PROTOCOL FOR REQUESTING THE RBL

COUNTY STANDARD TO BE IN

ATTENDANCE AT EVENTS

Enclosed with this newsletter is the

agreed protocol to be followed when

you would like the County Standard to

be present at an event. To some it may

seem rather “over the top” but

insurance is a serious matter these days

and failure to adhere to the guidelines

can render the insurance invalid in the

event of a claim. If you have any

queries regarding the document please

do not hesitate to contact the County

Parade Marshal.

Actions Taken on Motions carried at

National Conference 2014

Please see the attached booklet

which gives the responses by the

Board of Trustees to the Charter

Motions and Motions carried at

Annual Conference 2014.

The booklet also contains, at pages

11 and 12, the response by the Privy

Council to Charter Motion 4 carried

at Annual conference 2013.

Fit to Parade?

Please ensure that your standard bearers are

familiar with the current Ceremonial Handbook

and in particular note the following sections:

Chapter 5 paragraph 3.2. A Standard Bearer is

only covered by personal accident cover and

public liability cover up the age of 85.

Chapter 6 paragraph 1.2. If a Standard Bearer

is deemed unfit to carry a Standard by a Parade

Marshal then he/she should be stood down from

that position.

POPPY APPEAL – Isle of Wight total to date

This is up on the amount raised last year with two months still to go until the close of this year’s appeal.

Clare said “This is a fabulous effort from all the wonderful volunteers who work so hard to achieve this.

Thank you everyone.”

ARMED FORCES DAY FLAG RAISING CEREMONY RYDE

(Report received from Terry Clarkson)

On Monday 23rd June 2014 at 2:00pm Ryde held a flag raising

ceremony to mark Armed Forces Day. This took place at the

flagstaff in the gardens next to Ryde Pavilion. The event was

attended by Cllr Charles Chapman Vice- Chairman of IW Council

and Cllr Roi Milburn the Mayor of Ryde. With representatives

from Ryde Town Council, Ryde branch of the RBL and the RBL

Riders branch present.

Also on parade were Standards from the Ryde, Newport &

Carisbrooke, Seaview & Nettlestone and Bembridge RBL

Branches together with Standards from the R.A.F. Association

and the Royal Hampshire Old Comrades Association.

The exhortation and Kohima were read by Mr Ivor Millard,

Chairman of the Armed Forces Day (IoW) committee, and the

prayers were led by Rev Marie Attwood.

---- oOo -------- oOo -------- oOo ----

On Sunday 13th July Rev Marie Attwood held her last

service as Minister of Ryde Methodist Church before

moving to her new appointment in Frome. Marie has

been the Ryde Branch Chaplain for 4 years. As a mark of

respect for her service both to the Branch and Armed

Forces Day, Standard Bearers from Ryde, Seaview &

Nettlestone, and Bembridge RBL Branches, together with

the RAF Association and Royal Hampshire Old Comrades

Association escorted Marie to the front of the church.

Happy Birthday Sylvia!!

Congratulations to Sylvia Williams, County Chairman IW RBL

Women’s Section, on her ‘milestone’ birthday.

I wouldn’t dream of mentioning a lady’s age (but look for the

clue in the photo!!!)

We will remember them ……

Mr T Palin, Shanklin

Mr W D Thomas, Seaview & Nettlestone

Ron Bradley, Newport & Carisbrooke

Frank Barton, Newport & Carisbrooke

Our sincere condolences to the families

and friends of these members.

Friday, 25th July saw the first of the two

annual friendly darts matches between

Ventnor RBL and Shanklin RBL held at

the Ventnor club.

The games, as always, were played in

good spirit and a fair result of 11 games

all was the outcome.

The second game will be played at

Shanklin club on Friday, 8th August,

which we anticipate will be another

good night.

All are welcome to come along and

support the teams. Games start at 8pm
