Dear Parents, Students and Community Members, Welcome to the new school year! I hope you had a wonderful summer. The challenges of the previous school year demonstrate that our students, teachers, parents, and staff have a persevering spirit to succeed. I am proud of the work we did together to ensure that our students learned and made academic progress. I am looking forward to the excellent work that we will do during this new school year. In the 2021-2022 school year, we will dream bigger with a greater vision for our students and commit to excellence. Our students, our Stars, will master their learning goals and exceed all expectations. The Millennium family will provide a supportive and safe learning environment and pursue excellence in everything we do for our students every day. Our 2021-2022 school year theme is "Up, Up, and Away – Successful Learning Every Day". I look forward to seeing you at our first School Advisory Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 15, 2021, at 6:00 pm in the Media Center. Notices and Reminders
The drop off location is in the front of the building. No students should be dropped off in the bus loop for safety reasons.
Upon entering the campus, you must go directly to the Front Office (Single Point of Entry), sign in and get a visitor pass. Visitors’ passes are only valid for one day. With so many people entering and exiting campus, it creates an unsafe environment and prohibits the faculty and staff from carrying out the responsibility of making sure that all children entering the Millennium campus are safe and secure.
Also, if you have a concern about your child, please call the office to make an appointment. The staff at Millennium is dedicated to making sure that your children have an effective school atmosphere. That cannot be carried out if there are several unscheduled visits. An appointment also assures that your needs concerning your child can be discussed and taken care of without any interruptions.
Dismissal is the most hectic part of the day. A request for early dismissal of your child must be made prior to 4:00 PM. After that time, we will be unable to call your child to the office.
Lastly, please be advised that there is no supervision for your child before 9:00 AM, unless he or she is registered in the Before Care
Program, and after 5:00 PM. All transportation arrangements for your
child should be made ahead of time. We do understand that emergencies do arise and will do our best to accommodate your needs. We are also asking that you do not call the school asking that messages be delivered to your child during class time. To ensure that communication is accurate please make sure that your child is aware of things before he or she leaves home in the morning.
These guidelines and procedures are not established to inconvenience anyone or to make you feel unwelcome at Millennium. They are simply necessary for the safety and wellbeing of every child entrusted in our care. Your understanding, cooperation, and assistance are greatly appreciated.
*Attendance Policy Revision*
The addition of "Emergency School Closures" for attendance has been added to Policy 5.5. A collaborative School Board amendment revised paragraph 2 under "Recording student attendance during distance learning." This is a substantial
change that requires students to use their cameras for attendance and instruction. The amended language is below.
During E-Learning, attendance and instruction, the use of student cameras is required. Students will be counted in attendance in the learning environment
during their scheduled class time. Teachers should be flexible and consider extenuating circumstances of individual students who may be unable to turn on a camera and may consider other evidence of attendance in these individual cases.
Early Release Dates – 2021-2022
On Early Release Days, students will be dismissed at 2:30PM. Please adhere to the following Early Release dates: October 19, January 10, February 14, March 17, April 14, and June 9. Buses will take regular riders home and parents must make arrangements for transportation of students who are picked up by car.
Professional Study Days Dates – 2021-2022
Students will be dismissed at 1:30PM on the following dates: Sept. 2, Oct. 7, Nov. 4, Dec. 2, January 6, Feb. 3, March 3, and April 7. Buses will take regular riders home and parents must make arrangements for transportation of students who are picked up by car.

School Advisory Council
The purpose of the School Advisory Council (SAC) is to research the needs of the school, create a plan to improve performance, and then monitor the implementation of this plan.
Our School Advisory Council will meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 6pm in the media center. The Principal Chat will be held at 5:30pm.
If you would like to be member of the council, please contact us at (754) 322- 3900 and inform us of your interest.
You are invited and encouraged to attend any of our meetings that fit your schedule.
Code of Conduct
The district’s Code of Conduct book can be found on our district website. Please review the rules and polies with your students. If you have any questions, please speak with your grade level administrator.
The Code of Conduct contains School
Board Policy regarding behavior. Review the agenda and the online Code of Conduct book with your child and complete all ONLINE FORMS at
www.browardschools.com/bts.These forms are required to ensure that your student’s file is up-to-date including Emergency Contact.
Schedules
Every effort was made to accommodate the educational needs of our students.
Additionally, all efforts to honor our students’ requests for electives was made. Schedule changes will only be considered for legitimate medical and/or academic reasons. In the event that you would like to request a schedule change for one of the aforementioned reasons, you must contact your grade level school counselor no later than August 27, 2021.
Special Health Concerns
Any students who may need to receive ANY medication on school property during school hours, must have on file in the front office a medication authorization form. The parent and doctor must complete this form this school year for students who are taking medication at school. Doctor’s instructions for the administration of the medication must be specific as to the times and dosage amount. All medications must be in the original container and clearly labeled. No student is to carry any medicine, including aspirin, Tylenol, etc. on
campus. Only front office staff is allowed to distribute medicine.

Important Information for Our STAR Parents and Students
Our School Day with STAR Time All (middle school & high school) students at Millennium will participate in SEL STAR time for the first five minutes of each period. This time will be used to help guide students, giving them a more personalized middle school experience. During this time, teachers will assist students in organizational skills, checking their grades, determining what help they may need to be successful, and giving them the tools they need to distress, in a healthy way, throughout the day.
Open House Our high school Open House is scheduled for Monday, August, 16, 2021 from 5:30PM – 7:45PM. Our high school parents will have the opportunity to visit with our administration, staff, and high school faculty to discuss and review course expectations, MCA’s offerings to our high school students, and what makes our school so special. Looking forward to visiting with all high school guests.
Our middle school Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 6:00PM - 8:00PM). This is a very important evening that gives parents the opportunity to meet their student’s teachers and other Millennium staff. Please plan to attend. Middle school parents will be able to spend time with their student’s teachers to hear expectations and plans for the year. Safe Zone Listeners Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy offers safe places for our students where they can talk to adults about their concerns. At Millennium, we want students to be comfortable and safe in their learning environment. Students are encouraged to talk to our Safe Zone Listeners so to remain aware of their surroundings, be active in school activities, focus on curricula, and build relationships with school personnel. Our motto is “See Something, Say Something”. Safe Zone Listeners include Campus Security Manager Carter, Security Specialist Madry, Principal Baugh, Ms. Edun, Mrs. Gayle, Dr. Satty, School Counselors- Ms. Gaver, Ms. Ledgister, Ms. Wright, and Ms. Baez, Ms. Bagwell, Ms. Schorr, Mrs. G. Robinson, and Mr. Stillman. Cafeteria Procedures All students on free/reduced lunch in the 2020-2021 school year must re-apply for the 2021-2022 school year. 2021-2022 free/reduced lunch recipients will only receive free or reduced lunch for the first ten days of school. New students should bring lunch money until they receive a lunch number. There will be no charges in the cafeteria. The cost of a regular lunch is $ 2.35 and reduced lunch is $ .40. Breakfast continues to be FREE for all students. Lastly, if your child brings a lunch to school, remember no cans or glass bottles are allowed in the cafeteria. To renew your child’s free and reduced lunch status, you must fill out the forms online. DEADLINE TO RE-APPLY IS OCTOBER 1, 2021. Please know that we will continue to have free breakfast for all students on a daily basis, regardless of free and reduced lunch status.

**Regular Bell Schedule**
Students will follow their regular bell schedule. All student schedules based on lunches, along with specific instructions, will be posted in classrooms and on every

the school year and will continue to follow their
regular schedule.

Important Meals Information for Our STAR Parents and Students
UNIVERSAL FREE BREAKFAST FOR THE 2021/2022 SCHOOL YEAR UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE SEAMLESS SUMMER OPTION WAIVER FOR THE 2021/2022
SCHOOL YEAR
The Food and Nutrition Services Department is pleased to announce Universal Free Breakfast will continue to be available for the 2021/2022 School Year. All students, regardless of eligibility status, will have the opportunity to participate in the Universal Free Breakfast meal program at no charge. The price for an adult breakfast meal will remain $1.80.
In addition, the District will be utilizing the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Seamless Summer Option (SSO) Waiver, resulting from the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. The waiver provides students the opportunity for free lunch meals during the 2021/2022 School Year. All students, regardless of eligibility status, will have the opportunity to participate in the USDA SSO Meal Program at no charge. The price for an Adult Lunch Meal will remain $2.75.

How to Survive the First Year of Middle School
Everyone feels nervous and excited about starting school. As a Secondary school student, you'll be treated like a more responsible person. Your classes will be more intense and teachers may be stricter; the following tips will help you thrive.
Be on time. Get up around an hour before school starts and do your normal routine. Eat a good breakfast and make sure you have a lunch, if needed. You never want to go hungry during school so always carry back-up lunch money to buy a meal if you ever forget your lunch at home. Try to leave home a half-hour before school starts so that you can be sure not to be late.
Treat teachers and fellow classmates respectfully. Raise your hand if you have a question and don't call out answers without being asked for them. Don't be the "Class Clown" who creates disturbances for others; no one wants to be around a trouble maker. Smile and keep quiet while others are speaking, and behave well in front of your teachers and other students. Remember, teachers may lower your grade if you misbehave, or deny you the opportunity to go on fieldtrips.
Be prepared. Have all your pens, paper, books, etc., packed the night before your first day. Teachers appreciate it when you have your supplies with you at all times.
Try your best. Everyone recognizes those who try hard. You will be rewarded for the effort by building up your knowledge. Seek help if you have areas of study that you find too difficult; other classmates, a tutor, or your parents may be possible sources of help.
Ask a teacher questions. If you're nervous about asking your teachers questions in class, ask another teacher. Any teacher in the school will be happy to help you with a problem, or point you to someone who can. Make sure you understand the content of what the teacher is teaching you before you walk away and don't forget to thank them.
Make sure your binders are organized to keep from losing important papers. It makes your day easier if you know where everything is. Binders with separators, and even folders, are a big help for this process. Staying organized in middle school will help you throughout life, in the workplace and in your home.
Do your homework! It'll save you a lot of trouble in middle school. It will also help you get you better grades and stay on the teacher's good side. Be genuine, confident and friendly. The more comfortable you make others feel in your presence, the more comfortable you will feel in middle school and beyond. Broaden your friend-base to include as many people as possible, and don't give off the impression that you feel you are too good for anyone.

FortifyFL App We are pleased to announce that the FortifyFL app is LIVE. Now, any student, educator, parent, or member of the public can report school safety concerns directly to law enforcement and school administrators anonymously and easily through the FortifyFL app or www.getfortifyfl.com. The app, which is available for download on Apple and Android mobile devices, is critical to ensuring all Florida schools are safe environments where students and educators can experience and share the joy of learning without fear. We hope that you will become familiar with this tool and help us spread the word about it with our students and their families. Students who wear sweat pants with stripes, designs or colors other than what is listed above, will receive a uniform violation. For days when we are experiencing cold weather and the temperature is below 60 degrees, BLACK or KHAKI jeans ONLY can be worn. NO BLUE JEANS.
School Spirit Shirts: Students may wear school spirit shirts on Fridays only.
