking at perseverance and how God can help us when we feel like giving up. In Key Stage 1 we have looked at the story of Noah’s Ark and thought about how he had a persevered even when others told him to stop. In Key Stage 2 we have thought about what the word perseverance means and each thought of something we wanted to persevere with.

I can do all things through Him who strengths me—Philippians 4:13

Value— Compassion

What an exciting week it has been with lots of educational visits and a special visitor to our school too.

On Wednesday and Thursday our children in Year 3 & 4 went to Canterbury to visit

the Roman Museum and the Beaney Museum. The trip gave the children a super

opportunity to learn more about life in the Roman times and gain first hand experi-

ence of designing and making their very own mosaic. What a fantastic way to start

their Roman topic this term. Thank you to Mr Caple and the team for organising this

visit.

On Thursday we had our SIAMS inspection. The inspector spent time talking to staff, children

and parents gaining in understanding of the ways in which we live out our school vision and

values alongside the Bible verse and the story of the Good Samaritan. It was wonderful to

share how our church distinctiveness is at the heart of all we do at Reculver School. It was an

extremely positive and fair process and we hope to be able to share the outcome with

everyone in 2—3 weeks time.

Mrs Ashley-Jones, Mrs Collins and Miss Madge were delighted to take the Ethos Team on a very

special visit to St Luke’s School in Tower Hamlets on Friday. It was perfect timing for us, straight

after our SIAMS inspection, and we all had a wonderful day looking at the similarities and differences between

our schools and in particular the Bible stories and vision and values that make our school such a special place.

Next week the school will be holding the NSPCC sponsored event so make sure your child/children practises their

’keepy uppies’ over the weekend.

Our “Word of the Week” this week is convenience.

To develop our understanding we looked at word maps of all of its meanings.

Here are some words phrases and sentences to explore its many meanings:

Science Club—Let’s Play With Stopwatches!

We timed and tested ourselves in Science Club this week by finding out how many times we could do

certain things in 30 seconds. Harry turned out to be an amazing hopper with an incredible 88 hops in

only 30 seconds! Once we had the hang of timing things, we used the stopwatches to find out how fast

things fall. Then we decided we wanted to slow some of them down … but how? PARACHUTES! The

winning team created a parachute that slowed their object down by nearly a full second—well done!
