AUGUST MISSION Millsaps College (Wesley Foundation/Cookie Bake)
Millsaps has hired its first ever full time Wesley Founda-tion Director. We hope to have the new director visit our worship service soon to update us on this new beginning. St. Luke’s looks forward to supporting the foundation financially, and we’ll continue our tradition of hosting Wesley lunches on campus. More details to come.
Cookie Bakers’ Alert! Get your recipes and baking sheets ready! This is the 8th year St. Luke’s UMW Circle 2 will sponsor our out-
reach mission to welcome Millsaps 1st year students to their new “home away from home” with homemade cookies. We’ll need over 1,000 cookies! Watch for sign up opportunities, packaging information and delivery dates.
TODAY, THURS., AUGUST 3
5:00-8:00 P.M.
Focus on Duling Avenue This month’s event focuses on Duling Avenue, giving us an ex-cellent opportunity to highlight St. Luke’s commitment to our community and our connection to its people. Dedicated church volunteers will greet and welcome visitors with lemonade and bottled water in front of the sanctuary, and monitor the Bouncy House set up on the front lawn to entertain children. You’re in-vited to come on out, join the fun and help share St. Luke’s Christian welcome and fellowship with our neighbors.
THRIFT SHOP OPEN & FURNITURE SALE IN REC. BLDG.
9:00 A.M-1:00 P.M., THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 5
You can still donate furniture and volunteer to help. This is the first ever Thrift Shop furniture sale! It will be in the Rec. Bldg. this Sat., Aug. 5th, the same hours of Thrift Shop opera-tion,9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. We need a few vol-unteers to help set up on Friday afternoon and to work the sale Saturday. Remember, if you have furniture to do-nate, please bring it to the church before the 4th. This ministry blesses many people in the community, not only with the dona-tions you bring but the monetary proceeds are distributed to organizations helping the less fortunate. Dear Friends,
This Sunday, August 6, we will celebrate our children and
youth as we observe Promotion Sunday. We will pray for
them, recognize those moving into a new Sunday School
class, and reestablish the tradition of giving Bibles to our
3rd/4th graders. It will be a special moment that you will want
to be a part of.
Also, this Sunday, we are beginning a new sermon series on
what we believe to be four touchstones of our life together as
Christians. We find our identity in Christ in a book, through a
bath, at a table, and with time.
Aug. 6: A Book: The role of the Bible, Rev. Dr. Ricky James
Aug. 13: A Bath: The significance of Baptism, Rev. Dr.
Ricky James
Aug 20: A Table: The centrality of Communion, Rev. Dr.
Terry Hilliard
Aug. 27: A Time: The keeping of Sacred Time, Rev. Dr.
Ricky James
Come learn what we mean in the month of August.
Grace and Peace,
Ricky

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAMS I attended an ERT training last Saturday. Since Hurricane Katrina, I have known just how important emergency response teams are. St. Luke’s has an emergency response team, and we pray you will consider joining us. You don’t have to be a car-penter, have tons of strength, or commit to going when we are called every time. All you need is a willing heart to go where God calls you and the desire to be hope in the midst of some of
the most difficult moments in someone’s life. As God whispers in
your heart to go, give Willie Morris or me a call and we will get
you signed up for training. Peace, Terry
