According to the National Retail Federation, Americans spent $8.4 billion on Halloween in 2016. It is estimated that 117 million Americans will spend nearly $83 million per person in 2017. Halloween is the third most expensive holiday, following Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Use the following tips for a more budget friendly Halloween experience.

COSTUMES

Consider re-using or re-purposing old costumes. If you (or the kids) insist on new costumes, take last year’s costumes to a consignment shop or sell them online to offset the cost of the new ones.

Swap costumes with friends so that you can have something new with-out spending money.

Get crafty and make your own! You can find lots of ideas online for fun and inexpensive do-it-yourself Halloween costumes.

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS

Circle of Friends Homemakers will meet on October 2nd at 11 AM at the Allen United Methodist Church. They will be making the duct tape key chains. Beth will be providing rings. Duct tape will be limited so please bring your own if you’d like a specific design. Bring a friend to join the fun!

BUSY BEES

Busy Bees Homemakers will meet on October 4th at 1 PM at the Floyd County

Extension Office. They will be presenting the lessons some of the lessons presented at the Healthy Homemaker Series in Ashland. Bring a friend and join the fun.

ENDICOTT HOMEMAKERS

The Endicott Homemakers will meet on October 29th at 11 AM at the Cow Creek Fire Department. They will be making Thanksgiving hats and mason jar centerpieces. Bring a friend and enjoy the fun!

NIMBLE THIMBLE QUILT GUILD

The Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild will be meeting on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of October at 10:00 AM at the Floyd County Extension Office. They will be taking $2.00 donations for a beautiful hand made quilt that will be given away in March of 2018. For more information please contact Nan Tournier, President, at 874–5665 or any Nimble Thimble Quilt Guild member. They will also be having an Educational Tour on September 27th instead of their regular meeting. Everyone is welcome to

come and check out their activities. Bring a friend and enjoy the fun!

WOOLY WEDNESDAYS

Wooly Wednesday will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the October at 10 AM at the Floyd County Extension Office. They will be working on finishing various projects they have been working on. Bring a friend and enjoy the fun!

TWISTED STITCHERS

Twisted Stitchers will meet on the second and fourth Monday of October at the Floyd County Extension

Office at 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. They will continue working on the knitted dish towel and personal projects. Bring a friend and come join the fun!

I.Q. -”I QUILT”

The I.Q. quilt club met for the first time in August. This group is for all on any quilting level. From beginners to advanced. They will be meeting The third Tuesday and fourth Thursday at 5:30 PM at the Extension Office. For more information about this club, contact the Extension Office at (606) 886-2668. Bring a friend and come join the fun!

Homemaker Dues are due to Cathy Goble by November 17, 2017. Contact Cathy or Andrea Johnson at the Extension Office for any questions or concerns.

The Floyd County Extension Office has the opportunity to set up at the Jenny Wiley Festival. All Homemakers and specialty clubs have the opportunity to set up to display what you do. Please contact the office ASAP if you are interested in setting up!!
