Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: “I was present with the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him on Eid Ul Adha at the place of prayer when the Prophet SAW finished his sermon,came down from the pulpit and a ram was brought to him.The Prophet peace and blessings be upon him slaughtered it with his own

hand, saying, “In the name of Allah and Allah is the greatest.This is from me and those of my nation who cannot offer a sacrifice.”

Al-Tirmidhi said, “This was acted upon by the people of knowledge and the companions of the Prophet SAW and others, that a man should say at the time of slaughtering: In the name of Allah and Allah is the greatest.It is the opinion

of Ibn Al-Mubarak.”

It is neither their blood nor their flesh that reaches Allah swt, but what does reach Him is the taqwa (the sense of obedience) on your part. Thus He has made them (the animals) subjugated to you, so that you proclaim Allah’s glory for the guidance He gave you. And

• The Mason is installing Limestone on the exterior walls.• Window Contractor is Installing Windows.• After Eid we will be working to install Windows in the existing north wall. To cut the openings

we will be installing 3 temporary Columns inside the Masjid area .

• We completed the west wall of the existing Building and Installed the Sidewalk.• New Building interior walls are being built now and scheduled to be completed by the end of

August.• Wall Electrical wiring to start in September.• Plumber already started doing wall plumbing in all new bathrooms.

UPDATE FROM IAGD BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The IAGD Board of Director is very pleased to inform the community that a new IAGD Charitable Foundation has been established and registered with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as 501 c3 charitable organization. The Foundation has been set up under the laws of the State of Michigan for the exclusive benefit of IAGD. Whereas cash donations can continue to be made to IAGD directly as usual, any non-cash donations (stocks, real-estate property, portions of inheritance as Sadaqa-i-Jariah, etc.) can now be made to the Foundation. Before this, there was no mechanism for IAGD to receive non-cash donations. Any donations of any kind to the IAGD Charitable Foundation will be tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. The Foundation is currently working on developing its website and will be providing more details to the community soon.

IAGD CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

The IAGD Charitable Foundation Board consists of nine members.All five current members of the IAGD Board of Trustees will serve on IAGD Charitable Foundation Board as members.

The following four people were elected by the IAGD Board of Directors to serve on the Foundation Board as members for the term set forth below:• Mr. Osman Basha – 1-year term (2020)• Dr. Sabiha Omar – 2-years term (2020-2021)• Mr. Anis Ahmed – 3-years term (2020-2022)• Dr. Ghaus Malik – 4-years term (2020-2023)

The IAGD Charitable Foundation Board elected three of its members to serve as officers of the Foundation for the calendar year 2020 as required by law. They are as follows:

COMMITTEES REPORT

RAMADAN FRIENDSHIP DINNER: MAY 10, 2019

This year, the interfaith committee of IAGD hosted their annual Ramadan friendship iftar on May 10. The committee’s agenda was to focus on bringing people together to stand with each other to eradicate hate and spread love and peace. We reminded everyone that no matter what religion they belong to, hate should not be tolerated. Alhamdulillah, we were very fortunate that this year we had a turnout of over 250 people. During the social hour, the guests mingled with each other, had some snacks, dressed up in Muslim attire, had their names written in Chinese and Arabic, and made bookmarks. As always, our mehndi station was very popular among our guests. We always provide our guests with free information on Islam. Our guests included Representative Padma Kuppa, a representative for Elisa Slotkin, Imam Saleem Khalid, the Troy Area Interfaith group, our neighbors from the Gurdwara, GRAIN, and many others.

The formal program started with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha. After the opening remarks, the audience was shown a short film called American Muslims: Fact vs Fiction. Imam Lela then gave a short talk on Ramadan; this was followed by a Ramadan presentation given by the youth. The guest speakers then said a few words and it was then followed by a question and answer session. During Iftar, the guests observed the breaking of the fast and most of them observed

the Maghrib prayer. When we came back, dinner was served with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. During the dinner, our guests socialized with the volunteers and community members. The event ended by 10:30pm. As the guests left, they were given a token of friendship in the form of chocolate and a pamphlet on Islam. The committee would like to thank all of the volunteers who donated food and time to help make this event successful. May Allah (SWT) grant them barakah in their lives and in their families’. There have been a lot of prevalent issues making themselves known around the world; however, it’s the issues that are in our very own community that need to take precedence. Among these issues is something that affects a variety of families in their homes—domestic abuse. The scary thing about this particular issue is that it frequents households in many ways, and in our society today. Many forms of abuse aren’t even classified as such, making this a dangerous problem, as without the acknowledgement of an issue, moving towards a solution becomes difficult.

Types of domestic abuse can vary from physical and sexual abuse, to emotional abuse. Although two out of these three types are more contact-based, emotional abuse is also a very dangerous situation that we need to talk to families about. We need to make them aware how to maneuver, and if necessary, escape the situation. According to the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, the elements of domestic abuse include intimidation, humiliation, and/or physical injury.
